I was tempted, but if that is correct then not now.
I was always a 5 Live listener but a big Talksport fan these days instead. Listening to it now on DAB.
Only prob is that there are 20 preset channels-cant tune yourself
5 Live for me too, and Classic FM.
I picked up this today & it's really good. lots of stations & yes it does use the headphones as it's antenna excellent little DAB radio.
DAB : why?
Roberts are usually pretty good, even if they aren't made in UK anymore. I have the Roberts Ecologic 4, and the speaker sound quality is exceptional.
But there's only 4 X 2* reviews, but 34 X 5* reviews.... so i guess the vast majority say yay to this radio. But the proof is in the listening to it, some are more picky than others about the sound quality in a portable radio. If i were thinking about buying this radio, i would probably go to Currys or somewhere and listen to one.
Well I checked reviews on amazon for the 41. A few two star reviews, one criticising the sound: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-XDR-S41D-Portable-Wireless-Display/product-reviews/B073VZVPRJ/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_hist_2?ie=UTF8&filterByStar=two_star&reviewerType=all_reviews#reviews-filter-bar Probably better with this Roberts: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Roberts-Radio-Play10-Digital-Presets/dp/B008VPBDYI/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1534542498&sr=8-4&keywords=roberts+dab I have heard it and it sounded decent.
I've not had experience of using one, but apparently it has got a better sound from reviews i've seen, it certainly couldn't be worse than the 40. It does have a higher output though, 0.6W as opposed to 0.3W on the 40. The 40 had a lot of complaints about its poor sound, i would assume that Sony has given it a better sound for the 41 replacement.
Properly ventilated, non-new build bathroom. The radio, which is pretty much a sealed unit, and at £12 is pretty much disposable, is no where near the bath/shower as previously explained. Next?
Of course, steam does wonders for electrics.
Hahahahahahahaha, no problem, I hear ya, thanx.
I was responding to Bilbo the 'likes' collector, I think it's a decent item for the money (y)
No problem. :-D I'll buy the OP's one for only £16.99 ... And this Weekend coming, I'll blatantly sell it for you for £169.90 INSTEAD of you want?, hehehehehe. ;-) It's just a fancy Radio man, that's it?. So it doesn't therefore need to cost a King's ransom right?, or ... ;-) (That's in my humble opinion anyway?). :-)
Especially a red one.
I know that but didn’t feel need to give a history lesson. Fact is they are now designed and made in China and generally are entry level price and average performance
No DAB + , no proper lcd screen . Cold for £ 34. If it was selling for £12 , it would have been ok .
They never used to be but were sold to Argos along with Alba. Bush actually used to make some decent products before they were sold. They are actually a British brand
"...this is at least £49.99 everywhere else..." OP: where is '"everywhere else"? It's an Argos own brand! Not leather either - "leather look" in the small print. Dishonest. If it's anything like two Bush branded radios I've had it's best avoided at any price, let alone this price.
I used to snub dab as Absolute is also on sky but when Virgin Dab only came along on Digital 2 it had dance garbage, they soon realised that Dance and indie don'tgo together and are pretty much Absolute 2 now which is handy as an alternative to garbage comedians like skinner mansford and berry I can change to Virgin.
I got a Lulu Guiness one
Its Mains Charger or takes 4x AA Battery's
Thanks for the share. Gone for the refurb Christie at £30 as it allows a rechargeable battery to be used
THIS! ALL THIS! Same for Absolute 90s. We switched to 'Non Stop 90s' - as they seem to remember that Dance & Pop were big in that decade too - not just Britpop (which they also play). 'This' Non-Stop 90s http://www.nonstop90s.net/ They also have a 80s Variant! https://tunein.com/radio/NonStop80s-Radio-s130501/ , hopefully with greater variety than AR80s.
Ha ha class.... just smidge more bucks lol
Here you go http://www.argos.co.uk/product/6267067
Cold no Bluetooth
Better if you put all colours in one post. Think thats why people are voting cold. (shock) but good price
Thanks @szaman81 nice looking DAB for the price
Got the version previous to this for £19.95 ,been great so far
Terrible speaker quality, just wanted a cheapy for the kitchen. Sounds like a chinook crashing through scaffolding when you turn the volume anywhere up.
Is this the sherbert dib dab one?
Perhaps this will help:https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_audio_broadcasting
What is DAB2 or DAB +? Only thought there was DAB
It is, hence the +
Bluetooth, mainly, and different design, but that's in the eye of the beholder. Don't know how sound differs.
Or pay 10% less than Richer Sounds and get it from argos ebay! :D
Would be interested to know the sound quality/tone of these. I have a Roberts Blutune 50 which is ridiculously bass-heavy, with no way of adjusting the tone. The controls on this one look better at least.
What advantages does that have?
Spend a little more if you can and go for the new model
£75 now but still this price at FFX.
Great price, can't think you'll get anything better for the money.
Ordered been waiting cheet
Ordered yesterday... Great deal..😁
It’s £66-£70 at a few online retailers. But a lot cheaper than screwfix
Just received mine - it's obvious from the picture posted above but I hadn't realised that it's not much use as a bedroom clock/radio as the time display is on the top of the device (and is small). Other than that, the sound quality is average, but it seems well built. One nice feature, it has two alarms and either can be set to daily/weekday/weekend operation. iPhone SE connected to it no problem with bluetooth.
Brilliant just converted my car radio to DAB with this via AUX. Thanks OP
What is Mono DAB?
