Henry Xtra HVX200 Vacuum Cleaner - £74.50 @ Tesco Instore - Rawtenstall

Made in the UK with decent quality parts, and can be repaired if it ever does break. It will outlast a cheap vacuum many many times over. We used to use them when I worked in hotels with constant use and abuse eight hours a day from the housekeeping girls and apart from the motor brushes and hoses everything survived. You are basically getting a commercial grade cleaner for less than £100.

Kenneth131

They don't really. Look at the cost of a Dyson, Samsung and Gtec all much more. Neumatic vacuum cleaners are on par if not better than a Dyson performance wise and they sell replacement parts for years as models rarely change too much. Being able to use just a lone screwdriver you can change the motor or brushes so it can be maintained where as a Dyson isn't designed to be maintained and is seen more of a disposable item when it stops performing as well, what a waste. So the Henry can be kept alive with OEM parts and is very robust. It just works.

mayhemayhem

I don’t get why these cost so much can someone care to explain?

Thank you ^^

I have the old type 1300W, but ppl have said the new type 620W has still good suction (look at feedback 2017-2018). I would try this new model and if it doesn't work well, amazon is easy with returns.

A Henry vacuum cleaner thread without the obligatory cocaine snorting gif?

Are these new models any good? Have a Dyson thats no good on our new pile carpet (stops the scrubbing head rotation). So looking to replace it for a none rotation vacuum, put of by the talk of the new EU models.

Henry Bagged Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner - £99.99 @ Argos (+ £5 Argos voucher)

Cheapest I can find
WhaleOilBeefHooked

Just to say, bear in mind this is intended to be a different model to the traditional Henry - an additional model in the range . It is slightly smaller capacity and lighter. You can still get the higher capacity one if you need it. All models have had to comply with the EU power regs and that is pretty consistent across all models now (i.e. same motor). Horses for courses in the domestic environment, but if you’re looking at robust vacuums for tradesman’s use, you’ll find a Henry model thrown in the back of the van. Good deal for this model.

RoryJoe

I picked up my wired Shark NV680UK for £139.99 last year as an Amazon Deal of the Day which was an absolute steal. Cordless have their use, they are great and convenient (I "borrowed" my parents cordless Dyson, it never ended up going back haha) but for me, owning a cat that sheds a LOT, wired is the only way. The cordless is nice for a quick once-over but If it was my only vacuum I'd get a wired Shark for sure. It's still loads more convenient than Henry because of how much lighter and more versatile it is. The 5 year warranty on them is pretty decent, based on the build quality of it I reckon it'll last year and years. Just don't be paying full price though, they do go on offer and when they do they're loooads cheaper. Get an alert set up on HUKD :)

Roger_Irrelevant

I know where you're coming from, I've had my Henry for about 8 years so far, it's heavy n wired but it just works. Whilst Sharks n Cordless ones seem good, initial outlay is about £2-300 n I know that after about 3-5 years it will need a new proprietary battery n I'll probably be looking at about what, £50, £80? for a new one. Too much outlay for me, n bad for the environment. If everything is going cordless then big batteries need to evolve to be standard, higher capacity n recyclable. :{

RoryJoe

I see where you're going with that, but no one puts a vac on to heat the house. We should still be striving for efficiency when creating new products, with the product's intended purpose in mind.

There are glaciers in my stomach, there is sleet inside my bones, I am colder than the contents of a million ice cream cones. I am freezing! I am freezing! From my bottom to my top, all my teeth are clacking madly and I cannot make them stop. Oh I cannot feel my fingers, and I cannot feel my toes, now my cheeks are frozen solid, and I think I’ve lost my nose. I am freezing! I am freezing! Thanks OP. I got the last one from Fishponds, Bristol last night!

Gareth79

My parents' one stopped working recently and I had to try quite hard to urge them to NOT get the "A2" model and be very sure that the motor rating was 1200W and not the weak 500-600W one! Then Boxing Day I stripped it down and turned out that the motor carbon brushes had just gummed up, I scraped and 'exercised' them and it's all back up and running!

ellbee

They should be - but nothing 'low powered' about my EU model. Just as fierce as my Dyson DC07 I've had for many a year.

smegio

Cold , it's not the one from 10 years ago that sucked a bit harder 🙄 Im joking, the Mrs bought this model and it's great, she usually destroys vacuum cleaners in around 6 months but this one is still going strong after a year. Built to last and bags hold loads

MadonnaProject

Is this the new low powered EU model?

scoon

Its Freemans (same website, different logo). Also you can use TCB for 5.25% back I purchased this last week from Currys for £199. Its ok but not quite as good as I had expected. It does perform very well for a cordless but its not as good as a normal Henry.

Mr.D.P.Gumby

No, it won't deter me at all, seems too many members are too quick to pull the trigger, I searched high and low for a deal for the xtra model that includes the Airobrush and hard floor tools and this was the cheapest I could find by some margin. Having said that I do see the deal posted the other day for the 620W model for £95 also on Viking Direct, if buying the tools separately it comes in a little more than this deal however it may well be worth the small extra cost for the extra 40W. Pub

Upright cleaners certainly have advantages on carpets. The total cost of ownership for Miele, Henry or any bagged vacuum cleaner is much less than Dyson even taking into account the cost of bags vs warranty.

tdlcraig

Each to their own I guess. I have a miele as my work vacuum. I do like them, but for my partner a Dyson is so much easier. It takes 5 seconds to empty. And to be fair needs emptying only once a month in my house. No need for bags. If you have deep pile carpets like I do dyson wins hands down. Plus dyson comes with a 5 year warranty. I'e had my one 7 years now. Only thing I've has to change is the head, which cost £30. No bags to buy ever, and is still really quiet. That' why small vacuum shops love selling cylinder vacuums. They make their money selling bags. Like I said each to their own. As long as your happy.

SuffolkLad222

The suction on uprights is hopeless in comparison. They rely on the brush power which just moves the dirt and if you're lucky it gets sucked up. I had uprights (mainly Dyson) for years before seeing the light. I chose Miele C2 (Henry's closest rival for price and function) and whilst I know what you mean about cylinder vacuums being slightly harder to use, once you master the technique, the results are infinitely better and take far less time. I was annoyed with myself for being fooled by Dyson marketing for so long. The hours I spent cleaning it, swapping parts, untangling stuff from the brush, emptying it (because the capacity is so small), not to mention the cost of replacing parts that frequently break (particularly the hose).

biketime08

Got a Henry really good product, you can go door frames and reach ceilings in most regular homes. Also it will pick most things don’t have to worry about damaging filters or emptying it every time you use it. Really they a a really good sized cable 10metres as well so you can get round a small Hse from one plug point.
