I appreciate there are comments praising this, I have one and have never been entirely thrilled with it, the lack of bottom vents makes getting it up to temperature tricky (I'm unpersuaded the side vents do much) and the shape means you've got a reasonable amount of grill area not directly above coals. Id go for the Weber Go Anywhere if I were getting another small charcoal grill. (edited)

I agree it needs the bottom vents, the side vents did nothing much and I struggled to cook using it, I saw a mod online and drilled 3 large holes in the bottom of the dish, made it much better, just like my 57cm Weber. I think i saw that Weber did release a version with an adjustable vent underneath in the Smokey Joe range, but not sure what it’s called?

I have one of these, they are great. I actually tend to prefer it to my "big boy" Weber as it's quicker to get to temperature, has an odd "steaming" effect which results in tender meats.

Despite its size, it's perfectly fine for a small get together. We've had great fun feeding 3-4 people. It's worth buying the cover for it, makes it so much more portable.

At this price it's a bit of a steal, they usually go for nearer £100. If budget is a real concern there are various knock off versions on eBay for <30, but I don't know how long they'll last.

Have both Smokey joe and go anywhere. I would go for a go anywhere over the Smokey joe if you can. It’s a lot more flexible for offset cooking and vent options. Packs down to similar size but easier to travel. Also has bigger capacity and higher lid for larger cuts. My smokey joe is great for a couple of smaller steaks, sausages and burger but I rarely use it now and only tend to use it now to start my charcoal with my chimney.

I got this for £35 delivered last year in November. Still haven't used it once yet but atleast I know it's there waiting.

I have a smokey Joe from the early 90s, main problem I have with that one seems to be echoed on this one, the inlet vents are too high for lid on cooking and it struggles to maintain temperature.

You'd think in the 30 years since they'd have noticed. The model the yanks call the silver has a bottom vent like the kettles, I imagine that works a lot better.

If all you do is sausages and burgers with the lid off it won't matter either way ofc. (edited)

Yeah I mean I wouldn't dream of trying a long cook on one of these, it's for a quick mid week burger or sausage hit.

It's actually down from £103, so quite a bargain for the premium version. (edited)

The grill is a letdown, only being plated and not stainless.  I ordered a replacement and it only lasted a short while, genuine item too.  There are american companies who make a stainless grill for them.

Bought it regardless of mixed reviews - hope I don't regret it. Using a £15 cheapie from Blacks which I was happy with but forgot I had it before pulling the trigger. Hey ho
