The watch is driven by the OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861, which powers the small seconds sub-dial, 30-minute recorder and 12-hour recorder, along with the central chronograph function.

Regret not buying one when I saw for sale in Costco for around £2k +vat. Could just about have managed/justified that 10 years ago. I'm priced out now and feel Omega are having a giraffe.

If you dont mind 'homage', the Pagani Design 1701 is a lot better than it has any right to be for a tiny fraction of the cost. I'd prefer the real McCoy but would need a lottery win to buy it.

Pagani offers absolutely stunning quality for the price. 67$ and I got Sapphire with AR coating + great Seiko Mecha-quartz VK64 movement. You obviously don't get a fancy badge, but value for money is insane if you compare it to some recycled plastic Swatch. The new red one looks stunning too.

I've got the gold one too. It would be my favourite watch in my collection as that colour combination is phenomenal. Unfortunately the gold version is V2, when they didn't use AR coating so dark dial with domed crystal = a mirror... They added AR coating from V3 versions on i think, but still haven't released the gold version with AR coating.

Are the prices for these slowly starting to creep upwards?

Nothing slow about it. They're taking the mick

If only the Swatch version was as easily available

I have the Earth. In all honestly it's not worth paying a premium (i bought my retail price). Omega design based on Moonwatch but it's all swatch cheapish stuff inside.

I have a Submariner and a Seamaster... was looking at a speedmaster next and this is a good price. My only concern is the production cost is under 2k
    Rumcajs_9's avatar
The cost of production is most likely far lower than £2000.
  5. Punylegs's avatar
Not a bad price. But save yourself a few notes and go for a new perfect condition second hand version instead

Damn , I’d buy if it had a diff strap or bracelet

    Heat for sure ! (edited)

Absolutely stunning watch. Out of my price range but gorgeous. Hope you Speedmaster owners appreciate them.

this ad's from approx 1975 , putting the figurs into an inflation calculator the speedy would have cost around £1100 by todays prices. (edited)

Bought thanks OP, my first luxury watch. Just the one left now!
    Diabolik88's avatar
Congratulations and just enjoy it mate, there's a lot of naysayers out there but ignore them.

I was extremely lucky to pick up the sapphire sandwich on bracelet in January for only 350 quid more than you've paid for this and it's probably my most worn watch.

My collection includes a Planet Ocean, a Sea Dweller, a Chronomat B01 and quite a few others so I've got plenty of choice yet my Speedy just feels so different on wrist and is so understated.

    You'll love it!
  10. ezzer72's avatar
If it helps anyone decide either way, I bought the sapphire version of the 'Moonwatch' (I'm confident man hasn't been to the Moon) about a year and a half ago, it's the 2021 model, 3861 movement etc. but I can honestly say I find it utterly dull and never wear it. Buy a Planet Ocean instead, amazing watches.

I have to agree. I've been tempted a few times as the hype on the internet does get the better of me sometimes so I end up going on to the dealers but when I try it on it just looks bland and dull. It does not look like a £6,000 watch. I get all the history and what not but I don't care if it's been to the moon.

I did get a speed master in the end... Dark side of the moon edition but the original is just bland.

I even find my MoonSwatch's have more character than the speedy.

    50433593_1.jpg
And the dark side of the moon edition which just looks so do much better...

I love this watch!, Wish I had a spare 5k kicking about, i would be castrated by my other half if I came home with this (edited)

I considered one of these for a while. Went with a seamaster instead. Actually was looking at them again today but it just looks a bit boring to me now.

Good price for those who like it though. (edited)

me, browsing HDUK for deals on discounted groceries because my mortgage rate just doubled: ooh 15% off a £6,000 watch, bargain

This was 3k in 2017 with the black leather strap...

I've got one of these for about 2.5% of the cost. It even has Neil climbing down the ladder. Admittedly it's not as nice as the authentic one but then that one is not 40 times better either

£5175 might not get you a decent car these days, used prices are mental. My Dad's 2013 Golf GTD with 165k miles is supposedly worth £9.5k - totally crackers.

I was actually somewhat considering this, I’ve been pondering a Speedy for a while. It would pair up well with my lighter GS. However, that kind of money for hesalite should be a crime.

Why? The cost of the glass is only a small proportion of the watch.

The hesselite is also much nicer, the omega sapphire is far too flat so lacks the distortion that makes the hesselite actually pop.

I've just returned mine, the chrono functions on the v3 seems prone to sticking and not returning to zero.

Blue dial would have looked great on this !

This is a great watch based on a timeless design, get it on a nato strap and it really pops….

I managed to get the older big box model this year as new old stock at 2020 prices with a small loyalty discount. As I prefer the bracelet and buckle of it.. but the new movement is so much better on the latest model.

Lost you at a NATO strap on a £5k watch (edited)

This watch is a clasic first produced in 1957 (quite a few updates) check out the story of how it came to be selected as the NASA space watch its very interesting (I dont think the people at hamilton would agree though)
    MungoSplodge's avatar
The people at Hamilton and the people at Omega are the same people, so they might agree nowadays

Do not buy this as an investment. The auction price of a new speedmaster will be around £3k and avoid all automatic or reduced size models.

If you want new the 15% is a good discount to start with. (edited)

I’ve looked at this model before and been put off by the hesalite crystal which I believe scratches easily ?
Anyway it’s either this or one month’s mortgage payment the way things are going :-/
    mn9108's avatar
Buy a tube of Polywatch from Amazon for a few quid, tape up the bezel and apply a bit of light pressure. Removes scratches and scuffs from hesalite with ease.

I bought my speedy for 5200 in January before the price hike. I used a hsbc purchase credit card, 0% APR for 22 months. Softened the blow of a large initial outlay. Paid a couple of grand the first month, then 300-400 a month afterwards. I owe 400 now. Still have 16 months of 0% Apr left, time for another big buy!
