Already have one but wanted another. Been waiting for the price to drop for a while now, good camera and app easy to use. Motion detection ok but still very sensitive even after updating but overall I'm happy with it.

Great camera unless it’s dark and raining then you’ll get constant notifications. Drives me nuts!

turning night vision off eliminates that problem but you will need to have some light in the area for a decent image as there is a great low light sensor on this. a street lamp nearby would be enough

Good price. I have this camera and the vision quality is good for the price.

Only negative is that rain at night time can sometime be detected as a person and trigger the motion alert.

I had to turn the motion alert off.

At night once the IR light comes on, it attracts bugs or any floating past become bright white blobs which sets it off at the lowest settings.

I have tapo indoor cameras which are perfect, but I'm put off by people saying the external camera sends alerts due to the rain

You can turn them off and record as normal. Or set line detection and get less alerts (edited)

Annoyingly I was looking at buying a camera yesterday as had the £5 Wish List voucher, but only the C310 was available at this price.

Although equally annoying is the way manufacturers show their products working by "magic" with no visible cabling. To achieve that with this you'd need to drill a pretty big hole through the wall to accommodate the non-removable RJ45 connector... (edited)
    Szabster's avatar
    Szabster
You leave rj45 to dangle or tie it to the other cable and only drill hole for the lead coming from the power supply

Can I see it to loop record on SD card and view live or review what's recorded on SD card on my Android mobile? Thanks.

Yes you can, although it's different to review and pinpoint an exact event coz you have to manually scroll through the whole footage

So it can take the sd card for recordings but also can send it via WiFi to NAS or other home storage?

    Yes it’s simultaneously

I believe so. I already have c310 and hooked into frigate continuous recording to my server using rtsp stream. Just bought this too to hook up to frigate too.
Using frigate object detection instead of tapo software, there are very few false alarms and it can distinguish between objects like
    Human, dog,cat umbrella etc.
Not the easiest thing to setup but if you are that way inclined, its worth the effort. (edited)

I’ve been thinking about getting a puppy-cam for when we aren’t at home and this seems like a pretty good deal. It’s probably overkill seeing as it’s an outdoor rated camera but for less than 40 quid i might bite.

Get the indoor version. Get the one that can pan,.tilt and move 360 it is amazing I use it as a baby monitor and you can track your dog around the room

I've had this camera for the last 6 months outside our property, and it's just beautiful. It works when I am not home and I can see anyone passing by, I even caught a lot of neighbours throwing their rubbish in my bin and showed them the footage.

To the two commenters, have you tried the 3D printable hood by any chance?

Wont make a difference as rain can still trigger the motion sensor 😔

Do these run on battery or need to wire to power source
    AdelRawas's avatar

They have a plug. You need to plug them in, no battery

Agreed on the over-sensitivity; it’s absolutely infuriating to configure and goes off even on the lowest settings. Mine gets triggered by car headlights too. That said, the image quality is very good, the two-way communication works well and it connects quite quickly (in comparison with Arlo, which takes around 15-20 seconds to appear in the app). For this price it’s a great camera.

Bought this a few weeks ago at Argos for same price. Good little camera. You get a 14day free trial for online storage.

I have one of these and absolutely love it, it can be a bit sensitive to rain if you rely on motion/AI detect, but if you set up boundary it's almost flawless, the quality is fantastic too, the night mode is brilliant if you have ambiant light though it does come with it's own LED floodlight which does improve the colour picture here, I can't say how good it would be if that was the only light source, and the option to have on board storage with or without a subscription is brilliant too, my only gripe is that you can't seem to zoom in on recorded footage and that it has disconnected twice now in the last month so I've had to hardwire it to my router

I have the 310, which is very good, was able to configure recordings on my NAS server. Have purchased this which is a better model, and hope to connect to my server also. The rain problem is a pain, so switched off notification.

Intreated to know why any one would buy this? A static camera you can’t move when you can pay the same price and get one that can moves around and be controlled

    Hi

Can I connect it to a NVR as IP camera?

    Cheers
    rbz5416's avatar
    rbz5416
I guess that depends on the NVR but I have other Tapos hooked up to my Synology NAS using RTSP in their Surveillance Station software. I'm pretty sure TP-Link also have the required info on their site.

I have a wired system just now and TBH night vision is .. poor

Tempted to swap one of my cameras to this so have the power (and co-axial) running from the Main CCTV box, so will this be able to use the power from that?

I have a NAS so can just stream everything to that using the Wifi.

How easy is the removal of the SD Card? (edited)

Easy to remove the SD card, there's a covered "hatch" on the bottom of the camera.
