PC SPECIALIST Proteus V 15.6" GTX 1070 8GB 1TB Core i7 Gaming Laptop £1002.97 @ Currys Ebay

Good price for a laptop with a 1070 GPU.

Interesting it has no disk drive in the description yet in the box of contents it comes with 'Driver discs?' (skeptical)

Shame i can't afford it. I have one of their gaming pc and was very good value for specs.

Shame it's not under £500 ;)

Not so much if you play with all settings ultra. Should last next year or so at 1080p 60fps ultra...

Low framerate, non-GSync screen hurts this the most, I'd say. 1070 is a fine card but it's a little wasted on a 60hz screen.

Is this one a better deal for £479.95? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AWD-Stronghold-2600-Six-Core-3-9GHz-RX-580-8GB-Desktop-Gaming-PC/323682000649?hash=item4b5cf35f09:g:noMAAOSwmFxcWagO&frcectupt=true

Looks an excellent deal. May even bite. Heat.

Its listed as having an SSD on the listing details. Not sure if it'll come with it. I've got 2 x 240gbs to drop right in, as well as a 1TB drive from my old 2500K build.

Do you mean the one that worked out at £449 with the code as i see that has now gone from the site ? Pick up a ssd and windows 10 key for around £50 and that's a great rig for £500!

I went for that after lots of consideration since it was £499 on AWD-IT

Best price I've seen for a 1060 laptop.

Looks good but it doesn't say anything about warranty and you have to pay after 30 days to return back which sounds a bit crap

How would the Asus FX504 compare, would that really struggle at mid to high settings?

I bought this laptop new about 6 months ago for just under 900 new. Absolutely flies. Will play pretty much anything at 1080p with mid to high settings. Great little gaming laptop.

Better than a 1050ti

The Optane memory is in the m2 slot so you can deactivate Optane and replace it with an m2 ssd.

I've been scouring the internet looking for a good deal on a 1060 laptop and found this. Please note this is a substantially better card than a 1050 and will play most games in ul… Read more

It would thrash a PS4 Pro at 1080p, handily. As an example I play Dirt Rally maxed out at around 90-100fps on my laptop, the most I can get on PS4 Pro is 60fps and (massively simplifying things here) that’s missing the fact that the Pc version has longer draw distances and greater vegetation detail. I play Steep on both PC and PS4 Pro and the difference in draw distance alone is insane It’s the same across tons of games. It’s things like environments being much more richly detailed, better population levels in RPGs, better smoke/dirt effects etc. Console gaming is great but once you move to PC you start to realise what you’ve been missing out on (and what you’ve been paying much more for

Don't know much about gaming laptops being a console gamer so I was wondering what a laptop with these specs could offer in comparison to a PS4 Pro as I might take the plunge. Say The Division 2 or Resident Evil 2, as an example. Would this laptop run it better than a PS4 Pro? Primarily I've been used to 30fps/60fps at 1080p

"The keyboard was like pressing on an omelette" (lol) Absolutely cracking comment, ahaha!

Sorry your right

Anyone interested in this should go to their local PC World to try the keyboard and trackpad out. I had a Nitro and had to send it back. They keyboard was like pressing on an omelette and there was a good amount of travel on the trackpad before it registered a click. Mine also had a very poor screen but I understand there has been a slight revision to the models in that time so might be a little better. The Nitro line is a world away from the Helios laptops. Obviously the price reflects that but make sure you're ok with the compromises.

I’ll have a think, I don’t want to drop too much performance as I’m currently using a powerful Core 2 Duo (2,53mhz) coupled with 4Gb RAM and a mighty Radeon 3600 card (y)

if you will be playing at 1080p 60hz the rx580 should be enough, if your at 1080p 144hz or 1440p then its worth going for a vega 56 as it is significantly more powerful.

