What's the customs situation like with Gearbest? Do they declare the full value of the phone? (I'm tempted...but not sure whether it is much of an upgrade over my Note 5)

I'd agree if it were a £300 phone, but at this price, personally, I'd always go with the savings. This is just me, and others will definitely prefer the UK price you've just linked to. I've no problem at all with that.

But £25 is about 20% the value of whole purchase so the cheaper the better I think

The deal posted yesterday for the same phone is better IMO. From UK, it has a guarantee, definitely no customs and arrives in a couple of days, got to be worth the extra paying £25 for. https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/redmi-note-7-4gb64gb-15359-redmi-note-6-pro-4gb64gb-12799-ebuyer-ebay-3251887

Another discounted product on Mi UK site. I think it's great price for this phone for UK market with warranty and fast delivery.

Tried this phone from Amazon. I was really disappointed with it. Poor signal quality and WiFi strength. Sent it back. Bought the mi 9t last week, one word amazing :D

I managed to buy this phone in the blue colour few months ago from ebuyer for £150-160. Great phone, snappy performance, really camera, good battery performance with a sharp screen. If you want a nice thin case, check this one out: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B07KC8MNRS?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

And no warranty.

Also £145.99 from Toby deals if you don't mind a longer wait

I must say this is a excellent phone and you get a transparent gell case to go with it too. Delivered by royal mail order Tues morning received Friday morning. I think it was dispatched from Paris.

Having owned both I preferred the normal Mi 8 to the pro version. The only difference is the in screen fingerprint and smaller battery on pro version. For me the fingerprint is a lot quicker on the back and battery life is better for obvious reasons. Screen & camera is exact same.

what should i do @Mrswitch? I need a new phone. Pocophone is £230 with UK warranty. there's a sale on the Redmi K20 Pro, Honor View 20, Mi 8 Pro, etc. I like the idea of getting a Pocophone because it has a headphone jack and expandable memory. Should I pay £230 or are other phones nicer? Any new phones or sales I should wait for instead?

China Version which the seller has opened, unlocked bootloader and flashed "Global ROM" onto. They're common but rarely posted nowadays. The listing says it's an official Global ROM but I'd be doubtful. The "about phone" screenshot< is the same as lots of other sellers. "Global Beta" and shows "Mi 9T Pro" as device name, which can apparently be edited within prop files. Fake/vendor Global ROMs used to be very prevalent years ago before Xiaomi established "Global Version" phones.

Ye so what's this 'Global ROM' business all about then?

Correct me if I'm wrong but this would have an unlocked bootloader which means Google pay won't work and it doesn't have Widevine l1 which means you won't be able to watch Netflix or Amazon prime videos in full hd

Quite the reverse; the Pocophone has a sturdy metal frame inside (having changed a screen). This on the other hand, is glass with aluminium. It lasted 2 weeks in my daughter's pocket (£300+ down the drain as a screen costs £180!). Gone back to a Poco!

Pfffffffft. I wish this was true; I'd have bought it the minute I saw it. Unfortunately it's more like €450! :(

And without any signal on your phone, that's the important bit for me. In work the building is like a faraday cage - so having wifi calling then allows me to use my phone as normal, once you have it - you then understand the advantages

WhatsApp relies on the person you're calling to have WhatsApp and internet connection too. WiFi calling is just a traditional phone call over WiFi, so landlines and anyone without WhatsApp can be called too.

I don't get what this Wi-Fi calling is to be honest..... Why not just use WhatsApp or something which is over WiFi or data isn't it?

From what I can see, it can be enabled: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-7/help/volte-wifi-calling-redmi-note-7-t3931119 But whether it works or not, depends on the network. Apparently it doesn't work with Three: http://c.mi.com/thread-2242188-1-1.html

I have a note 5 and think it's great but the camera isnt up to much. Love the size and battery life but it might sway me to a different range if the camera on the 7 isn't much of an upgrade. Feels odd 'complaining' when they're so cheap but it would be good to know what to expect if I bought one.

I was umming and ahrring about EGC too, then I remembered I bought my current phone from them just under two years ago without issue, so I've gone for this deal because I don't think we are going to see the 6/128GB version officially here for quite a while, and it's bound to be substantially more expensive than this. It's the China version with the global version rom flashed on to it. Xiaomi has never released a global version of the 6/128 model, it is only for the China market. Yes, it has b20, if you scroll down the page to 'Main Features' it lists all the bands.

on the link it states this phone as both: CN Version Global ROM. As well as: Original Global ROM. Which is it?, is it International Version with Chinese ROM?, Global Version with Chinese ROM?, or ... thanx. As I'm a little baffled by this now. It does have the B20:800MHz, though (which ironically only goes in serving to confuse me even more! - on account of the earlier mention of it's Chinese ROM reference, etc?).

Ive had mine for 8 months and I should know better but I have never put a protective film on the screen and its fine. I use it every day usually in my pocket sometimes with keys change etc( I try to avoid but forget). It definitely doesnt scratch easy in my time with it. Without a max 4 coming this year I am seriously thinking of nabbing one of these as they really are a one off kinda phone. Hope this helps!

PERFECT!!, hehehe, then that (for me at least), is wayyyyyy better then! (literally). :-D (I'm thankful for small mercies and all that, lol). Thanx.

Battery wise, how did you find the phone?. Could it go the distance?, or did it flop a lot near the first hurdle's?. I don't mean any of that in a ride way mind, lol, but I'm just curious of the Max 2's performance thing basically, that's all, thanx.

Not every app's data is backed up by the cloud, though. Only if an app supports cloud backup. You'll get your apps back, but maybe not the data, so be careful

You can back everything up using either Google or the Mi Cloud. It will bring your apps and settings back down again after the factory reset. Backup photos / videos / music though.

Here are some non- cable alternatives to linking your mobile to your PC that might help https://www.xda-developers.com/easyjoin-pushbullet-alternative-sharing-android-pc/

I have not done a factory reset yet as this would rightly delete everything on my phone yes? Not a flip case, but the carbon fibre gel case and glass screen protector for £3.99 delivered is very good . Ebay item 253958370061 ( and its a UK seller , so no long wait) . I bought it as a stop-gap until i sourced a flip case ,but i have found no need for a flip case as this was really good. The case helps guide you finger to the fingerprint scanner and offers lots of protection , and the glass screen protector protects the screen ( my phone goes in my pocket along with coins and no marks on the screen).

Can someone recommend a good flip case for this phone.

Really good phone for the price as all xiaomi budged phones, you wont get much from this one of course, but it does the job, good working phone

Good phone for price.
