It's crap compared to my Scheppach HBS20 bandsaw..........except it is a Scheppach HBS20 painted blue.

The Aldi bandsaw is a chinese made Einhell who badge engineer for several makes. It is exactly the same as the Scheppach HBS20 sold by Screwfix for £109.

For £80 you will get a reasonably made little bench top bandsaw which will be transformed by fitting a decent blade as the one supplied is made of monkey metal and cheese. However a decent blade may be hard to find in the correct size.

Anyone who recalls the dreadful Burgess three wheeled bandsaws of the 60/70/80s will think this is a belter of a saw but, thanks to Herr Aldi's super returns policy, once you have used it and realise that it really is crap, you can get a full refund. Fantastic!

anybody got any comments re this item?

Only that I don't need one but I really really want one...

I'd want to check the blades , considering they're a consumable item you'd want them to be a standard length so you can get replacements. I've no idea what a 'standard length' is though.

Looks good for the price, as long as you know what to expect from it. With a 350W motor it'll be fine for cutting thin wood (e.g. plywood) and plastics, but as you edge over an inch thickness the blade will start to wander and the motor will start to slow so you'll need patience and a slower cut.

Like the aldi pictures of the man using the band saw with it perched on the dining room table.

    Proper bloke right there.

It's not really a chinese made Einhell. Einhell are an importer just like many others who buy from the chinese company that makes them. It's as much a Scheppach, Guild or other slap on brand importer as any other. If you wanted to find the real manufacturer name you'd have to look on alibaba.

True enough but Einhell import these Workzone bandsaws on Aldi's behalf and provide the warranty support should anything go wrong.

The only difference between the saws is the price and mark-up negotiated by the importer/brand and the length of warranty.

Were I in the market for a small benchtop bandsaw like these, the Aldi price and 3 year warranty would be a no-brainer.
