don't forget to add the case as well, says £3 but knocks the £3 off at checkout as well as the £10, so free case.

    Said no one ever.
Handheld gaming on the 3DS is better in every way (except portability)

The 2ds can't play some games is that right? Like smash bros?

It can definitely play smash bros. Mine does quite happily! Just no 3d! That said I'm still considering an xl, just for the extra screen size.

There's a few N3DS(New 3DS) exclusives that you can't play e.g. Xenoblade Chronicles 3D and SNES Virtual Console. Otherwise 3DS games are all compatible.

I've owned both and my favourite is the normal sized 'new' 3DS. IMO it is far superior to the 2DS.

The screens on 3DS have better image quality.
3DS has stereo sound without headphones
The D-pad feels more precise on 3DS
3D creates depth of field and more immersive
Some games not as good in 2D like Mario 3ds
The clamshell on 3DS protects screens.
3DS smaller and fits easier in pockets
3DS runs newer games better like Hyrule War.
New 3DS runs Xenoblade not on 2DS
New 3DS has second analogue stick

IMO it's worth paying more and getting a new 3DS. It really is a good machine and only some people are prone to headaches. I've played on mine hours with no side effects what so ever.

I will second the new 3DS as its somewhere between the old 3DS screen and the XL but looks nice and sharp and still fits in the pocket. Plus face plates if you sant to customise and the nice SNES style buttons.

I got mine from ASDA for £50. Not overly impressed with either zelda or the built in mariokart. Even for emulation it's poor. Did like the 3D card thing though.

Are these any good? I have a 6 year old and we're due a holiday at the end of the year so thinking of picking one up ready and suprising him so he has something to do other than his iPad when traveling.

I prefer the OG clamshell design but this is made for 6 year olds as it is durable (no snapable hinges).

Great games like Pokemon ORAS/XY/Sun and Moon, Mario, Zelda etc.

I prefer the 2DS to the 3DS (old or new) because the 3D screen on the 3DS is, frankly, bloody awful (even when turned-off!!)

At best it's smeary, at worst it's headache-inducing - I don't get how people use it.

I love Nintendo - some of the greatest gaming experiences ever made - but the 2DS/3DS is a bit of a turkey - the 2DS allows you to try out it's few (very few) gems at the lowest entry cost so that's the one I have but YMMV

Some people would crucify you for saying that
  26. naivri's avatar
The "3DS is better" crowd are missing the point.

This version is for younger children who you shouldn't let use the 3D aspect as their eyes are still developing ie kids under 6 or 7 (I can't remember)

Also, this one is like £50 cheaper than a new 3DS, so not even a valid comparison

I'm holding off until we know more about the NX. If the NX a replacement for the 3DS then I might just get that, but for people who still want a 3DS, it'll surely drop in price when the NX launches in March, or perhaps in time for Christmas.
  28. deleted1075301's avatar
Only someone with more money than sense would currently buy a 'new' 3DS. Overpriced and soon to be replaced. 2DS is simply the most logical purchase if you currently wish to play the current 3DS titles.

You'd have to check the serial number to be sure. Bundled pre-installs vary. Many are 9.3 upwards.

They did, it was called PS Vita and mine's been sitting in the drawer for last 8 months.

It's difficult but it is long and involved. Took me about 5 hours one night to do one 3ds, but I was uber careful. The steps and therefore length of time it takes all depends on your current firmware version

If you google arm9loader hax and go to the first link it is the guide I used

Its not for the fainthearted. It certainly isn't a Vita/PSP hack where you put one file on the memory card, run it and boom its done.

I thought with the DS it was simply buy a R4 card, download the latest kernel file onto a SD card and you were away to go? (Once youve put the games on the card aswell)
