Cex is the best for second hand because they give a 2 year warranty, which is often better than the warranty you get on new stuff!!

I've heard quite a few horror stories on trying to claim in their warranty. I've never had to do it personally, thankfully.

I brought a GPU from them about a year ago now and it's worked flawlessly.

Got mine today, looks like it's been pulled from a steam deck from new, 1 hours power on time and 47gb written

Yeah I stole it from you shamelessly (tho I did have to look for it a bit). Credit to you my dawg.

The last drive I bought from them had 500gb of onlyfools material on it, and had been written on so much the health was in the 30 percent which I've never seen before. Never buying a drive from them again.

Probably it has been used as Chia crypto plotting. I don't understand why people couldn't be bothered to even wipe the disk before selling. I bought a 8TB disk several years ago, it came with strip club CCTV footage filled in.

Bought for steam deck, if I encounter any issues will post here.

Upgraded SSD, physically it is compatible however I problem I ran into was that when it came to reinstalling Steam OS on the new SSD the controls do not work as they have no drivers. You can use the touch screen but to complete the setup you will need to connect a keyboard. Other than that works a treat.

CeX very rarely test hard drives. If they are standard SATA or USB, they will plug them in to their test harness and do a SMART check and a quick format. M2s or anything exotic or fiddly are more likely to be 'tested' by a visual inspection. The customer will also be asked if they have removed the data and they will say yes.

This is still a good deal, but you should perform your own tests before doing anything useful with your new drive.

It would be interesting to see how many bitcoin wallets can be recovered by buying 100 sub-£10 drives from CeX, as quick formats don't erase anything.

Just to echo this. I've had a drive from them that had absolutely no use beforehand, but I've also had a drive that had more writes to it than the manufacturer rated it for.

Mistake most likely, receive one, but has three available (edited)

As others have mentioned, you might want to check the drive health when you get one.
I've sold multiple NVMe's to them, most were at 45-55% health and they bought them all (and didn't even ask if I'd wiped the data from them).

Worth the risk at that price though. (edited)

Useful in normal systems too! Ideal as an OS + apps drive! Much easier to image and backup. Then have a second drive for everything else.

Well you've always got 2 days no quibble returns period anyway, so you can check the SMART data and return if you don't like it

Just received mine and the statistics are the same as the comment below.

The drive has been powered on for 1 hour, 100% health and had 47GB written to the drive.

    Great find (edited)
