Standard then legendary then special then anniversary. Newest in anniversary which is a year or two old

Thanks OP, Any recommendations for mods for this? I played this year's ago on the 360, but just bought it again for the steam deck

Depends which version you have the special edition or anniversary edition have a HD graphics upgrade. If you have legendary edition or standard edition I'd add graphic mods (edited)

And Youtube has increasing numbers of vids showing Skyrim mods that allow freeform conversation with NPCs driven by AI (tho it takes near 10 seconds for 'the cloud' to process your input, and produced an appropriate response by the NPC).

Note these mods are not practical yet for our use, and the vids are probably a little bit dishonest, but even so the tech is evolving rapidly, and in the near future open world RPGs are going to have astonishing interaction. AI voice synthesis, now almost perfect, allows Skyrim modders to solve the 'voice acting' 'problem', and even offline AI can be used to generate vast amounts of baked dialogue. But mods that allow real conversations with NPCs are going to take immersion to a mind-blowing place, and I'd guess we'll have viable versions within three years.

Special Edition is £7.99 which seems like a good buy.

Prior warning: If you buy this older version, you're definitely going to need to mod it to get it upto a respectable standard of more modern looking graphics. Furthermore, you will be looking for mods that more specifically work for this version. As many Skyrim mods do not work on both this version and also the Special Edition. Most current Skyrim mods are nowadays very likely primarily designed for the SE version. (edited)

Great game. Best on the Switch so you can play in bed.

Best on PC, it's cheaper, you can mod it to hell and play it in bed on your steam deck

Never got past the first village in this. Combat is clunky as hell

In fairness, combat was never its thing. It's just the sheet size and amount of content for me.

Which version is best to play solely on the Steam Deck?
