I use mine everyday, currently watching wimbledon on it but HDR remains broken with no official acknowledgement. If 4k HDR netflix, amazon streaming is your primary use then it's best to avoid this one. There's a thread showing how bad it is here c.mi.com/thr…tml (edited)

Bought this tablet 2 weeks ago and am returning it. Battery life is not great in my opinion - 5 hours sot is not great but whats more frustrating is the standby battery drain. have returned and will stay with my huawei tab without google - getting 14 hours sot on single charge.

    Replying to

light usage, a bit of browsing abit of light gaming (my 4 year old playing) and light youtube.
I actually tested the tablet out.
I use the matepad 10.4 - mainly for my son
I tend to play white noise for him during sleep
so set up both tablets to play a 10 hour white noise track thats been downloaded so not on youtube, just on the music player.
    Both screens off.
Matepad had 71% left after the 10 hours, xiaomi had 22% left.

People saying there is issues with hdr and netflix, I have a bog standard 1080p netflix account. So will it effect this too? Can we disable hdr if so? Thanks
    nomnomnomnom's avatar
In short: It only applies to HDR content. The lower Netflix subscription doesn't have HDR.

If Netflix makes HDR standard in the future, or they release HDR-only content, it will be an issue for all content that uses it.

It's also not just Netflix. Any HDR content is clearly a mess (probably being tone-mapped wrong). Netflix, Youtube, Amazon, Disney+, local file....it's all broken. Most applications don't give an option to disable HDR.

If you plan to use it as a media device, I'd skip it. It will be an issue at some point unless they fix it.

Gutted, as the price:features was pretty good. (edited)

As much as I prefer Android, for a tablet I would defo go Apple now - for the updates alone
    Rich44's avatar
As much as some like to bash Android for lack of long term updates. I'm still getting updates for my Galaxy Note 9 which is surprising.

Trouble with Apple when they decide your tablet is no longer good enough they kill its access to apps unless you jailbreak.
Have an elderly aunt who was given an ipad 2 just for Facebook & YouTube during pandemic. Only access to anything is via a browser not a single app store app for them all because its stuck on an older ios & unlike Google Apple cuts off access for older versions.

On top there's Apples abusive behaviour in causing ewaste by refusing to allow spares to be sold & worse actively suing people importing spares. No Apple is not the answer

Save your money, Xiaomi pad 6 is rumoured to be launching anytime soon
    ukez's avatar
Yeah, we can get some new and improved bugs instead. I wonder how much they will cost?

Nice price op thanks ordered. Hopefully I'll sell the ear buds and make this cheaper as possible to replace an aging galaxy tab S2. I wonder if this tablet would support pixel experience

Is this better than the recent Samsung deals for tablets in terms of value for money ?
    deleted102169's avatar
If this was available back in April at this price, I wouldn't have bothered with the Samsung deal, I would have gone for this Xiaomi.

Yes I ended up with a premium tablet at a reduced price care of Currys' 15% off code and £102 cashback, but only ended up spending a lot of that on the keyboard and case (and that was on discount).

I convinced myself that I would make full use of the all singing all dancing Galaxy Tab S8+ on the move, but in practise, it doesn't quite replace a laptop and for just media consumption, over £500 is too much to justify when the likes of this does the same task.
The 11" form factor should make this a useful device. The only shame is that it doesn't have expandable storage. (edited)

Shame the battery seems so bad. I still use the mipad4 pro and the battery is really good
    codfishsteve's avatar
I've only had it since Saturday, and I've had no problems with the battery.
  11. Tafkawac's avatar
Just put this up for £200 without all the freebies and you can have my money Xiaomi.
    sinfull's avatar
Definiately, but, at £269 alone it is a bargin, then consider that the earbuds bought seperately are £139, so to get both for £269, say no more.
  12. DiscoBotty's avatar
long shot, but how would this be for flying a DJI drone?
    Skwoddie's avatar
Lack of arms or opposable thumbs would prove problematic.
I recommend a human or at the very least a trained chimp.

I was holding out for the pro version but eventually went with the Samsung Tab S8 recently with the trade in offer. Looking at the problems this tablet seems to have, I'm glad I did. The Xiaomi is a good price, but for media consumption the battery and screen aren't great.
  14. Guy_With_Beard's avatar
I've just picked one up. If I can sell the buds on eBay for £100 it's a totally no brainer. I would have liked an SD card slot but hey ho.

I almost bought a Nokia T20 the other day but if I can sell the buds this is a no brainer for another £30.

Also the pc mode looks pretty cool.

Does anyone know where to get a good flip case? I've seen one on eBay for around £11. Is there anything else I should look at? (edited)

Battery life on my Mi Pad 5 has been excellent since I bought it about 6 months ago. about 40% better than the Samsung S5e (edited)
  17. deleted1482994's avatar
Finally picked up my pad 5 today. What a beauty. Runs super fast, screen looks fantastic netflix standard HD subscription looks brilliant. It's so good, I've already ordered another one. Hopefully am ebay fvf offer appears and I can offload the free buds to offset the cost somewhat.

    That is not the specs,
This one is only 33w charging

Nah not the S7 FE it isn't. Mi pad 5 beats it in benchmarks, and virtually every component is better on the mi pad. What makes you think s7 fe is better?? (edited)

Knew I should have waited! Took delivery of the previous deal on Saturday. That said, it's a brilliant Tablet and the buds are good too. Does anyone know what type of glass the screen is, and if I should get a screen protector for it or not? If so can anyone recommend screen protector.

Currently using mine and has been great since I got it. No problems at all with battery life and super great for mobile gaming for 120hz. I'm not a "professional" watcher in terms of watching streaming services, but I've found absolutely nothing wrong when streaming on Plex in terms of screen brightness or of quality.

This is an amazing steal for the price and would highly recommend it to anyone.
    Raiper's avatar
Are you on the latest update? Is Netflix supporting widevine L1 or L3?
  24. nomnomnomnom's avatar
Just returned mine from the last deal.

Netflix HDR is broken as mentioned above. I've had a Widevine issue already, although it seemed to 'fix' itself after a few restarts. Even though the display is 120Hz, it doesn't handle 24p content perfectly, when it really should - it was like pulldown was happening
  25. Raiper's avatar

Neither through the app nor browser. Does it even allow me to add any discount code where it says promotion. Did anyone have this issue and resolve it?

Try making a new account... I had the same problem
  28. drunksuperhero's avatar
I ordered, cancelled right away as I forgot to change the colour of the buds, went to re-order and couldn't because it won't let you re-use the HUKD25 code. Went through live support, useless as you'd expect, hoping after it's escalated they'll grasp the simpleness of fixing it and letting me order, but not holding my breath. Ugh!

Only saving grace is that there always seems to be a good deal. Maybe I could even use the HUKD30 I suppose. Should've just stuck with the iProduct-looking white buds apparently.

So no 4 k streaming for prime video or Netflix?

How much can you sell the freebies for ? Is it worth spending 300 to get the 30 off ?
    deleted1482994's avatar
Took my buds to cex got £61, so total cost £200. No other tab comes close for the price
  32. BigStart's avatar
This Vs a good a lightly used Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Core i5 2.60GHz 8GB Ram 256GB SSD Windows 11 Tablet for 180?

Can't decide hard one, guess you sell the buds so almost the same price.

What would you guys go for ?
    deleted1482994's avatar
Kinda two different devices. Surface Pro I'm assuming is like a laptop you can move around. This tablet on offer is good for watching netflix, playing games etc
