I've got a Miele vacuum cleaner and it's superb. Previously had a Bosch which was excellent too but the Miele despite being less wattage is actually much better. Really impressed. It's the only Miele thing I have, if I could afford a Miele Washer Dryer I'd have one in a New York second.

I'm fully with you on purchasing Miele. My current vac is a S400 model (I think). Top of the range at the time I think. Still going strong after 20+ years. I buy Miele bags from a reputable retailer. Did try 3rd party years ago but they were dreadful. I can also vouch for Miele service - after only about 6 months old the handle on the "tube" had a minor fault. I phoned Miele and a replacment arrived within a matter of days. However, I can't vouch that that would be the case 20 years down the line! Excellent post BTW.

"Sorry, they only have branches in Cornwall & Devon (Barnstaple and Plymouth)" At the risk of splitting hairs, neither Barnstaple nor Plymouth are in Cornwall :-) (But I get that they deliver there). Heated.

You're right, this one doesn't have the cutlery tray, it has the Miele Cutlery Basket. Seems to work well for me

Would like to add that this company is excellent. Customer service and in house delivery teams are excellent and very knowledgeable.

Latest which magazine have miele at the top of the realibilty tree and performance for the past 10 years, almost all my friends and family have switched to miele from the regular brands and will never look back. A Beko will cost 300 and last 2/3 years before failure, normally motor bushes or hinges, so in long run I would rather pay more for quality then change my machines every few years. All miele come with either 5/10 years warranty, there performance I find way superior especially vacuums, there vacuums dust retention and suction miles ahead of the competition. There honeycomb drum cleans better then most the competition, my sister in law had top range hotpoint and she donated some baby clothes to us, one had chocolate stain which her machine could not get rid, but our 10 year miele did. My point is miele are less likely to breakdown.

1duck

In all honesty, god knows, suction reduced to practically nothing. Replaced the filters with new original miele ones, even though the ones in it didn't look that bad, replaced the bag, checked for obvious blockages. Took it along to a service guy, who said that there was an issue with the motor. At which point I called it a day and just went out and bought a replacement. Miele were bugger all help and basically told me that i should have paid for extended warranty, I couldn't be bothered arguing with them at that point so I just cut my losses.

bonzobanana

I've never owned a Miele myself but have kept a eye on their reliability ratings, price and feedback out of interest. I linked to the trustpilot rating as this is feedback from a large sample of owners. I don't think I've ever had a cylinder vacuum go wrong and I guess there isn't much to go wrong with them as its just a motor with an on/off button. Even cheap and nasty models have not failed me. Uprights have been more problematic with belt issues etc I don't find them as reliable. The early cyclonic vacuums seem to need constant filter cleaning/washing. My point about Miele washing machines is while the bulk of them are reliable and deliver good service they still have a significant failure rate even if less than other brands and outside warranty the repair bills are extreme compared to other brands. To me the clever purchase would be for a LG appliance, more advanced technology, equal reliability, often superior wash performance. That wouldn't have been true 5 years ago though. I think LG have improved significantly and Miele have dropped slightly in quality and become much less competitive in pricing although in fairness I think its accurate to say their bottom end models have dropped in quality and their mid-range and high end models have just become far too expensive meaning none of their models really represent good value. Your last point states way better than LG, Hotpoint and Beko. Hotpoint are pretty terrible nowadays so no argument there. Beko for some devices have actually exceeded Miele appliance reliabilty but then some Miele appliances are brand slaps, fridge freezers etc. Beko are pretty great for budget appliances with reliability close to that of higher end brands. Yes they are slightly more prone to faults but repair costs can be very reasonable and they sell in such huge numbers that spare availability is normally good although major part failures may not be economic to fix. A £140 repair for a £200 Beko is obviously not worth it but a £500 repair on a £1500 Miele appliance seems much worse to me, it depends on how you look at it I suppose. LG for me are much better than Miele nowadays in my opinion on a quality/price ratio. There is no perfect machine though, however reliable on average you could still be in the 8-15% of owners who get a duff machine that fails that why I would also make sure a long warranty both parts and labour was included with the appliance. 5 years minimum.

