Converting a gas fireplace to burn logs/coal

We have a fireplace which has a gas fire inside which was disconnected from the gas supply a few years ago.The chimney and flue haven’t been touched. The fire itself had these fake coal bricks which absorbed the heat.
Is it possible to use this to burn real fuel at all ?

    No No and thrice No!!

Fire will need to be removed, gas supply cut well back, gas chimney flu inside chimney removed and vent on roof removed.

    Then…

Chimney swept from inside, coal fire rated fire basket put in place, new chimney pot on roof.

Thats assuming no one has removed the chimney internally in the loft etc.

Also, that white mantlepiece will be black in the middle before long and you’ll need to check the hearth is rated for the fires heat.

This above would be a minimum.

Thanks all.I’ve just realised that there’s a back boiler behind the fire too which could scupper my plans even more. The chimney is still there and there’s enough depth I think but it would have to be a small wood burner by the looks of things.
