Door Handle Latch

Managed to have my door handle put back on my door this week. It was refitted with two metal rods that hold the inside/outside handles together.

Below the handle is a lock as it's for a toilet.

Unfortunately this now means the latch gets stuck in the mechanism and clicks every time you open and close the door. Still works, but the latch click is annoying to say the least.

Anyone know how to resolve this and why it's happened please?
