Check the price of the annual subscription... Not worth it, especially when the Doorbell (gen 2) starts to rust and fail after a few months

Have had the Gen 2 for for a few years and it hasn’t rusted 🤷‍♂️. Also sub is about £30 a year. Voted hot 🏻 (edited)

    What is the subscription for?
    is it necessary ?

Subscription is for recording. Without it you can only view a live feed of the doorbell/camera.

I'm wondering why video doorbells need a subscription ?

It's mentioned in other posts. You don't need it to make the doorbell work. The sub enables you to view stored videos, so if you need to see who it was calling at a given time in the past you can access all the stored video clips. Works well.

I have this and it's has not rusted and annual sub was around 35. Absolutely worth it, one of the best things I have bought

Basic sub is £35 - then looking at £80 to upgrade... Research corroding Ring Gen 2 doorbells plus Ring will only offer a 10% discount off a new item - they will not replace

This is a good price. Do yourself a favour, though, get the power adapter, as it's a bit of a pain removing the thing when you need to charge the battery. The ones we have are under a canopy, so sheltered from the weather. No hint of rusting. Only really need the upgraded subscription if you have multiple devices. For one doorbell, the basic one is fine.

Ordered yesterday....delivered today and fitted ...
Really impressed with the picture quality and wide field of view ....also on the plus side I had a solar panel from a previous doorbell that's connected and charging the ring ....
Most places have just the doorbell at this price so the extra bell chime makes this a bargain

Yes it's in the US, yes we all carry around tracking devices with us at all times but there's something overtly sinister about how these are being used/managed.
