You need to be on the mailing list for this offer. But try this URL (from my email): email.shop.bt.com/c/1…lVS

You legend! Just clicked through your link and ordered one now

I've had one of these for a few years as a bedside alarm clock and photo viewer.

    Good points:
    Alarm clock is handy.
    Time display dims in darkness
Can set routines to play white noise etc for several hours
    Photo frame screensaver is good
You can watch YouTube, Disney, Netflix on it

    Bad points:
Screen is small. You need to be close to it.
    Sound is not that loud
I find the YouTube search not good. Easier to do on a phone then cast to the hub
The Tapo camera viewer times out after 30 seconds - easier on my phone

It's a nice bit of kit but £29 should be the normal price.

I can't come up with a reason to get this.

It's super handy in the kitchen to set cooking timers and reminders. Also had the added bonus of being able to listen to the radio. If you've got smart devices, you can control them from it too. It's nice when I'm in the kitchen for my doorbell camera to show up automatically when someone buzzes

Speakers on first gen are significantly worse than the second gen if a main use will be music or radio.

Its not terrible. But still a big enough difference to notice
    jcg's avatar
Any other major differences besides the audio quality? I'll just be using it for controlling/viewing stuff.

    The dumb smart speaker.
    drako1000's avatar
While I admit the voice assistant is getting worse. The other functionality is useful.

It's still a decent price for a digital picture frame / smart home device controller.

The sound quality is also fine for basic music listening too. (edited)

Is there any way to make video calls through this?
    sheffield788's avatar
That's the reason I'm using a Lenovo smart display instead. I think smart displays without cameras are pointless.

The second gen was only £40 at Xmas wasnt it?
  8. Ts1899's avatar
    Is this the first gen

gonna buy this because I don't need it.

I just bought two. but why?

£29 for me, I was getting ready to post this deal. Decent price, but after getting the 2nd gen + google mini for £24 from Argos (long time ago), I think I would not pay more than £15-20 for this. Not that is not worth £29, I think it does. Hot! (edited)
  11. deleted188690's avatar
Ordered and had a 10% discount code they sent me last time I ordered. So £26.10 for me. (edited)
  12. Michael64321's avatar
This or wait for a reduction on Gen 2 again?
  13. chrishamblin's avatar
    Bought one. Why? why? err.

I'm sure I'll find a use for it. Kitchen photo frame / recipes if nothing else. Probably.

    Alarm clock?

Topcashback too.. But only 2% lol
  15. CH_0120's avatar
    £49 at my end?
  16. sheffield788's avatar
It is selected users only. I've got an e-mail showing £29. Clicking on your links, takes me to £49. I think people need to log on and after that they will see if they are eligible.
This link takes it to £29, but I do not know if the prices changes once you log on: shop.bt.com/pro…ail (edited)

Ordered. Amazing bargain. Horrific buying experience though via mobile. An utter mess of a site.

Missed the £59 deal with Google TV 4k but this will suffice

I'm looking for a small screen to put on my work desk that shows my google calendar events for that day so I know what's coming up next, can this do that?
    iammienta's avatar
Not very useful for this tbf.
You can ask what's the next event or schedule for tomorrow but you can't have it as your screen or see the whole calendar for today for example.
Wouldn't recommend it for this use case.

Skylight calendar is what you're after. Or a cheap tablet.

These are so bad even at this price! The functionality and the low speaker output are terrible!
    L33TL33's avatar
What’s wrong with the functionality? I think it’s great and far superior to Alexa. Speaker quality is bad on the gen 1

    £49 for me :/

That's odd. It's showing as £29 for me and I'm not logged in or anything

I was thinking about getting another Google Home Mini but might as well grab this.
    sheffield788's avatar
I've paid £5 for a used Mini for my son, purchased from eBay. This was last month. I know it is not a match and yes, if I was to pay £20+ for the mini, I would have gone for this instead. But I prefer paying £5 for a used mini.

How would Apple Podcasts work with this (main reason I'm in the market) - use airplay or not as simple?
    iammienta's avatar
Apple podcast will not cast to Google home. Spotify will and the library is growing tho.

There is no apple airplay on Google home (there is a workaround from what I know but it requires a bit of tech savvy installation.

Possibly the only native option is to connect to Google home via Bluetooth.

That indeed was a deal! Throw in towel each and you could have multiple of these.