That one is a slightly different colour but here it is so you can see display on it
Photos of the unit are a bit odd they do not show the dlsplay https://www.amazon.co.uk/Alba-Mono-DAB-Radio-Clock-Blue/dp/B01BT3CWKW/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_23_tr_img_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=X3X1RNE1Q2BR7CPBEC96
I have several DAB portable radios and all but one have no trouble picking up a strong signal. I live in Liverpool and I can pick up Manchester and Stoke stations. The nearby railway line and overhead cables cause a great deal of interference on FM so much so that Radio 3 is impossible to listen too. DAB makes listening possible and, to quote the hype, interference free. As for the mono speaker in this set, you don't get much of a stereo effect if any all from twin speaker sets so it's no great loss. What does confuse me is the 3 months Deezer subscription. This isn't an internet radio.
I always prefer to use FM where available for the Stereo. DAB, like CDs, is never as good as they initially advertised and broadcasting in only mono is such a backward step. :(
In fact, some children thought they experiment if seeds could grow next to a router and the answer was...
BTW, I once bought a previous version of a cheap black portable Logik at Currys and struggled at connecting as areial? had to be pulled full length. Had to return it. Do doublecheck wrt new version.
Put your DAB radio next to router, mobile on a call, Bluetooth speaker, cordless phone base unit... and play anything if you can.
That’s also a really good deal (y) Personally not for me, due to the colour but I think the currys one may be slightly better sound due to the 2w?
Another deal with colour. Suggest you check before purchase, whether connection satisfactory. https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/logik-lrdabp17-portable-dabfm-clock-radio-3-months-deezer-premium-now-1599-currys-2940227
We the people demand 2-speaker stereo radios. Don't try to dupe us with your science-speak and marketing mumbo jumbo. /s
I think this particular model with the wood effect is a much more premium than the glossy black personally and this seems to be the cheapest price I can find it anywhere.
I recently purchased this from Amazon for £99 which is similar and over the moon with it - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B071GR8WG4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Revo SuperSystem is better.
That's a thing of beauty.
Managed to get mine for £50 because it was missing the dab antenna and microphone. Got cheap ones of Amazon and they all work great. Agree with the dim display, but good enough for my needs!
Reserved one at the oldbury branch. Not bad for the money, sadly when I turned up the front of the unit was all scratched up so gave it a miss. I have a higher end pioneer touch screen(£150) reserved at the selly oak branch hope that’s in good condition.
Well at £75 and no touch screen, it's not really surprising.
Shame it doesn’t come with airplay or android auto
Nope, if it did halfords couldn't sell you one lol.
Pure was my first and best..... dropped it.......and paid for a cheaper brand....buy PURE
The Pure Move R3 is best for anyone who only needs to travel in a strong signal area. If you move around or live in an area where the signal is less than stellar, the Pure Move 2520 is the best and the one I use. As the signal gets weaker, the Move 2520 starts to noticeably be more sensitive than the Move R3. If you're struggling to be able to afford either of those, then the next best one price wise is the VQ Blighty and the original Majority Petersfield (not the newly released Petersfield Go). The Roberts Sports DAB radios are also on par with the Blighty and Petersfield but is more expensive and surprisingly, the cheap Exmax (sold under many brands at cheap prices) can also stand up to them but its clear that it is built to a price. Before purchase, I would check Digital Radio UK's station checking tool and I would suggest that if it says you can get good reception for the station you want to listen to, a digital radio will work fine with very few, if any, dropouts for the aforementioned radios. If it says you can get fair reception, you'll get the odd dropout or two with the Move 2520 and a few more dropouts with the Blighty and Petersfield. But from my testing, not all radios are equal. Generally, radios with Frontier Silicon chipsets (all the radios mentioned above) do best but even then and even within brands, radios can perform differently. With Pure, the Move 2520 is better at medium and weaker signals than the R3 and both are better than the T4 when used as a pocket radio. The Pure radios perform better than the aforementioned radios even though they all use various Frontier Silicon chipsets. Dedicated pocket radios tend to work better than the personal pocket/tabletop hybrid ones when used as a pocket radio. But some pocket radios - namely the lesser known brand ones - perform very poorly in medium to weak signal areas to the point of being completely unusuable and they also tend to be (but not exclusively) on the cheaper side. It may be the reason why people have a negative view of DAB, for something that is vital - tuner sensitivity - this information is not easily available until I tested a variety of DAB+ pocket radios and publishing them online.
Which ones were the best of the ones you tested?
I've tested numerous pocket DAB radios for their sensitivity and reception for a project I have done as this information is not available to the public and reviews can be subjective to that individuals circumstances and location. The LHDAB17 seemed pretty good for the short time I had it compared to other radios I have tested. There was one showstopper that stopped me from keeping it - it does not support DAB+.
Wow mains powered going to need a heck of a cable especially if going out? Don't like the the ones with onboard battery as once they run out have to recharge and inevitably the battery gets weaker and weaker till the whole thing has to be dumped. Have a Roberts Sports DAB5 used daily for 2 years and with a pair of 2500Mah AA rechargeable's lasts over 16 hours full volume on a DAB station. Love it and reception is very good and sound excellent , costs twice the price of this one but worth every penny. Listening to LBC in house at the mo and getting 2bars signal out of 5 and perfectly clear all over the house..
Free postage as order over £50
Free next daydelivery when you spend over £50
Plus £6 for postage.
Nice, good price for a DAB (y)
You can get it here for £68.50 https://www.ukplanettools.co.uk/Products/Dewalt-Radios/DCR020-GB?gclid=CjwKCAjw4sLVBRAlEiwASblR-0jVVys2XoQIsJlQnW8ibPBNiUWxNZnR_K_pAv6iF3EMwn-Gv-U28BoCXGYQAvD_BwE
Do these have hands free calls as well?
They told me individual stores can put things on sale. I bought it for 29.99 in the end as it’s still cheaper than ebay/amazon etc. Will fit it at the weekend :)
£29.99 in my 4 local Aldis
DAB reception can still be very variable, it would be no use for me as DAB signal quality is abysmal around me.
