”Still a brilliant small streaming system.” ’What Hi-Fi?’ 2022 award-winner.

Bluetooth now standard
For the first time, Denon’s best-selling Hi-Fi mini system comes with Bluetooth connectivity. This lets you wirelessly connect your smartphone or tablet and stream your stored music or favourite streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer. For improved sound quality when not using Bluetooth, a simple switch lets you power down the circuits, creating less internal electrical noise.

The compact system that still puts sound first
Denon’s baby Hi-Fi systems have always been renowned for putting sound first and the DM41 DAB is no different. "Simple & Straight" circuit design minimizes distortion from the input selector, electronic volume control and power amp for sound purity and very low levels of distortion. Working alongside this, Triple Noise Reduction Design (TNRD) works to preserve the signal quality for the most accurate, life-like sound.

DAB radio
The Denon DM41 DAB comes with an impressive sounding tuner radio that's comprehensively equipped. Featuring DAB+, DAB and FM (RDS), the tuner has all your radio needs covered and, as ever, puts sound quality first.

Top quality CD player
Many of us still have a sizeable CD collection and it’s here where the DM41 really excels. Denon’s first-rate engineering gives CDs a smooth, dynamic sound. The player is also flexible enough to playback WMA and MP3 encoded discs.

Connect up three other components
Although a brilliant system in its own right, the DM41DAB reaches out to your other sources, too. If you've got a TV, games console or TV set-top box, you can plug them in using the two standard optical inputs. An analogue AUX input is also included for older sources.

Pump up the bass with an optional subwoofer
By fitting a subwoofer output, Denon gives you a wider choice of speaker options. Instead of medium-sized or floorstanding speakers you can use an active subwoofer with small satellite speakers - the choice is yours.

Perfect for a second room
The compact size makes the DM41 DAB ideal for serious sound in a second room. Many have used their previous Denon M-Series systems in bedrooms, studies and kitchens and have been delighted with the results. The clock, sleep timer and headphone output all help improve the systems functionality.

Proper Hi-Fi in a compact box – the Denon DM41 DAB still leads its class.

6 year guarantee for £25 and this is a solid little system. Not hard to add a turntable.

Plus I believe the guarantee outlay is refunded if not used. Seems a bit of a no brainer TBH.

The build quality on this is not very good for something you are spending £200/£250 on. There’s many posts online about the cd player giving up after very little use.

I’ve got one from a previous deal and unfortunately the cd player suffered the same fate of failing with little use, but outside warranty period.

my cd tray won’t close unless forcible pushed and then won’t open unless manual pushed around.

The problem is there aren't any companies manufacturing decent CD mechanisms any more. They're all just Chinese clones of the old Sanyo SFP101N (the original Sanyo version was solid, and often the best way of fixing these is to find an old real Sanyo mech from the 2000s in an old cheapo stereo as the laser etc in those will last), and this goes for the cheapest boom box right up to some very expensive component CD players. It's not really Denon's fault. Personally I wouldn't pay £200+ for any CD player any more. The upside is replacement mechanisms are cheap and readily available if you're handy with a screwdriver.

The OP's problem sounds like a belt. (edited)

Hi can anyone recommend a pair of speakers to go with it please.

Any passive speakers... Richer sounds do some cheap Wharfedale <£100... But if you can go higher... Mission / Q Acoustics are solid bookshelf speakers. Fairly safe to take a punt on second hand too.

Definitely pay the extra for the warranty, highly likely you will need it.
CD started having issues on mine after 2 years and BT was always iffy. Many people have had same issues, also failing display.
    Its not a reliable model.

This is a good device but it's very long in the tooth and not known for its reliability. I'm amazed that a 42 version never arrived and it now seems like Denon have abandoned it in favour of the cheap looking plastic CEOL systems. Realistically you are probably better off streaming with your mobile to a pair of Edifier active speakers for about the same kind of money.

For some people yes. This is very versatile as it has a radio and CD player, both of which some people still use. You can also connect it to a TV with an optical cable.

I have had an earlier version of this for about 8yrs now. Excellent unit for a very small price and no reliability issues of any kind. Might just have been lucky?

I have the DM40 DAB and it's been rock solid as well. I have some decent speakers connected to and it is as Audiophile as I could ever want.

I bought one mail order during early original lockdown, as knew I would be WFH for a long time. Gets used every day in my small study, Raspberry Pi with Hifi Berry DAC card attached to Analog In, streaming FLAC from my LMS server. Yes old school, but it's how I like it. Got some Q Acoustic 3010 bookshelf speakers and very happy with the sound.

Also use the DAB part of it, which works well. Only play the occasional CD, so can't comment on longevity there, but nice to have. Would buy again!

I would recommend the extended warranty, Richer Sounds are very good with warranty issues, I had a Yamaha amp which failed months from the end of extended warranty they could not repair so they refunded the full amount which I had paid years earlier. (edited)

hi all , can i plug my Denon DP-29F turntable to this plz ?

I'm 99% it has a phono pre-amp built in, in which case yes. Connects directly to the line in input on the back.

does anyone know if this can be set to send unpowered so it could be connected to an amp? I have an old amp i like the sound of but my cd player is a bit clapped. This looks cool but I'm guessing its only for passives?

It would be a waste of money to use this as a CD player only, and it won't be possible as this has no line level outputs.

How can I get this to play through a Sonos speaker?
    gslgregory's avatar

Unless you go for the new generation of Sonos speakers, they do not have Bluetooth. Sonos connect wirelessly (over wifi) and this does not have a wifi output. So it will only work with the new Sonos speakers (via Bluetooth).

Takes me back to 1998. They used to sell this same item, sometimes with minidiscs built in.

    Who’s buying this in 2023?

    It doesnt even have streaming.
    Welliesorter's avatar
    Welliesorter
It has Bluetooth so you could link it to a phone, tablet, computer or Amazon Echo device, or you can plug in a streaming device with the optical or RCA inputs.

It is a shame that there's no updated model with wifi, DLNA, Airplay, Chromecast etc. but it would bump up the cost and you can add these things if you want them.

Ah yes, compact disc. I've seen them on Tomorrow's World. I don't think it'll take off so I'll stick with vinyl for now. (edited)

I can't believe they still make such garbage from 25 years ago, it's like something you'd see in Lidl for £39.99

It really isn't. This is good value, a reasonable alternative to real hifi separates.

I've had the previous model for seven years. I use a Chromecast Audio (sadly no longer available) to provide a wireless input. The current model has Bluetooth.

With a reasonable pair of speakers it's also a good alternative to a TV soundbar. I suspect it's designed with this in mind as it has two optical inputs.

The 6 year warranty should be a no brainer though if buying it.

The DAB radio will probably fail in about 2 years. That's what happened with my Denon, so I'm never buying Denon again.

I treated myself to it over Christmas with the Silver Denon with white speakers £60.00 on Amazon, I just like the size and power, it fits perfect on my book case. I also like the DAB+ so many stations to choose good reception, I can't complain at this price.
