Is anyone with Shell or knows someone who's with them? I'm looking at the Ultrafast or Full Fibre.","comment":[{"@type":"Comment","@id":"https://www.hotukdeals.com/comments/permalink/51618470","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"KodaBear"},"datePublished":"2023-11-29T15:15:06.000Z","text":"Shell is one of the worst providers there is. The actual connection is fine since that's TalkTalk Wholesale via Openreach just like anyone else. But the routers they give are cheap and nasty, and the customer service is awful with a reputation for many billing errors too.
If you were happy with EE, Go back to whichever is cheapest out of BT/EE/Plusnet - It's all the same company, same UK customer service etc.
Your Sky connection should be fine, but their routers aren't great either and Sky/Now are one of very few that make it difficult to replace their router with your own. So if the BT Group's pricing isn't great for you at the moment then maybe you could go with another Openreach based provider like Vodafone (Tend to be very competitively priced, plus an extra £3/Month discount if you have a phone/SIM from them too) And invest in your own good quality router that you can use with them, and any future providers you go for down the line too.
If you do buy a router, you will need a VDSL Modem Router if you use a fibre to the cabinet connection (FTTC). If you get full fibre (FTTP) You don't need to worry about getting one with any kind of modem built in... Finally, if you do want to try and persevere with Sky and try to get your own router working with them, you will need to buy one that supports 'DHCP Option 61' to have any chance of getting it to work.
In summary, Avoid Shell, Consider going back to EE (or family), otherwise consider a new router."},{"@type":"Comment","@id":"https://www.hotukdeals.com/comments/permalink/51617660","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Gj9382"},"datePublished":"2023-11-29T13:45:33.000Z","text":"If you move to Shell then you will think Sky are great.
What is terrible about Sky? The connection with any other BB supplier will be the same as current one unless you have Virgin Media or have FTTP. Any FTTC connection will be using the same copper you currently have. So if you are having connection issues or speed issues then this won't be resolved by switching."},{"@type":"Comment","@id":"https://www.hotukdeals.com/comments/permalink/51620657","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"cecilmcroberts"},"datePublished":"2023-11-29T18:53:52.000Z","text":"Massive word of caution. Shell Energy was sold to Octopus, this includes the telecoms arm. Octopus don't currently have a telecomms arm and this deal expected to go through by the end of this year.
Example source below, if you google you will find alot more including one by another website I couldn't link from here.

Got Shell 500Mbps fibre around March this year. Zero issues - no WiFi signal issues, nothing.
Works like a charm, so I guess - lucky me?."},{"@type":"Comment","@id":"https://www.hotukdeals.com/comments/permalink/51621816","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Timbonagasaki"},"datePublished":"2023-11-29T20:35:54.000Z","text":"You could always take the £100 ish TopCashback, hope you are one of the lucky ones (like me) who haven't had a problem with Shell BB, then leave when they get sold to a new provider."},{"@type":"Comment","@id":"https://www.hotukdeals.com/comments/permalink/51630805","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"rambobambo"},"datePublished":"2023-11-30T18:03:48.000Z","text":"No problems with shell at all except once when it needed a reboot"}],"commentCount":15,"interactionStatistic":9,"articleSection":"Ask"}
