Is this about half the volume of the standard one? Fancy this for either top ups, small bbq or using as a searer

If you don't need the compact, your local Lidl might have an alternative in atm

Buy a large tin of baked beans...cut top and bottom off...bin or eat contents

Hey presto you have the above for a fraction of the price and does the exact same job (lived off BBQ's when I lived in Cyprus for 4 years and this was how the locals did BBQ's) (edited)

Im actually someone who buys the right tool for the job. Im all for cost saving, but trying to compare this to a tin of beans is ridculous buddy...

I understand that Weber stuff is good. But at the end of the day, I don't see what's special about a product like this. I can't see what makes it better than other brands. Paid £4 for a different brand, purchased from B&Q or Homebase. I don't say this is expensive, but is 4 times the price I've paid for mine. Yes, it may make sense to buy a Weber BBQ, as they clearly do solid ones. But this is just a tin with a handle, all of them should do the same job and should last more or less the same time... If you are ok within the rust get a cheap one. If you want one that doesn’t get a Weber. Just pointing out there is a quality difference and it’s not just inflated pricing for the name only.

Some of the mental discussions taking place here make me want to buy two and throw one in the bin!

I get there are cheaper alternatives like, but at the end of the day, this is a deal for those that want it, if you don’t then it’s not a deal for you - you can’t argue against someone’s price point

This seems like a very good price for the product that it is. If you want one, buy one. If you don’t, don’t. There will always be difference of opinion, cheaper alternatives, and people who learnt a trick or two when they lived in another country, and good for them. But come on, let it go. Buy one or don’t; it’s £16.

Being a bit stupid but I don't think I will get enough coal in this to fill my BBQ.do I just put some coal in let it do it's business and then pour on top of unlit coal?

I've never owned a 47 but I think I'd still go for the bigger one, particularly if you can find one at a good price nearer the end of BBQ season. I think I got mine for about 12 quid in B&Q end of summer clearance a few years back You don't have to fill it for it to do it's job properly so no such thing as too big unless storage space is an issue.

It's a great price. Remember, this will fit inside a go-anywhere as well on your travels. If you cut the grate in two, you can get all you need for a BBQ away from home in there, coals lighter cubes etc. +1

Btw is there anything that i could use at the bottom of a chimney in order to protect the floor? I once had the garden tiles damaged due to the extreme heat
    BraddersJ's avatar
I and I think most people put it on the ash grill/rack and light (not the one the food goes on, the one below)
Is there a reason you couldn't do that?

I've started to use a cordless heat gun to light my BBQ, takes around a minute or so but I've not used my Weber chimney since.

With my chimney, I use an inflatable charger for a really quick blast but I have an old desk clip fan that I leave on if I want to walk away. Speeds things right up! (edited)

these things should cost no more than £6 as they are just metal

Started using these recently and my word, how did i live without them . light up, let it do its thing and 20 minutes later, in the bbq ready to cook. just need to work out good quality coals which heat up quick but stay hot for longer.

Morrisons are selling BigK restaurant grade 15kg bags for £22. Very good stuff. It was even reported to be scanning at £17 last week but nowhere local to me had any stock left.

Excellent price, especially considering that this must be peak season/demand.

Thanks for sharing. Looks perfect to use with the Smokey Joe so ordered.

Sainsburys have their own decent stainless steel regular size starters for £12.

Why do chimney starter deals always get so much heat? They're cheap and presumably if you have a chimney you already have one!

For anyone who has a charcoal bbq and doesent own a chimney starter like this, buy one, no Better way to light a bbq and you will love it.

Thought these chimneys were a waste of time until I got one, game changing, paid £23 at Amazon for the standard size one and makes bbq’ing effortless.

These are brilliant items, we looked at the cheaper alternatives (John Lewis, Sainsbury's and one in GoOutdoors) but the quality difference is very noticeable. We have the ProQ one (has two handles which makes it a bit easier to empty out) but the Weber ones are very good too
