I think this is the first price drop on the new model. Bought the missus it for Christmas and she's very happy with it - BUT - I bought it from John Lewis who've now price matched Amazon. John Lewis have a 'Price Drop' price matching.. if it drops within 35 days of your purchase they'll refund you the difference - so I've just asked them to do this and got an email saying they'll be refunding me the £10.

How’s this compare with the Paperwhite?
    ollieheath55's avatar
Paperwhite has a larger, flush screen, 2.5x longer battery life, more premium build, has a faster processor, is waterproof, warm light option with more LEDs.

My paper white I purchased in 2018, the battery is now discharging on it. Used to last 6 weeks. Now it drops 50% per day. I contacted Amazon and one of their tech advisors said the battery should last 6-7 years on a paper white but it’s just tough. It’s made me consider going elsewhere for a future e reader. I’ll have to research Kobo

I've had this as well. Happens with pretty much all the kindles I've owned. It also happens about 18 months to 2 years into owenership. It's annoying. The only reason I stick to the Kindle is because of the huge library and the books are cheap (99p daily deals for example). Kobo .... I know very little about it.

I just noticed this too as had my eye on one for a bit but torn between this and paperwhite. The kids edition is £90 too with a case and kids +. That one is in stock now. Depends if you are going to buy a case it not. Apparently the ads come back when you exit kids mode though 🫤

Good to know about the ads, as I was considering the kids version (not for kids), as previous versions used to have ads permanently disabled (based on what reviews said)

I've owned a kindle for 6 years. I've used it once, to see if it works. For some reason I still find myself downloading free books.

I am confused by this comment. So you used kindle once but you are downloading free books? You are reading on a computer or tablet and not kindle? You can upload free books on kindle so why not to use it. I just...dont know what you mean.

If you buy this version, message amazon customer support and ask them to remove the ads. They will do it for free

What reasoning did you give if they asked for one?

Worth it just for USB C.

Thank you, just cancelled the one I bought Jan 1st and ordered this one. I did order it for my hubby's birthday on the 4th Jan but they keep pushing the delivery date back. Said 7th-11th February in my order tracker but now I've bought this one, it says, 1st-4th Feb. Hope they don't keep pushing the delivery date back on this order 🤞

I ordered without noticing the delivery date

Does this start up on opening the fabric cover? Or do you need to enter a code or something?

I see they are holding the no ads version. 3-6 months dispatch

Is it worth upgrading kindle paper white from 2017?
  13. Greg.'s avatar
Currently using a 2015 Paperwhite, but it's working fine still! Wonder if I should upgrade at some point, this seems like a good price

I have been using the original fire hd tablet for reading since 2012 and was thinking of going all out on the Kindle Oasis. Does anybody know how the Oasis holds up to say the newest paperwhite? The price difference is massive!
    thekitkatshuffler's avatar
I wouldn't bother with the Oasis at the moment if I were you.

It hasn't had an updated design since 2019 (every other Kindle model has) so it's expected to get a refresh this year.

Any idea where I can a refurbished Kindle or any other ereader?

Amazon sell refurbs every now and again

Is is better to get the Kindle Kids which costs £15 more but with no ads, extra cover and 2 yr warranty?
    theRainMan's avatar
In a word - yes. I actually purchased the kids Paperwhite version for myself. I just switched off the kids mode in the settings. A case and an extra year warranty seemed like a good deal to me.
