El Capitan is the latest version of OSX that you can run on that laptop, and it's been classed as obsolete with no security updates since late 2018. Firefox 78 is the latest browser you can get for this OS which hasn't had security updates for about 4 years now.

Be very careful with what you do on this machine especially online.

I Personally would scrap Mac OS and install a recent version of a lightweight Linux distro. As well as improving performance you'll get security updates. Both of which will help make it much more usable in 2024.

Some good advice the only thing that seems to work on it is the DVD drive
