This isn’t a deal so much as an awareness raiser. If, like myself, you are of the bespectacled persuasion, wearing 3D glasses over your normal glasses can be both uncomfortable and very uncool. BUT... did you know that you can request clip-on 3D glasses instead of the full-on specs they usually dish out? I work in a Vue cinema and there is little to no publicity for their existence! I presume most Real D 3D equipped cinemas will have the same specs available and so it’s definitely worth giving your local cinema a shout next time you swing by for some eye-popping 3D shenanigans!

Not all heroes wear capes, some of us wear specs though. And the coolest? Well, the coolest get clip-ons!

2d sales outsell 3d everytime ... but they still keep pumping the crap …2d sales outsell 3d everytime ... but they still keep pumping the crap out. Why anyone wants to sit in a cinema wearing dark glasses for no effect and costing more is beyond me.

I've given up on the 3D Cinema experience.

Back to 2D & much prefer it.

Even if 3D cost the same as 2D, I'd avoid it

The thing with 3D is that it has the capacity to elevate the cinema experience, but the form hasn’t been mastered and the darkening effect has been left unresolved since its inception. The 3D in The Force Awakens, Ready Player One, Avengers: Infinity War, The Hobbit even was at times breathtaking, and wholly immersive! Unfortunately the hindrances, the longer they are left unresolved, threaten to kill the medium before it ever truly comes alive in its full glory. The concept of 3D is bloody brilliant, the reality of it currently is just a bit shoddy. Nevertheless, having clip-on specs is handy for those who do persevere with the 3D experience and have been encumbered with speccy eight eyes and four arms for the past decade or more

3D movies are still a thing?

Yup, they are, and it’s been over a decade now so I reckon they’re here to stay. Like ‘em or loathe ‘em, you’ll enjoy them much more with the right pair of specs!

My local odeon also do these (you get offered a choice) but I find them rather flimsy and difficult to put on.

I have been using clip ons I got from Amazon years ago and they are very good, cost about £4 or so.

And to answer the post above - yes the standard 3d specs fit over your own perfectly fine, Just not as comfortable. (edited)

As a new spectacle wearer I was thinking only this morning 'I wonder if the 3D glasses fit over specs?' so a very relevant post
  7. Mebster's avatar
The guy hasn't posted a deal for us all to discuss the pros and cons of 3D movies and whether they're still a 'thing'. It's about raising awareness of more comfortable 3D glass being available for people who wear specs and 'choose' to watch 3D movies.

Honestly sometimes it not worth reading comments here because they're full of completely pointless posts from people who have too much time on their hand.

I'm not a huge fan of 3D movies but if I do go and watch one, I'll definitely give your suggestions a go. Thanks buddy

Warning, depending on glasses frame thickness these can scratch lenses
  11. Quickblood's avatar
Good to know. I recently got rid of a pair I bought from ebay that I'd I scratched quit badly.
I do wonder why they're marketed as disposable, they should really give you a case and encourage you to reuse them. (edited)

Just get 3D contact lenses instead. The drive there will be more fun than the movie

Heat, do love 3d. Been picking up cheap 3d blu rays. The Martian and original Jurassic park in 3d is amazing. Don't do cinema anymore as it's ridiculously expensive nowadays, although I'll make an exception when John wick 3 is released next year.

3D is great with the right film: for instance Avatar. Where it was used with subtlety. However it always seems to be used in a completely 'in your face' way with children's cartoons which I think has given the medium a bad reputation.

    Speccy six eyes, surely?
Unless you are an alien and naturally have four eyes to start with?

Really disliked 3D movies with my glasses.... Here's hoping these make 3D movies great again (m3mga?) Heat!
  24. DCFC79's avatar
What a good post, have some heat, really uncomfortable with the 3D specs over your own glasses. Not seen a 3D film for years now as don't see the point when I felt the whole film was in 3D.
  25. marshall-stephens's avatar
In addition to the ‘darkening effect’, a lot of consumers expected 3D to be ‘pop out’ effects rather than increased depth in the images (which is what the curved screens are supposed to achieve without the requirement for glasses). We still have 3D TVs (the last one’s Samsung produced, so they were a bargain price-wise) and do watch something in 3D if it’s available, the kids love it.

Op. If you work of Vue. Can you ask why they don't do these for IMAX?

I've been using clip on 3d glasses for years I got on eBay. But never found an IMAX pair

For truly immersive 3D you should try watching a 3D movie using PSVR (yeah …For truly immersive 3D you should try watching a 3D movie using PSVR (yeah not many people realise PSVR supports 3D Movies)No colour loss like watching a 3D movie at the cinema or on a 3D TV. Also means you can buy the 4K TV you want without having to worry about losing 3D

I was going to say, 3D movies on a VR headset look fantastic. I have a Daydream headset, but the only way to get 3D movies is to convert them to a digital format.

The last movie i watched was in 3d and i think it added to the experience. But I do object to paying extra for it. I reckon most people's issue with 3d is not that it exists but that the technology hasn’t matured yet. We've had 3d effects for 100 years it's going nowhere. They just need to get their act together with the tech - especially the motion blur.

One of the reasons 3D is still around and used in nearly every big film is for countries that don't have as tight regulations on pirating films, distributers can choose to release the film only in 3D. Using the two images on the screen, and requiring the glasses prevents people from recording the film etc.

Have you not wondered why people seated around you are not wearing them? They do not work in a 2D film.

No effect - stop talking rubbish.

Much more comfortable and less filmsy IMO