Bavy

Have 3 miele vacuum cleaner, since 1990s non of them have broke down had throw them away because got bored of them and buy new, had 10 year guarantee and had warranty repair done within 3 days. Have a w1713 washing machine since 2006 still gong only door hinge dropped little bit but still functional, ordered various accessories over years and miele never charged me, can't fault them they way better then LG, hotpoint, Beko

bonzobanana

Lots of people receiving absolutely dreadful customer service from Miele UK as can be seen on that trustpilot link above. Even if you personally had a poor Miele vacuum and their customer service was good you can see a huge percentage of other people were not receiving similar customer service. I like Miele appliances but their quality is over-stated and often represents very poor value. I mean £1500 for a washer dryer with a 2 year warranty and absolute nightmare repair bills after 2 years for what is a product with merely ok reliability same as many other washer dryers. It doesn't make sense when you can get a LG with similar reliability and a full 5 year warranty for around £500 plus if anything better washing performance and much cheaper repair bills after the 5 years. It would just seem madness to me to choose a Miele. The LG is a damn site more attractive and modern looking too. Also surely there are better things you can do with that grand you have saved on the initial purchase and possibly hundreds or maybe thousands of extra pounds on repair bills if you keep the washer for over 5 years. Miele used to be the a clever choice for those who looked at the long term and based value over a product that lasts many years but I honestly don't think that is true today.

Do these come with any sort of warranty?

qwertychris

Yeah it's a fair point. I'm in a sizeable 3 storey house so rather than sit in it's box this one will be used on the bottom floor and the other one on the top two floors. So it will get some use. (However now looking at robot hoover for the ground floor maybe)

indyjukebox

I see, although that offer really doesn't apply to anyone else but you. And agree quite heavy. But it sits nicely on my stairs. Saying that someone upstream mentioned buying the turbo brush using the code and I thought that was pushing the envelope. But thanks to his spot, I managed to bag one for £50 off RRP. So thanks to who ever that poster was. (y)

pvd

haha I did actually explain earlier in the thread :). Basically my previous Miele died about 3 weeks ago and it wasnt covered by warranty (water damage!). When they told me they could not repair it, I was given a 20% loyalty discount if I buy another one, direct from Miele. I never got a code, they just said ring them up when I've decided what i want and they'll give me the 20%. So I was waiting for a decent offer to come up and then when this appeared, I rang up and they tried to apply the 20% discount but for some reason the lady said there was a problem with the code and it has gone through at 50%! With news of other people's orders being cancelled I cant believe it got through. As others have said it is a big beast, bigger and heavier than my last one, but I dont mind!

The EU rules around wattage don't apply to wet and dry vacuums, or commercial vacuums with a wide wand head. Here's a 1600 watt, 367 airwatt one for £200:- https://www.cleva-uk.com/vacmaster-power-50-wet-dry-vacuum-cleaner-vje1650sw However, wet and dry ones usually come with a very poor wand that flexes and is awkward to use and will stick to the carpet due to poor design, and the above does not look to be an exception.

The 2200 watt is noticeable in power and does have more suction, but the billzard tools have been modified to allow more air flow, when using the floorhead there isn't much difference in both machines, but when using the suction hose pipe you have to put the bilizard at higher wattage compare to the older machine

Yes, comes with a bag fitted already. Mine took less than 48 hours to arrive to my workplace. Yes, Scott Montgomery, I agree there's a limit to how excited you can get about a vacuum cleaner, but I always like getting something new, especially when it's replacing something 12 years old and much more plastic looking. It's hard to find the dimensions online, but this is definitely compact - maybe about a a foot and a half by a foot, or slightly bigger - and build quality looks good; the main metal tube is telescopic, which also isn't obvious....Thanks OP!!

Mechtup

We have one of these hoovers at work (not the same one, mind. We have the C3) and I prefer Henry’s over them. These are less reliable (not sure how old our one is but the cable you have to pull because it doesn’t do it automatically. Never had that with any Henry Hoover and I’ve used a lot of them since I’m a cleaner). Also a shorter cable (which probably won’t be a problem for most people though). The only advantages that I can think of are the multiple options and the smaller size.

I have this washing machine, it’s awesome, bought it brand new in November last year for £660 with 5yr warranty, but Miele we’re offering a £200 cash back at the time too, so it was only £460, but would highly recommended at this price.
