sorted byInteresting, each to their own. On balance, I've had both since launch and play Series X daily, whilst my PS5 has been used a handful of times for Miles Morales and Ratchet and Clank. Everything else has been Xbox
Yes because it is Christmas last weekend shopping.
Pro models will DEFINITELY happen. Unquestionably. Microsoft moved at least 8M X1X while Sony sold 20M+ PS4 Pro's.. Sure, some of those were purchased INSTEAD of a base model, but a good proportion were purchased by early adopters like me who upgraded their base consoles.
More powerful mid-gen refreshes and slim revisions are such a huge moneymaker, they're here to stay. Personally, I welcome it. I get the excitement of a new console every 2-3 years now instead of every 7-8.. (edited)
I'm gonna wait for the elite... cos I'm an idiot 🤪
I have and love both consoles. Always been a PS gamer but forza is incredible and game pass is great value. The headset is also superior thanks to Dolby support. However, the PS5 controller beats the Xbox one hands down. They both have their positives and negatives in my view.
If you haven’t upgraded to ultimate yet, you can redeem up to 36 months of Xbox gold on your account and then when you upgrade to ultimate you’ll pay £1 for a month and then get a 1 to 1 conversion giving you 36 months of ultimate (edited)
These new consoles will already support 8K, so I can't see them doing mid-gen refreshes this time. I could be wrong of course, but the main reason they did them last time was to support 4K displays.
I can see them doing a reworked version (slim?) with a better form factor if nothing else… I don’t like the “look” of either current gen system - not that anyone buys them for their looks! But to me there’s nothing worth spending 500+ to play…yet… and we are already a year in…
I massively regret buying mine.
You might struggle.. To play something on a Series X, you actually have to own one, rather than concocting a story about buying one by mistake and hating everything about it, but not wanted to sell it for the exact same amount you paid.
Utter twoddle. Get back to your PS5 fanboying and leave genuine gamers alone to enjoy ALL consoles equally.
It depends what you mean by "support" 8K. Sure, they can technically output an 8K signal, but there won't be any games of note that run in 8K on these consoles.
The main reason I could see a mid-generation refresh happening is to bump the framerates at 4K. Halo Infinite has a 4K120fps mode but doesn't come close to actually hitting that target, so a slight bump in power might get them to that aim at least.
Halo doesn't really have a 4K/120fps mode though. It's capped at 1440p but rarely ever hits that target, it's closer to 1080p with frequent drops to 720p as well. Even 120fps in the vast majority of games is never locked.
Pro models COULD still happen, I just think they're far less likely this time. Plus MS already have two seperate SKUs with the Series X and S. I don't think publishers would be too pleased that they're releasing yet another variant of their console that they're forced to support.
Slim models are guaranteed, Sony have been doing them ever since the PS1 so it'll be no different here. Even MS have done them since the 360, it's a natural revision to reduce costs and improve form factor and hardware reliability. (edited)
Let's agree to disagree
Agreed.
I love my Atari Jaguar.
Nah, I foolishly got it with 2 years of Game Pass. Stuck with the piece of junk.
Cool story, thanks for sharing
Order this first then cancel, easy solution
Digital Foundry's analysis found Halo Infinite bottomed out at 1564x960 resolution, so I'd be interested to see where these "frequent drops to 720p" have been documented.
But you've kind of just emphasised my original point anyway, so... ...er, yeah. 8K support and no mid-generation refresh.
Same here, keep the ps5 for the odd exclusive, but doesn’t get used much. I find game pass keeps delivering the goods, more than I have time to play anyhow.
If you pick one of these up don’t forget to load up with 3 years of gold and do the £1 conversion trick. Also check out ms rewards to get free Xbox credit.
It's just rumours at the moment
There’s a few threads on it, but basically if you don’t have game pass you can get an offer on the dashboard to convert your existing gold subscription 1:1 to game pass ultimate for £1. So load up on the maximum gold, which is 36 months (watch out for the extra months they give you if you are trying to do this with 12 month codes) and pay the £1.

Where in the UK are you? I've been helping friends get these. I've a couple left I'll sell at retail. Trying to help kids have them for Christmas. Still sealed and full warranty.
That's because you'll have to charge the PS5 controller every 10 minutes if you want to use it... LOL Might as well have made it a wired controller at that rate!
That's why I went with digital versions of both consoles. If a time comes that the Series S is utterly pants on my Sony 10bit telly (which it isn't.. the telly polishes the apparent turds folk keep seeing) then when the SX drops it may be (or is likely to be anyway) purchased so I can polish the games up a touch and put my old games back in 😬
Sit on the fence and save £200 by grabbing the series S.. it's playing the same games.. I got one so I can still enjoy the Gamepass library and to wait for PS5 stock that I didn't have to pull my truck over and slam refresh for.
Sony dually emailed me and asked if I wanted one.. so it's had it's updates and once the wee man goes home this weekend will be plugged in so I can check out my T150 and VR on it (got the adapter on release) and enjoy my new PSPlus games haha! (edited)
Snap though Don't think I've even had the PS5 on an handful of times (other than watching Apple TV through it) can't foil paying £70 for the first party games & didn't manage to drop on with Tesco for the Miles Morales offer.
I actually own an LG CX and the biggest difference for me is easily the HDR. Yes, higher res stuff looks crisper but unless it's below 1440p I struggle to tell any difference. Even 1080p is acceptable to my eyes although it does look a bIt blurry on a high end OLED.
PS Plus is great value. They are looking to combine PS Plus with PS Now and also access to back catalogue of PS1, PS2, PS3 etc. early next year.
Glad to hear it. Sony XH92 for me (they're still promising the proper update to line it with their latest range.. they better deliver or its trading standards and a free upgrade for me haha 🙃)
In all honesty, the HDR shines like a monster on Disney+ it's immense for the newer Marvel stuff! And the colours.. ooh.. 10bit makes a huge difference. Tis HDR10 and variants using the 10bit after all!
I did make the mistake of going cheap beforehand.. but realising depth was non existent, I swiftly returned and spent money on it!!
Agreed. I almost wish the S was an X.. but there's no drawback right now and in all honesty, you should grab the SS second hand for the dirt cheap prices. I got mines new last year for £265 with two pads mind you
I do like the pad. But I have both consoles so I can play Forza, and I also like Gamepass. At least MS allowed me to keep my old pads. Sony not so much 🙃 (edited)
Thanks for the unfunny attempt at humour. Keep trying.
Ha, that's wishful thinking. I'm predicting the subscription price at RRP will be £120 a year. Sony doesn't give a damn about the playerbase, only money..
Speaking as a PS5 owner who subscribed to both PS+ and PS Now.
Totally agree.
