And for my 11 year old BMW that's had 2 Bluetooth modules fail I no longer have Bluetooth handsfree, or the ability to stream media over Bluetooth. This looks a possible answer for me.

I own 2 pure radios, I hate their charge pak system they use inferior battery chemistry and cost a fortune. They started producing models without that have a micro USB port and AAA cell options. Alternately you can power most off a 4mm barrel jack to USB and a 5v phone charger. Edit: 5.5v 2a power requirements with a micro jack horray. You'll get away with using this on a power bank.

I can verify it is not DAB+. It was one of the radios I planned to test for a pocket radio DAB article where one of the rules of what I would test is that it has to support DAB+. DAB+ stations simply do not appear on the station list. A shame because from the short time I had it, it seemed very good signal wise.

A good upgrade on the old matsui / alba effort for all those old blokes who like to take a wireless to the football on a saturday to keep up with the football pools

Looks like micro usb chargeable,so one positive. Headphones got to be worth a £5.

Will this replace my Crystal set?

A good device to time travel back to 2004..sort of..

I've collected mine, great radio

Nah, you would deffo get the correct power supply.

I've had a couple of Roberts Ecologic 1's and never had anywhere near 25 hours on batteries of any sort. More like 10 - 12 depending on strength of signal. If the Sony gets the claimed 13 hours then that'd be about the same.

0-0 I swear i told it to auto correct when i typed that!

Probably means they'll be missing 'non essential' extras like the power supply (skeptical)

You are looking for reasons not to choose an echo dot which will be 15 at black Friday. Digital 2 isn't as widespread as digital 1 so certain areas like Plymouth haven't got say virgin radio these aerials can be hit and miss with popping and clicking. You can link the dot to your existing speaker. You can schedule radio changing stations effortlessly. The only reliable reason not to buy is if you don't have WiFi which is fair enough. If you phillipine your Spotify 1.80 per month gives you the ability to stop the radio to play a related song. The echo is very good for music if you don't mind churning data

Wake me to X radio works for me

you give three cheap brands, which doesn't warrant the cold vote IMHO granted the ones you posted after your initial comment do appear to be a better deal, in which case if you had posted them I'd have agreed with you original comment also

- Don't have the money to spend on line rental, broadband and/or data allowances like pensioners and those on low incomes but can scrape the one off cost of a radio? - Don't want a device that records what they say in the room at any given time considering recent controversies around data collection and usage by tech firms? - DAB is good enough for purpose? People buy the cheapest radios, receive the most popular stations on FM or DAB and does the job. Over 3x more people listen to DAB compared to the Internet. It also provides a much clearer reception and sound than MW. - Workplaces don't allow smart speakers but do allow a radio? - For pocket DAB radios, better reception in rural areas where mobile phone reception is still patchy and unlikely to be covered for commercial reasons?

I'm abit disappointed in the one I bought for £26 quid. The Ariel screw has come loose so it doesn't stay in position, I cannot get dab in the hospital ward ( I assume that's just due to location) and not the radios fault But the biggest gripe is that the FM radio on the unit has actual worse reception than the £10 Alcatel phone my dad uses as his phone .

Great sound.battery lasts at least 8 hours half volume.

Seems ok!

The black one is 2 pounds cheaper (highfive)

And I thought this was a decent deal, obviously not! I see the Pure warranty is for 3 years, which is a bonus!

I used to own two Pure Evokes a good while ago and both went faulty just out their guarantee period. The market’s now full of radios which I see as just as good if not better in many respects for a far cheaper price. I’m biased though due to my experiences with my previous two Evokes.

Well, I've never had that experience with Sandstrom DAB radios in the past

Just bought this its going back tomorrow, very week tuner. My old Pure bug DAB radio was better than this. Tried a few stations and keep blocking then comming up no service even on BBC radio 2 (annoyed)

Just bought a Sandstrom DAB+ radio from Currys, not this one though. Box didn’t say DAB+ but it did have the green tick mark. In the Currys store it could pick up 40 stations, at home about 80 including DAB+ stations. Very solid reception on DAB even with the microwave on which would interfere WiFi internet radio streaming. Sounds very good and goes very loud for the money much better than the Sony, JVC models on display I tried at a similar price. You can dim the display, menus are simple.

ahh, thats what I'm after, thankyou! :)

It has an AUX in socket but not iPhone dock

DAB : why?