I looked at some YT stuff on the two and decided to go with the Ryzen, Im now thinking of upgrading it to the Vega 56, would that be a significant enough upgrade to warrant the ££ or just go with this + another 8Gb RAM? (confused)

That's annoying 😥

thats a good gpu but the i5 7400 will bottleneck it significantly especially in newer games notice how in most games its over 85% usage that will strongly impact performance and you will have lower fps and stutter in games, much better to go for a ryzen system especially considering you will get a warranty and a platform that's not dead. performance will be worse in some games becuase of the worse gpu but you should have less stutter and better multitasking and some games will perform better on a ryzen and 580 system because of that 7400 bottlenecking.

should be all good :) most use 3000hz ram

Thanks for the helpful confirmation as the ad doesn't say it is included anywhere that i can see. I've looked and the 2600 cpu seem to have the weaker stealth rather than the spire. I think i can live with the weaker cooling solution as i wont be overclocking very much I doubt so this is looking attractive to me. The weaker DRM will hopefully be ok as well. I already have the 3000 MHz ram.

Comes with its own cooler . AMD don't sell OEM chips like Intel so all retail with spire or wraith cooler Will need DDR4 ram, CCL doing 16GB Corsair 3000hz kit for £85, as well as the bundle

Thanks for verifying mate! My pc arrived yesterday, delivered on time and it's working great! I didnt have any game codes though so I messaged them too and they replied saying they are emailed out 7 days after the system is delivered. Been really impressed with it so far, good customer service too, can't fault it at all!

Seems like a lot of grunt for the £s, Heated.

Guys just FYI I asked if you qualify for any of the free games available with RTX cards and they said yes they provide the codes (a copy of either Anthem, BF5 or Metro Exodus) which adds even more value to this build! One thing to bear in mind is they do not use all the case fan slots so you will need to buy extra fans yourself. THey only provide one fan at the front and one at the back so I may need to sort out some extra fans by calling them but those shouldn't cost much for an extra 3/4 fans.

why use buildzoids video,he breaks more stuff than he repaires and openly admits it...

It's not really worth it, not because of Ryzen but because the i7 9700k does 99% of what this does for significantly less.

It’s not that it was produced to perform well in older games, it’s just at higher resolutions even a 2080Ti becomes the limiting factor long before the cpu. It really depends what you are using the cpu for.

Agreed, Ryzen cant touch it at FHD screen rez, but at 4K there is apparently 1fps difference between the 8800K, 9900K and the 2700X (or so several reviews I just read suggested). its like the 9900K was produced to perform well in tests and older games!!!

the i9 is a plainly a faster cpu, but its price/perf compared to ryzen is abysmal. Unless you actually need the extra performance, and don't mind buying into yet another dead-end platform, there aren't many reason to go for it. And even if you need the top single core performance you can get, the 9700k is just as good for significantly less money.

Very similar I would say. Except the PS4 Pro pushes all games to run in active 4K which means sometimes textures suffer on behalf of resolution. On a laptop you get to choose whether you want better details in lower resolution or lower details in 4K. If you just play on its built in screen you don't need 4K anyway, only if you were going to use a TV to connect to it.

How would this laptop compare to a PS4 Pro for running the latest games? Thanks

I have to second that as well. I installed a Samsung 960 EVO 250GB for £30 off eBay and used Macrium Reflect, all I can say is wow what a difference. When I first got it I was ready to return it, arrived and they hadnt wiped it, took 5 minutes to start up. Wiped and flashed it and so laggy and slow. But now I have installed an SSD and booting from that its 10 seconds and I'm starting up games and programs! Its an awesome laptop at an incredible price!

Macrium Reflect is amazing!

Update. I removed the Optane drive and Installed the 500Gb WD Black NvMe SSD. At first I was dubious about opening the case to install the SSD but I found a video and found it very easy. Used Macrium Reflect to clone the 1Tb HD with all partitions (including the restore partition). Now windows boots up in less than 12 seconds...Im amazed by the speed of this drive. My son installed Black Mesa and was getting between 270 to 300 fps. I honestly think this is amazing bargain, and installing the NvMe SSD has made a massive improvement on a already good gaming laptop. Do it, you wont regret it.
