Cheapest it's ever been according to the camel tracking. Even the UK sites never been that low. So I'll be taking the leap and finally buying one.

Well if you want to pay practically double for 1tb that's upto you, I was actually trying to help you....... I've had that many recertified drives,,, not had any bother I'm sure people will say different, but I've had new that failed, so what the difference?
Upto you, your money to waste , just trying to help...

Well you have been unlucky there, I have had WD drives still running for 10 years, but yeh, when something happens it makes you think, but you have been unlucky there, I guess It happens and makes you think, and I'm unlucky....... I once bought a Sony TV back in the day, it had that many faults, it stopped me buying a Sony TV again, but yeh I get your point, maybe give one another go.......just from a money saving point......would I give a Sony TV a go,, maybe if it come up..... Rubbish, I bought one, it came brand new sealed in the box, I've had others, look brand new, sealed, been no problem, and I've had brand new fail... Depends how much your paying... To make a sweeping comment like that is incorrect.,you may never, but others will, and I go by my own experience...
But your money and choice. (edited)