Roberts are usually pretty good, even if they aren't made in UK anymore. I have the Roberts Ecologic 4, and the speaker sound quality is exceptional.

But there's only 4 X 2* reviews, but 34 X 5* reviews.... so i guess the vast majority say yay to this radio. But the proof is in the listening to it, some are more picky than others about the sound quality in a portable radio. If i were thinking about buying this radio, i would probably go to Currys or somewhere and listen to one.

Well I checked reviews on amazon for the 41. A few two star reviews, one criticising the sound: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-XDR-S41D-Portable-Wireless-Display/product-reviews/B073VZVPRJ/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_hist_2?ie=UTF8&filterByStar=two_star&reviewerType=all_reviews#reviews-filter-bar Probably better with this Roberts: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Roberts-Radio-Play10-Digital-Presets/dp/B008VPBDYI/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1534542498&sr=8-4&keywords=roberts+dab I have heard it and it sounded decent.

I've not had experience of using one, but apparently it has got a better sound from reviews i've seen, it certainly couldn't be worse than the 40. It does have a higher output though, 0.6W as opposed to 0.3W on the 40. The 40 had a lot of complaints about its poor sound, i would assume that Sony has given it a better sound for the 41 replacement.

Properly ventilated, non-new build bathroom. The radio, which is pretty much a sealed unit, and at £12 is pretty much disposable, is no where near the bath/shower as previously explained. Next?

Of course, steam does wonders for electrics.

Hahahahahahahaha, no problem, I hear ya, thanx.

I was responding to Bilbo the 'likes' collector, I think it's a decent item for the money (y)

No problem. :-D I'll buy the OP's one for only £16.99 ... And this Weekend coming, I'll blatantly sell it for you for £169.90 INSTEAD of you want?, hehehehehe. ;-) It's just a fancy Radio man, that's it?. So it doesn't therefore need to cost a King's ransom right?, or ... ;-) (That's in my humble opinion anyway?). :-)

Especially a red one.

I know that but didn’t feel need to give a history lesson. Fact is they are now designed and made in China and generally are entry level price and average performance

No DAB + , no proper lcd screen . Cold for £ 34. If it was selling for £12 , it would have been ok .

They never used to be but were sold to Argos along with Alba. Bush actually used to make some decent products before they were sold. They are actually a British brand

"...this is at least £49.99 everywhere else..." OP: where is '"everywhere else"? It's an Argos own brand! Not leather either - "leather look" in the small print. Dishonest. If it's anything like two Bush branded radios I've had it's best avoided at any price, let alone this price.

Mine arrived today and it seems very good. First impressions are that it seems to have better reception than the Pure I was using. It definitely has Bluetooth as well.

I've gone for this as my JVC bathroom radio gets a much stronger signal than any other radio I've tried. I have poor DAB signal at home, so hoping this will be good enough to replace the Sonos / Chromecasts I have been using as an alarm and to listen to 6 Music.

I've had a JVC DAB before and the signal was stronger on it than any Roberts or Pure radios I had previously

It does have Bluetooth

I used to snub dab as Absolute is also on sky but when Virgin Dab only came along on Digital 2 it had dance garbage, they soon realised that Dance and indie don'tgo together and are pretty much Absolute 2 now which is handy as an alternative to garbage comedians like skinner mansford and berry I can change to Virgin.

Thanks for the share. Gone for the refurb Christie at £30 as it allows a rechargeable battery to be used

THIS! ALL THIS! Same for Absolute 90s. We switched to 'Non Stop 90s' - as they seem to remember that Dance & Pop were big in that decade too - not just Britpop (which they also play). 'This' Non-Stop 90s http://www.nonstop90s.net/ They also have a 80s Variant! https://tunein.com/radio/NonStop80s-Radio-s130501/ , hopefully with greater variety than AR80s.
