I would have a look online as HUKD is notoriously bias, but everything I've read online points to OLED being the closest successor to plasma. All the screen burn problems seem to have died out in the latest couple of years (tech is installed to counter it for most users), plus the darkness of the blacks is just not comparible.
Samsung Qled seems to do more vivid colours, but doesn't quite hold up on the blacks.
OLED 55 inch deals keep popping up circa £900 and feel like the way to go, unless you are desperate to go to 65 or 75 inch, then they get prohibitively expensive.
All set up. Weighs an absolute ton! I'd arrange for another bloke to pop round on delivery day if possible, the wife just about managed. Build quality seems really good, it just feels expensive if that makes sense. Still playing around with the settings but picture seems really good already in cinema mode. No light bleed I can see but that is in a bright room.
Not the best on the smart features front. I updated when it suggested and now the plex app says 'no longer supported' bit worrying for the future of other built in apps...
Netflix seems a bit slower when scrolling through titles than on my skyq box but it does support Dolby vision and looks slightly better than the sky app.
Overall very happy for £699.
I ordered on Tuesday and it arrived yesterday so 6 days total. (edited)
Show me a 77 inch oled for £700
Yes it does support 120 and is 2.1 (edited)
Panasonic HX940 (TX-65HX940, TX-75HX940) TV review | TechRadar
OUR VERDICT
The HX940 lacks a few features we might have hoped to find on a flagship LCD TV – including some key video streaming apps and next-gen gaming features. Its clever new backlight system, though, ensures that picture quality is good enough to make the HX940 seriously worth considering for anyone after a big screen on a mid-range budget.
FOR
AGAINST
BTW THIS IS A VA PANEL
Buy it if...
Most TV brands only back either Dolby Vision or HDR10+, despite content being available exclusively in both. It’s great to find 75HX940 supporting both, so that you get the best quality available from every source.
The HX940’s sound is powerful enough – despite only having two channels – to do a good movie soundtrack justice, meaning you don’t have to rush into buying an external sound system.
Don't buy it if...
Even though the 75HX940 delivers better black levels than you’d expect from an edge-lit 75-inch screen, there’s more greyness around in dark scenes than you’d get with an OLED TV (or some premium direct-lit LCD TVs).
The VA panel in the 75-inch HX940 loses colour and contrast if viewed at more than a 25-degree angle. This could be an issue for rooms which require awkward sitting positions.
Couldnt find anything in the usual reviews, Techradar etc. Found the above left by a reviewer on Richer Sounds. May be as simple as that.. The Sony I currently have used to go light dark light dark as you watched. I did find a way to switch it off. Its possible that this Panasonic is much more subtle than that. This seems like an awful lot of tv for the money but there are so many to chose from. Even cheap 55 inch oled's to be had. What to do.
Back light Bleed was my biggest concern and I can confirm there is a small amount in the corners in a fully dark room. It is a significant improvement over my old Sony though so I am happy. In normal lighting conditions it's not noticeable at all.
It has all the usual aps including YouTube and apple TV. The aps are all very responsive and snappy.
The only hdmi 2.1 feature is the one that switches automatically to the low latency gaming mode.
HD content still looks good. Sd obviously not so great as it is a large 75" TV. I don't have an aeriel connected to test free view.
I'll let you know my thoughts once ready, hopefully later tonight!
Been watching on Netflix premium so 4k HDR.
How are black levels? Any light bleed in the corners or along the bottom? Best to check with room as dark as possible watching HDR content. That's where I see it most on my Samsung.
How does it look in HD and SD on freeview mate?
Also are all the normal apps there like apple TV and YouTube, I heard the only one missing now is now tv?
Is the Web browser any good?
Sorry for all the questions. (edited)
Deea, thanks for your update.
Can you check if it has a web browser app and is it any good.
Thanks in advance.
I’ve replaced a top of the range Panasonic plasma from a few years ago and I’m really pleased with it. The sound is terrible but the picture is surprisingly good when compared to both what it replaced and also an LG C8 Oled TV I have.
Dilemma is if I return it they're OOS so might just get my money back and no TV. wondering what else they can do? Anyone been in this situation before. Also box was left outside to take to the recycling centre tomorrow but strangely someone took it.didnt expect that. Not sure if they expect it back in a box too.
TIA
It's easy when you're in store with 50 tv's in a row with boosted demo videos to get distracted or pushed onto a more expensive model. But that's not how you'll ever watch TV.
So... Hot deal for a huge TV from a reputable brand and as good a warranty you can get!
So many good tv deals, damn this is just hard work now . So should I get this or oled or qled or go on holiday to Majorca
Please do post a 75-inch TV with a 5 year warranty from an established manufacturer with those options for £700. I tried, but perhaps my search game is off. (edited)
300 when added to basket. You have to remember too this was a £2.5k tv at release.
Panasonic TV's are lovely sets, just stay away from the low end Vestel made units. I have a FZ802 and the picture is stunning. With the specs this has I'm sure you will be pleased. (edited)
Have a set up like this with a 65" and that initially felt MASSIVE. But truth be told - best decision ever - I even said next TV will be a 75". You get used to it very quickly and it feels SUPER immersive, but it will be HUGE (epic though)
Well said! I hate it when people do that... Adds nothing to the conversation...
screen burn or room that isn’t suitable for oled
This is a Panasonic
Not everyone wants a oled
Nothing would for that size /prices it’s like saying a mini is not as fast as a Ferrari
Not yet. Always wanted a big tv like this one. My nearest Costco is quite a trek but going to take a spin and purchase on site. You probably read the reviews techradar.com/uk/…-tv (might be a slightly later model but def same processor) Am pretty sure it was in the region of £2.5K on release.
A bit bigger!! Hope you have a spare room, for you, not the TV
That’s you’re choice my next tv will be another VA FALD (edited)
Reviews on this suggest the black issues are not going to be any worse and the upscaler/ picture processor is going to be better. Plus I can have Disney plus back without reverting to my firestick. And it's massive 😁. Ordered, will review it in a week.
and also in the process of buying
Thanks OP
I probably should have! Ah well it'll fit somewhere, nothing a little room rearagment
Should be fine, Im about 2.2m away I recon, suppose I'll find out!
Haha luckily I do! Turns out they didn't stock them (although I did get an 18" pizza and a huge box of chocolate chip shortbread) so ordered online. (edited)
Mine's on order but probably going to be a few days yet. From what I've read the edge lit isn't too much of an issue. Image quality seems to be really good for what it is and at the end of the day I'm the kind of person who usually leaves a t.v on its default settings. Motion is an important one for me and apparently this does that really well, something some OLED's suffer with.
Oh god! told the mrs 'its a bit bigger' 😬 (edited)
wtf I didn't realise the MASSIVE DIFFERENCE
I think it's way to big for our small living room
