I spent a long time researching batteries (seem to use them a lot for the kids toys). Eneloop where my go to but it was getting expensive keeping up so I started to research others.

The IKEA batteries seem to be based on the some technology as the Eneloop batteries and are comparable in quality while being a lot cheaper.

I found the same, the IKEA batteries that specifically say "Made in Japan" are made in the eneloop factory, but are possibly gen 1 eneloops. All of mine purchased 6 months ago were still made in Japan.

Ok I got a bit nerdy with this rewrapped eneloop pavlava a while back, my conclusions at the time:
The AAA 750mah Ikea LADDAS are 1st generation standard eneloops(non-pro), because they are made in japan and are only rated for 1000 charge cycles, while the newer gens claim 2100 charge cycles. The AA 2450mah rated LADDAS are Gen 4 eneloop pros. There's not very much difference between Eneloop generations in terms of performance, so don't worry about that.

This was what I found to be true at the time I purchased some a few months back, but Ikea have in past sourced their batteries from chinese factories. The China-loops may have similar or even identical specs, but they are ultimately an inferior product and won't perform as well as japanloops in the long run.

Long story short, make sure they say "Made in Japan" on the packaging!

Shame they're not AA. Don't know what you would use rechargeable AAA batteries for.

Remotes, motion sensing LED lights. Kitchen timers. Audio recorders. Also use AA to Aaa adapters to lighten certain things like remotes.

Anyone recommend a good charger for these, please?

I've been using the IKEA Stenkol charger with mine for some time now, with zero issues so far. I'm not a battery expert though, so can't really comment how good or bad the charger is. It is only £5 though.

Eneloops or IKEA ladda (which are rebranded eneloops) are the way to go
    deleted2111085's avatar
They haven’t been rebranded Eneloops for a good while. They are still fantastic batteries though.

Do these charge okay in the ikea STENKOL charger ?
    youngrobbo's avatar
Been using the Stenkol charger for some time with mine with zero issues.

Cheaper than it was on Prime day. Shows you what a scam Amazon's so called deals are!

Last year I set a watch on camelcamelcamel for a particular camera body. Two weeks before black friday it dropped to the lowest ever price (about £700) and I bought it, Amazon banners even said they would refund me the difference if the black friday price was lower. the day after I ordered it, it went up by £200, and on BF it only went down to about 800, 100 more than the best price had been just weeks before.

So yes, lesson learned. Use price history tools and be wary of Amazon deals. (edited)

Why are these worth the extra over other rechargables?
    gg1pl's avatar
Far superior charge retention which is why they come pre-charged as they can hold 70% capacity even after 10 years

Wow great price for eneloop! Anyone know of any good 1.5v AA rechargeables?
    rev6's avatar
    Look for Lithium batteries.

I heard that Ikea's branded batteries are supposed to be Enelope-like.

I've been using both 2,450 mAh LADDAs and Eneloop Pros (various generations) for quite a few years now and in my experience, there is essentially no difference, other than price, where the LADDAs win.

In in-depth test results, there is no meaningful difference between them, for example, compare the graphs here: -

I charge all my eneloops at 200ma... charging them to quickly will kill them prematurely.
Invest in a good charger and they'll last donkeys years. (edited)

Any suggestions of a good charger?

Heat! These were only £10.99 the last time I bought some.
Mind you, that was back in 2015 and.. yes, they are still working / charging to this day!

I've spent too long truing to get the right answer on some good batteries that don't cost a fortune or die within a few years.

I have Duracell and Energizer. I have a Energizer 1 hour Charger and it's forever flashing and telling me a battery is dead. So annoying! These batteries cosy a fortune and the failure rate is shocking. 2nd charger as thought it may have just been that.
    Rellik088's avatar
    Because you're buying bad brands.

Eneloops are universally known as the best by a huge margin.

My Eneloops are still going strong a decade later. Over 70% charge left.

You should only ever buy Eneloops. (edited)

Good deal. In case no one knows you can get half the price eneloop pro AA's from ikea. They are just rebadged eneloops called lada. On the battery it says made in japan as they come from the same factory as eneloops.
    £8 for a 4 pack AA's-

Wow, still alot more expensive then deals with Duracell and Energizer.
I thunk my problem is that now I have a little one, he now has all my batteries in his toys. So now I need some more for Xbox Controller/torches etc

I don't seem to understand, why are Eneloops more revered than any other rechargeable battery?
    leicesterlad's avatar
They hold their charge much better than cheaper rechargeable batteries. Like others have mentioned if you invest in an intelligent or smart battery charger you can see how well they perform. I bought a Youshiko battery charger and have tested eneloop batteries as well as other brands like Amazon, EBL and Hi Quick batteries. The eneloops consistently give you a reading around the capacity of the battery eg. 800mah for a AAA battery as an example. When I perform the same test on an Amazon or EBL battery the capacity or test for a battery will vary widely. I have some AAA batteries with an advertised capacity of 800mah and when I perform tests I barely get 400mah. In my opinion other eneloops or IKEA ladder batteries are the best rechargeable ones on the market.

Save your pennies and get some LADDA batteries instead, very close to the same performance for a lot less.
    nocturnal74's avatar
Ladda are terrible cars, pure heaps
  21. LadyEleanor's avatar
If you regularly use batteries you might as well buy a charger with a capacity meter.
    Such as the Uniross Ultimate.
Note, Ikea batteries are not the same, but very good anyway. (edited)

    'cycle' in the title

Edit: Although mine did trigger on the word 'bike'. (edited)

I get set of AA and AAA also with eneloop charger of ebay something like back in 2017 and couldn't go back to standard or go with cheap rechargeable ones, these are great quality, very reliable can't recommend enough!

Could these be used on a blink doorbell camera? If not, any recommendation on rechargeables that can be used on it?

I was pleased to see that the batteries which arrived today are the vastly superior made in Japan version.
