good till it goes wrong. Once out of warranty, microsoft tell you to jog on. Sister had dead pixels on her either 7 or 8 idk, waited to come back from uni. too late warranty ended november. she came back december. tough.

6 months later her charger gave up and died, and then mine died too. great. mine is still in warranty i send it back every so often for the dead pixels and it "extends" the warranty a bit longer. Although you get just 90 days on the refurb they send you, but usually it has a year on the device serial number.

On my 5th or maybe 6th surface pro 5, but now need a new charger, or buy a surface dock perhaps.

other sister never bothered, 2 1/2 years or so later touch screen went dodgy, turned it off tried it a few months later and it was ok. but to say its unreliable is one word for it.

also xbox gift cards work on the microsoft store up to £800 or so that could be a good discount to keep in mind. (edited)

That's the nature of warranties sadly, they come to an end.

May I please ask the reasons why you have had so many Surface Pro devices? I'm always interested in how people use them, especially those who are long-time buyers. Thank you.

Dead pixels. Everytime I got it I would just exchange it. Each refurbished usually ended up having a 1 year warranty, so that kept it going but usually 6 months or so you ended up with dead pixels.

Not sure why I kept getting it. But sister has it on the surface 7 or 8 (idk which she has) and other sister got it on the 5.

Nothing major just a few spots. But it's a good way to get an extension on the warranty and a refurb device.

Mum's surface 5 or example battery went from 10 mins to 5 to nothing. Won't work unless you plug it in.

Keyboard went as well just stopped working. So that's another £100 and charger just went but its been 4/5 years or but still its not a great look.

Just make sure to exchange it if you get it. (edited)

I had only just decided today that after 9 years with my now sluggish Surface Pro 3, it was time for a new laptop.. what a day to make the decision! I just bought the i7 16GB 256GB model of this for £1044

Great price but remember you’ll need to add a keyboard, this is just the tablet.

I’ve got the SP4 with a keyboard. Fat lot of use that is!!!

Students get an extra 10% off if bought direct from MS Store (same deals going on over there atm).

Interesting. I'm having trouble selecting the "from 749" device on the Microsoft site. Do you have a link?

    Nope. This is a surface.
The Fire is the cheaper Amazon one.

Thank you! This is perfect timing - time for a nice upgrade!

That said surface pro 9 is supposedly a lot more repairable. But idk how much if an issue dead pixels are still. Sisters is 1 or 2 models old at this point too.

    Genuine question.
Is 8 GB RAM and 256 SSD really enough for Windows?
Seems like you'll be paying good money (once you add the keyboard etc) for a pretty basic spec.

    The short answer is yes.
