Calling all creatives and film lovers, this Asus VivoBook laptop is made for you. With a Full HD, OLED display, it’ll make your digital art crisp and popping with true-to-life shades. And whether it’s for cinema or web content creation, clever tech means you can even switch the colour spectrum to match what you’re doing. There’s 12 hours of battery too, so you’ll have time to work on that new project and kick back with a movie afterwards. Or if you’d rather stream Netflix while you work, then the AMD Ryzen™ 5 processor and 16GB of RAM will run different programs with ease. Need more apps? No problem - the 512GB SSD offers tons of storage. You won’t have any trouble opening them either, not with the super speedy load times.

It does say LED backlit but the model number is OLED based, which makes it better than the 16X if you’re after the OLED. Good spec given you get decent hardware and an OLED - though note it’s 60Hz not 90Hz as on the Pro 14 and is the simpler non-Pro Vivobook. This seems like a great all-round system for the money given the Pro 14 doesn’t seem to be coming back.

Good deal. I paid £549.99 a few weeks ago from box.co.uk (1% TCB). Mesh is (1.5% TCB). And it does have a back light keyboard.

Lack of USB-C charging is a killer for me - why we still have proprietary chargers when PD can deliver 140w+ is a mystery to me

Cheaper to use a cheap generic barrel adapter than the control electronics for USB C PD. Also with all the different USB C cables and plugs, it’s probably easier for them from a technical point of view than people trying to plug it in and wondering why it won’t charge - trying to explain why a phone charger that fits a USB C socket on a laptop and won’t charge it is hard enough.

You can "make" any H series into a U series by limiting TDP with the APU tuning utility, at least with the H series you get the option of more power when plugged in.

This does have a back lit keyboard. Can be had for £530 from Tekshop247. Oled is much better than the poor LED panel on the other 15" Vivobook models.

Why would they spoil it by leaving out a backlit keyboard?

These are decent machines. Speedy and nice screens. I’m quite good at breaking laptops and so far it hasn’t broken yet after nearly a year. One thing though, you might want to check the battery. life.

How is the built quality? Is the chassis made of plastic or metal? Thank you.

Yeah, remember those in the mid to late 90s. My first PC was a Mesh. Saw it advertised for £999 in Computer Shopper mag.

would this be any good to support AutoCad and Python as my daughter is looking for an upgrade to her Chromebook?

Probably better to go for a desktop if possible but if you have to then it's good for the price but may struggle with AutoCAD, AutoCAD needs a decent GPU apparently as you need 4GB graphics ram. It would probably work for a beginner with simpler shapes maybe

Is this probably the best laptop in this price range looking for a laptop upgrade from Chromebook I know most laptops would be an upgrade but I tend to do more than course work maybe light gaming
