Review

Few things to consider before you go ahead:
  • Pay by credit card or PayPal (if the option available) so you could be protected in the case if something goes wrong
  • Likely you will have a non-UK charger, and you will need an adapter or an adapter will be attached to your order
  • Use a fee-free card and pay in USD to save a bit more
  • Delivery can sometimes take a long time

Doesn’t this company, like many in china, have to give the Chinese government a back door for surveillance?

Great price but would avoid for security concerns
    UnknownConcept's avatar
TP-LINK is Chinese owned, it's also well known that US companies provide backdoors to the CIA like Cisco, etc

Good device, though worth also mentioning the device only has Chinese language so will need to use something like Google Translate to set it up.

I didn't bother with getting plug adapters for the China plug (or the somewhat unsafe EU adapter it came with) - bought the below for £2 instead and used it with a suitable sized 12V 1.5A power adapter from an old external hard drive (original plug rated to deliver 1A).

I did have a look at this and some people have updated to Global version and it stopped 5GHz working properly.

What is this and what does it do?

wish it was possible to add a custom firmware on this - somethign with asus aimesh so i could add nodes to my existing mesh!

The ax3200/ax6s has openwrt support and is about £50.

You should be happy with it. I have 2 of these and they are brilliant.

any good for a Vodafone router ?
    dcx_badass's avatar
I use my Xiaomi AX6S/AX3200 with my vodafone connection, I have City Fibre based service and it works connected to the ONT with the credentials Voda supplied (and the VLAN set to 911), I flashed mine to OpenWRT though.

    Thank you Op.
Hello everyone, will this work with 1gb community fibre?
sorry I have never used anything like this, normally I stick with accessories that come with the network. Thanks again

It *would* but note that this is the Chinese model and you will need to use alot of Google translate to go through setup.

Using this device and I'm so happy, app is very smooth
    Aiadi's avatar
Did you have to set the region to China and have it all in Chinese though?
  9. Smithington's avatar
Not this model, but I've been using a Xiaomi AX6 for years. With my virgin hub.

Setting it up was a bit quirky as that was also in Chinese, but its been worth getting. I get far fewer dropouts and stronger signal throught the house.

I also like that with the app, I can independently control devices access and block specific URLs per device.

Was glad to see mine arrive in one piece as the box is quite thin with no protective padding whatsoever and only covered in a thin plastic bag with the label on. Evri driver also lived up to the reputation by chucking it like a ragdoll at the door.

Was it by this Cutesliving Store?

Sent from iPhone made in china.

Is this what I can use to connect to my virgin media superhub 3 to enhance WiFi. Currently WiFi signal through the house is atrocious.
    santosh89's avatar
I configured this router last week with virgin media hub 3, it is working great, I used to have issues in my garage connecting to boiler, no issues now. Only issue is language, all in Chinese. (edited)

I’m not a new customer but it’s showing as £43.19 for me

Will this work on Vodafone FTTP?
    Donny-Kong's avatar
I'm moving provider and they use Vodafone. Bought this as they charge £4 per month. This should pay for itself within the year and I get to keep it. Service hasn't gone live yet so can't test if it works with it but has the blue port.
  15. coolchow's avatar
Can this work with a 5g router like ZTE mc888?
    cigbunt's avatar
Can you put that in modem mode?
  16. garnerw's avatar
I want one of these it seems a bargain for the price?
    unclesmack's avatar
Yes, these are good for the price! I have had these but moved to Deco X60's due to Xiaomi home app issues specific to me
  17. ItchyCardHolder's avatar
Can you link two together for extended range? And use as just WiFi with BT home hub??
    moshispam's avatar
    Yes
  18. ipaq's avatar
It looks good and will probably perform well.

I have 2 Honor router 3's (Wi-Fi6) in a mesh and they are solid. My only criticism, no updates since installing 2 years ago but they were only £30 each (edited)

This or the Unifi AC Pro (Not the New One with Wifi 6)
  20. Technan68's avatar
Still using a hub 3 in modem mode with an Asus AC 88u , to get
    WiFi 6 I would need a hub5?
    jinsta's avatar
    No. Just WIFI 6 router

Not tri-band and no WPS on this low budget model
    Aiadi's avatar
Absolutely perfect for my use as an access point (where I don't need third band or WPS) for the budget.

What's the difference in this and the standard Sky one?
    ChimpMaster's avatar
Sky routers are bottom of the barrel tech. Especially the ultra fibre ones. And they can only handle 64 connections.

Maybe read this before you consider buying chinese products like Xiaomi and cheap android phones.

I heard that wifi on chinese units is often stronger than EU/UK cos of different power limits that have to be set by EU regulations? Is it notably better? Cos I have areas of house behind 2 solid brick walls that are always dead spots
  25. Feverdawg's avatar
Just noticed on the xiaomi site that it seems to be only dual core 1.0ghz and 256mb ram. The dual core spec seems low?

They seem to do an AX6000 model for a bit more that is 512mb ram and quad core 2.0ghz? (though not a tower unit)
