    Nice phone Mr Switch

Will UK bank apps etc work on this?

Someone linked an app or website to test this.. I can't find it. Can you help?

    Thanks

I have this phone and installed the Xiaomi.eu ROM and have Lloyds and Halifax banking apps all running. Netflix and Google pay work too

Thought I would try wondamobile when this was listed previously, ordered it on Wed and was delivered on Mon! No additional charges. Will definitely use them again (edited)

I don't blame you for searching for an alternative to the S22 Ultra . The camera is excellent but I seem to reach for my 2019 P30 Pro far too many times. I hope one day, Huawei will be allowed back in the market.

If it's still working for you, and you have no reason to change up, if you arent bothered about lack of updates, then yeah, just keep going for now.

Can't recall, is there any band issues with Vodafone 5g on this? Or other networks?

Na, band 20 for 4g and band n78 for 5G are present

Considering Xiaomi are deemed as a fairly budget brand and the price point of this particular phone, is this one meant to be on par with the latest (at the time) iPhones, Samsung's etc?
    Baggin92's avatar
Xiaomi have budget phones but in the last 3-4 years they've managed to challenge flagships from brands like Samsung's Galaxy with their ever improving premium offerings like this. Do you "have" to change to the EU rom, so scared about bricking it during that process, or would UK banking apps and Google Pay etc all work out the box from Wonda?
    cartwheelbob's avatar

Yep just ensure to set gpay as the default contactless payment and also hce wallet
  7. RudeYute's avatar
Those using xiaomi.eu ROM on this, how are you updating? The latest version is not a Fastboot version, so can you flash with TWRP without losing data?
    RudeYute's avatar

    Replying to

So you know, I found that only this TWRP would actually decrypt the internal storage:
    3.6.2_12-Mi11Ultra-Mi11Pro_v3.7_A12-star-skkk_7bb5f333.img

I did have some issues with other TWRP, including one which seemed to kill the ROM, so I could only get into Fastboot (and boot recovery from there).
  8. soullukas's avatar
I received my phone and have unlocked it. When trying to install the EU zip file on internal storage TWRP is not recognising internal storage and is showing 0mb
    Could anyone help?
    RudeYute's avatar
    Sounds like what I experienced:

Anyone else still get the Google Wallet message about the phone being rooted last week? I still can't use NFC.

The Bonus of these Chinese phones is you don't get the American spying on you.
    simandoo's avatar
Oh dont worry, the NSA still work with GCHQ to ensure everyone in the uk is spied on whenever they do literally anything online. And it's all stored for future reference too, just in case they need dirt on you. (edited)

Ohmigod ohmigod ohmigod. Beautiful beautiful beautiful. Chinese ROM with Google play makes this particular phone literally unbeatable. Now I just gotta sell my pets, cast iron Chinese tea pot and my soul to afford to purchase this bad boy

Bit on this, thanks to for posting and for mentioning they've used them before.

Love this phone its beautiful, goes toe to toe with Samsung's flagship from last year (and fares well against S22 Ultra too).

For anyone who may be a bit iffy as to the Mi phones .... I purchased a brand new 6/128 Mi Max 3 in 2018 from AliExpress for a grand total of £170. I didn't expect it to last beyond a couple of years, if that, and I'd have been happy if that's all it lasted for. I'm still using it in August 2022! 😁 (edited)

Currently using Mi 11(not ultra). Beautiful phone. Everything works. This is a bargain for the ultra. Mi 12 is already here since March, and 12 Ultra is expected in September. (edited)
    Maaark's avatar
12s ultra has already been released in China (early July) but not going to be released outside of China. Xiaomi.eu will be making a custom ROM for it though.

Because it is China only, import prices are gonna remain pretty steep though - think it's around a grand at the moment from wonda.Edit: It is £879 (including charger and cable) at the moment for equivalent model.

Does seem an upgrade, especially if battery life is better and less overheating than 11 ultra, but not value at the higher price imo. (edited)

How difficult is to convert it to EU rom? Is there any benefits to do so? (edited)

I think you have to wait a week to unlock the bootloader. Honestly, I don't like the MIUI skin. Xiaomi's implementation is worse user experience.

I'm confused have seen camera comparison with pixel 6 pro and the picture looks much more sharper then xiaomi? I think i will wait for pixel 7 pro :/ (edited)
    Maaark's avatar

    Replying to

Nah, camera performance unfortunately isn't affected by installing Xiaomi.eu ROM.

I've found the best results with 50MP mode for photos, but still similar quality to partner's pixel 6 (regular).

Also telephoto up to about x10 is decent, as is ultra wide although panning when filming does highlight the slight distortion effect you get towards the edge of picture in this mode.

The basic video mode I'm not a fan of, but pro mode does a good job (I think better than pixel 6, but haven't spent long comparing in depth on large screen and I'm guessing 6 pro would excel here compared to 6), with manual wb so it isn't oversaturated with vivid colours and doesn't keep changing dramatically if you're moving whilst filming, and sometimes manual iso (auto doesn't seem great at altering to low iso in very bright sunlight, or high iso at night). Great image stabilisation. Still, a few secs to set up right each time, which isn't great when you want to try and film something in the moment.

There is definitely a feeling that software could do better given the hardware. May try a paid-for app from play store, but overall, I'm happy(ish) with the video side of things.

One flaw that doesn't seem software related is that the camera can be prone to flaring/glaring, not sure of right word, but the loss of info surrounding very bright things like Sun and lights at night, which apparently is better in 12s ultra due to different lens coating. (Haven't compared this to pixel though tbf.) (edited)

Ordered the 12GB version on Sunday and mine has arrived today. Impressive service for an imported phone.

From Luxembourg but still an impressive service as you say. They probably have a depot in UK as well but I am not sure.
  32. Angelika_Stachura's avatar
Has anyone found a way to insure these phones in the UK? I found insurance that is happy with the mobile purchased abroad but the model has to be available in the UK... I really want the 12s ultra but not being able to insure it stops me
    RudeYute's avatar
Nationwide Bank covers my Mi 11 Ultra. With them, you simply put in an IMEI and it find the model, so wonder if Mi 12 Ultra would work also - let me know if it does, and i'd be tempted too!
  33. Mikey82's avatar
Managed to unlock and flash it myself (well, with the help of a youtube tutorial) and really like the phone. Definitely worth the time and effort.

Ordered this yesterday and I then 6 hours later broke my current phone. Eagerly awaiting its arrival, but slightly concerned about the process to flash the rom and install the European version.

Has anyone had any experience with an 11 ultra that has been flashed from Chinese version to European?
