Update 1
Update with a recent deal.
Hi folks,

I am trying to get the best of the best in a megathread, so we can see the best ones and compare them.
I will have them in different categories, so it will be easier to separate them. I am not planning to have a dedicated category for the +17" form factor, but please let me know if you would like that and I will separate them.

Every time we see a deal, we get the first question: TGP!? What's the TGP on the GPU!?
TGP stands for total graphics power, so definitely check this one before you buy a laptop. The higher is better.

Your table is not quite correct though, at least for the Nvidia cards.

For example, the 3070, 3070 Ti and 3080 can go up to 140W, 150W and 165W respectively with Dynamic Boost. I'm pretty sure the lower tier Nvidia cards also have dynamic boost which can increase the TGP if there's enough combined CPU+GPU thermal and power headroom.

I would consider looking at CeX and buy a used laptop, get 2 years warranty as well ✅

I bought one the other day using vouchers I had saved, got me the following for £434....nothing great, but better than spending £1000 and above.....I can now spend the rest on a holiday

I'm keen on the 2022 legion 7i for the build quality and the 3070 ti seems to hit a good sweet spot between wattage and performance. Ideally I'd like a bigger SSD, but can always upgrade that myself.

Seems ok, though personally I'd consider a little expensive since Lenovo were offering the 2023 Legion 5i for £1615 recently (13700HX, RTX 4070, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD)....thou that's unlikely to reappear (for a while). Obviously, the 7 is higher class (at least 2022 model), but not sure there's that huge amount in it.

If you can get a further discount at Currys...? (edited)

Bought a Lenovo Legion 7 5800H / RTX 3080 16GB / 1TB back in September 2021 for £1750 and still loving it. - Upgraded the RAM to 32GB and added another 1TB SSD the day i got it.

Performance is solid. Build quality for a non Apple device is also solid.

Depends on what deals are flying about, there was a deal a few days ago on their website on Legion 5i with 4070 and with no OS which was an absolute no brainer, but sometimes other brands can have better deals. Lenovo pricing is very competitive though usually. (edited)

I know a lot of people are interested in 40 series cards thinking they are somehow "better" or more powerful than 30 series. Make sure you go ahead and check on youtube comparisons as you might discover a 3070 or 3070 ti is way better than 4050 and probably cost the same or less even. Good luck with your search!

The main benefit of 4000 series is the 40% extra performance for the same power consumption, which is much more important on a laptop vs a desktop.

I bought the z13 flow 3070ti and it is less performance than my desktop 2080 super. Stuttering all the time.
    adam.mt's avatar

The Flow Z13 has a 3050Ti, and benchmarks do indeed show a desktop 2080 Super to have higher performance.

You will need to adjust your game settings. (edited)

May be worth keeping an eye on the dell outlet, got a Ryzen 5800h with a full fat ( 130w?) 3060 for under 750 quid a year ago (wanted a new desktop but just a GPU would have been most of that 750 quid) Looked completely untouched when I got it but was willing to take that risk and just return if it looked a bit abused. From all accounts cooling is much better on the Lenovo but at the time it was a good few hundred quid more.

Don't know to be honest. Is the price near £420 for a fair comparison? The words 'expensive PC bellend' seem to be charging this way! (edited)

Just bought an Alienware for my son which is £350 off with a code. It was the best 3070ti deal a week ago and still available.

Ryzen 9/1Tb/16Gb/3070ti/FHD £1399 and can pay via PayPal credit (I did 3 months so it didn't look as if I was spending too much)

Other, worse configurations, don't have the £350 off. Must have a lot of these in as it is next day delivery. Only real downside is the charger which isn't USB C.

Best deal I found was Acer Nitro 5 Intel Core i7 16GB RAM 512GB SSD Nvidia RTX 3060 17.3" 165Hz Gaming Laptop for £899. Other laptops with same specs cost well over £1000.

Does anybody know which ones of the cheaper gaming laptops have decent screens? Most of the reviews state that the IPS 120Hz or 144Hz panels are simply mediocre. I've heard there was some improvement on the newer panels but not 100% sure which ones are that. I think one can usually recognize them by higher refresh rates but don't know if that's the only criteria or if it's even accurate. I'm looking at the 2022 laptops mainly with either Intel gen12 or Ryzen 6xx family. Thanks!

To be clear, the reason most gamers avoid Lenovo and chose MSI or ASUS instead is malware right down to the hardware chips. If you don't mind loss of privacy, how about slowing down Windows by 25% frustrating game players so they shout loud enough to get mum also shouting! Your games experience ruined.
If you think you can remove that malware. You can't it realy is in the Chinese hardware, in the chips. Yes that bad.
    Look it up.

Correct: Google "malware in lenovo" you get 8 and a half million hits. Monsterous! (edited)

I like this metric: ‘malware in apple’ gave me 37 million hits! Apple has over 4 times the malware of lenovo! Monsterous!
