Spray whisky on your lawn at night.
When you wake up the morning, it'll be half cut.

Can anyone recommend a good electric-start petrol mower that will last a good number of years but doesn't cost the world?

I bought one of these last year, it's a very good mower and a good deal.

Doesn't exist I'm afraid - with mowers you get the quality and lifespan you pay for. Not the hukd ethos I know but there you go

The Aldi lawnmower I got last year on specialbuy had the mulch attachment. This one doesn't appear to have it. Shame as it's very useful if you can't be doing with getting rid of the grass cuttings.
Mower has been good as gold so far but is quite heavy.

You might be better off with a decent razor, something like an Edwin Jagger DE89 (the "barley" handle is nice) - perhaps paired with Astra blades. Most people recommend Taylors of Old Bond Street (TOBS) as a shaving cream, but I find the stuff by Geo. F. Trumper to be better again. Be sure to join the DE Shaving thread on here !

Quite possibly but you'll need to get it resharpened afterwards. Quick tip, have the sat nav preprogrammed with the nearest A&E post code.

Does this make nice stripes on your lawn? And, being self-propelled, can you go backwards if your lawn has some nooks and crannies? I currently have a Bosch electric cordless but it's hard work on damp grass - I presume this mows damp grass OK?
