Personal note: Please correct me if I'm wrong, I noticed this deal when searching if this was a good price for the ongoing market: hotukdeals.com/dea…822

This device is better, offers 32-bit up to 384khz which is double the sample rate performance than the X4, a much smaller device too. The only disadvantage is that this G6 is using a micro USB port, however I fail to see more reasons to chose the X4 over this one.

The next price is £89.99 @ Creative's website, here, in case anyone wants to get it from them directly.

Misleading Camel price history of "Sold By Amazon" with no stock, looks to always be around this price or often less for a fair long time

Thanks for calling that out. I forget to hit the "3rd party seller" option on 3camel, the chart I usually put in the description will be updated to better reflect this.

Ahh, keep missing it when it drops.
Back up again now, but looking at price changes over the last few Months it'll probably go back down again in a few weeks.

It's still that price - tick the 10% off box

Excellent amp for high powered headphones, the surround sound is a gimmick....

Having tried a SoundBlaster X7 which was supposed to be better than this but turned out to be really mediocre, I’m not sure how much better than a good motherboard this will be.

That's a shame, just looked at the specification of the X7 and it looked quite quite insignificant. Shame really. Although I've personally found all of the X series quite disappointing.

Had a G6 for years. Paired with AKG 712 Pro's. Onboard doesn't have the fidelity or power to drive my headphones properly (Gigabyte Aorus Elite X570). Audio is great in games and music. I don't use the surround feature as its not required.

Another key feature of this unit is that it has microphone input and unlike other soundcards or USB mics the G6 has zero delay with mic monitoring. I'm using a ModMic4 (analogue).

Software is OK - it has all you need for EQ and other adjustments. Lots of other 'tools' like Voice Clarity and such, but they add mic latency. But overall there is enough in there to fine tune to your own ears.

If you are on the fence and have decent headphones and are still using onboard sound - you are missing out.

Thanks, does the software need to be installed for mic monitoring?

I Pairded mine with a pair beyerdynamics DT990 and wow!

Onboard motherboards wont support high end studio headphones that need 600 Ohms and i love the fact i can connect my ps5 and get audio from both ps5 and pc at the same time so i can still chat etc for work / friends and still play my ps5 without touching a thing.

This with my a pair of dt990 was the best purchase ive ever had on pc!

Use mine with headphones for Dolby Digital surround through Kodi. Very nice. Although the first one I had overheated.

If connected pc through optical, does it still somehow send back the microphone data? As I'd have thought that would be one directional (edited)
    mm0zct's avatar
No it won't be able to send the mic data when used this way, you are correct that optical is a unidirectional signal.

I don't know why you wouldn't connect a pc via usb though?

Be advised that these Creative cards don't support Linux in any capacity. You'll get some sound out of them, and that's pretty much all you can hope for.
No configuration is possible, no firmware updates, the microphone tends to mute itself every time your computer wakes from sleep, and the card itself does not go to sleep with the computer, meaning that lights stay on and the card stays hot, draining power unnecessarily.
