I assumed I could just find a Calor gas propane bottle (I know there are supply issues). Am I incorrect, I need to change something to make this work?

Just to add - changing the regulator is a fairly trivial job if you do decide to go that way; new regulators are approx £10, and it's a 2 minute job with a screwdriver (for the jubilee clip) and some hot water.

The advanced option is to fit in-line quick release connectors - that way you can switch quickly and easily between several types of bottle. This is what we have, so we have a big Calor 19kg propane for getting best value at home most the time, but can switch easily to the 4.5kg butane that we use in the caravan when camping.

The other note for newbies is that, if starting from scratch, look to buy an empty bottle of your preferred type from ebay or marketplace - it's usually much cheaper than getting a new bottle contract from the suppliers. Calor have had terrible supply problems for the last year but they finally seem to be getting on top of them now. If starting fresh it's worth looking at Flogas though - they're competitively priced and have been more reliable recently. The big advantage of Calor is more stockists (most garages etc - when things are working properly). With Flogas you'll probably need to do home delivery, but that system works well. Finally if not bothered about the absolute best value per kg, it's well worth looking at the Flogas Gaslight bottles - they work with the standard Ooni reg, and are so much easier to handle. They used to be stupidly expensive compared to the old type bottle, but its much much closer now so they're a really good option. (edited)

    Of course

There are basically two types of connections.

    - Push fit (Fitted to Ooni). These connect to the green Calor green bottles marketed as 'patio gas' a lot of the time. Issue with these are supply is low, and the prices are very high.

-Screw fit the more 'traditional' connection. These are usually the red bottles with Calor or Flo-gas on. availability of these is much better and they are cheaper to buy / fill. (Also more likely to find in your little local garden / outdoor places)

So because the ooni comes with a push fit regulator (the bit that 'plugs in' to the bottle). If you were wanting to get the red bottles you would need a new regulator. something like this amazon.co.uk/Pro…8-3

My advice would be take a look at how much you can get 'patio gas' (Green calor bottles) for, and see how much you can get the red bottles for. And then see if its worth the effort changing your regulator

The reasons the red bottles are easier to get hold of is because they have been around for ages and Flo-gas / Calor used to make them (as well as others). Calor basically decided to start marketing the green push fit ones and produce them. Because there isn't much competition for those they can charge ££££

Edit: just looked at prices near me and they are a lot closer than they used to be (edited)

I had a similar fear and have used mine c. 25 times a year over the last 2 years in all weathers and for both small family gatherings, NYE parties, etc. It's quite comfortably the best thing I've ever bought and the only downside - all other pizzas (even when eating out) just don't quite taste the same.

I actually use the same stone in my gas Weber BBQ Q2200 which gives me a surprisingly good result. I know its not the same but at least I don’t have an additional device.

Yummy, spider and bug infested pizza, lovely

Buy the cover/carry case for it, plus I doubt there would be much left of a spider after being cooked at 300+ oC, either way they taste fantastic

Just built this for when mine arrives. Really pleased with my efforts, considering the last time I did wood work was about 30 years ago at school.
Going to paint it but it’s now time for a beer.

Just opens up your ebay/marketplace options a bit. Be aware that the stockists/delivery drivers don't always know this though, so have a printout or screenshot of the website ready so you can avoid any arguments!

As others have said, empty ones found on Facebook market place, I am going to do the same so we have a spare one when we run out mid cooking and can just swap.

Is the Karu 12 a better and easier to use option than the Frya 12? I know the Frya only takes wood pellets which are seem expensive and the Karu takes charcoal or wood kindling so should be cheaper and easier to heat plus it has the option for gas if you buy the attachment.

There is about £35 difference between the 2 of them

From what I’ve read and video’s I’ve watched on YouTube, the advice seems to be, if you can, spend the extra and get the Koda or Karu. The Fyra is still a good oven, but the others are not a fiddly with the pellets.

I changed the regulator on my ooni oven so I can use a bigger bottle of gas (and a bottle of gas I can pick up at my local shop)

Tip* Put the original regulator into warm water and it comes off easily.

I changed mine to a screwtype too. Much cheaper to buy gas for that type isn't it !

Good tip on the regulator. I just cut mine off. Don't 'loose' much hose, and means I can get a nice seal on the new one.
