    Great camera for the price
had mine for 5 years or more . . . . still working
had to flash mine from chinese to english as purchased from Ali-E
Most dash cams use the same scensor and all have similar picture quality
check out LTT YT video on this subject.
Was thinking about upgrading to the new Xiaomi A800 4k version but YT had some very mediocre reviews on this!
Apparently the A229 DUO is the best overall Dash Cam for 2023 but its £230 -£260 depending on where you purchase.
For the money i would stick with this cheap Xiaomi. (edited)

This camera any good ? Or nextbase worth the extra $$$?

It's a very good dash camera, got two for my car. Front and rear, was spot on when someone hit me on motorway, caught every detail/clarity on no plate even in darkness.
I paid 40ish from Ali express.

As a complete novice, will this be easy to install to the electrics?

Best way would be to find an empty option socket in your fuse box that powers on with the car and wire it into that. You'd need to Google for specific instructions for your car. Don't use one that cuts out when starting the engine, as this sudden loss in power during boot sequence can mess with the camera.

Decent enough for the money. The next gen dash cams are here now or will be soon in the UK. Using the new Sony STARVIS 2 sensor. So if you're looking for absolute best then wait to get a STARVIS 2 based dash cam. Obviously that won't be £44. Viofo V139 Pro is the first I know of to use the STARVIS 2 sensor.

Something like this, but with GPS would be ideal!

looks identical to the road angel....cheaper though. 2K road angel is the sweetspot for quality apparently.

Just thinking of total costs then, so £90 for 2 cams(front & rear),
Also 2 sd cards high endurance??
    Any additional cabling?
    Thanks

You might need usb extension for the rear one (if you power from the front dashboard usb). (edited)

About to pull the trigger on this. Just wondering if I need a new SD memory card for this? I have a few laying around at home from old phones and cameras - will they do or do I need something newer nowadays?

If so any recommendations as to what to get would be much appreciated, thanks!

Any micro SD card should be fine.

The question is, which is better this or the m300?

Anyone who has this answer a question for me please? What is the voice control used for? Surely it just records all the time? Really not sure why you would ask it to record video.
