About this deal
This deal is expired. Here are some options that might interest you:
This has to be an overlooked deal! Refurb/used (very good) HP EliteBook 745 G5 for £118.99.
Key features:
You might expect me to say this is great as I posted it but this blows past anything else in this price range and for under £120 is unmatched, this offers greater value than the ThinkPad X280 (fixed RAM, possible HD TN display) posted. I have used this chassis many times in the past and it is a true beauty as it the entire exterior is aluminium alloy and the inputs (k/b and touchpad) are up there with £1k machines today, genuinely one of my favourite HP systems of recent years (it is closely related to the Intel-based EliteBook 830/840/850 G5/6 series).
I think people see Ryzen 3 and skip it but it is a true QUAD-core not a dual (like the lower 2200U), the chip is a little dated but not really any worse than 8th gen i5/7 which are still respected and usable today. The only possible downside is no official Windows 11 support (but I still use 10), the seller has preinstalled, licensed Windows 11 Professional though.
I bought two before posting because this is a steal. They also have a Ryzen 5 2500U available for £161.49 but I don't think the extra is worth it unless you need 8 threads. They are also selling the older G3 and G4 for more than the G5.
Key features:
- Ryzen 3 2300U is a true quad-core APU (no SMT so 4C/4T) that is miles ahead of Bulldozer and scores closely to an i5-8250U (Passmark), not far off the Ryzen 5 2500U or Ryzen 7 2700U, on the Ryzen 3 all you are missing is some clockspeed and SMT
- EliteBook 745 G5 offers a full metal alloy chassis, lid, undertray and palmrest that looks and feels great, it is one of my favourite HP designs and is a premium machine that holds up today
- 2 RAM slots that are user accessible - I would expect 1x8GB to be installed so get another 8GB DDR4 stick from CEX if you want 16GB and dual-channel (approx £15)
- 256GB SSD
- 14.0" full HD IPS panel - they are only IPS, there are no TN options, expect to get the 250 nits, 45% panel but it's not a bad display at all
- AMD Radeon RX Vega 6 graphics which should beat the equivalent in the 8th gen Intel chips of the era, it'll run Fortnite, Rocket League, Roblox, etc.
- Fingerprint sensor (bottom-right)
- HP says up to 11 hours battery but it should still perform well even used
- One of the best keyboards you can find (HP EliteBook series are very stiff with great response and little bounce) and an etched glass touchpad that is super smooth and precise. Their stock imagery shows a backlit keyboard but it is optional - you can fit one yourself later if required
- USB C port that can be used to charge the laptop
- Seller lists as very good condition (grade B I would think) - and they are respected, 1 year warranty too

sorted byHP annoyingly called this the 745 series not 840 like the Intel ones which made people think it was inferior. As of the G7 onwards, they called the Intel the 840 and the AMD version the 845, similar to Lenovo and Dell (5 at the end signifies AMD CPU).
More annoying is the laptop was enterprise activation locked, I have had to call them to get this sorted and they are looking into it for me - I suggest you double-check, it will be obvious though as you will get stuck during Windows 11 setup when it asks you to sign-in with a company account and you won't be able to proceed.
If this comes in good condition it'll be ideal. Cheers!
Can't wait till I get it lol
Thanks
It (this offering) would have done me a treat, had I not sorted meself out a few weeks ago, via (qwerty-laptops) ebay, AND I did the same for a friend last week, also from "qwerty".
I can honestly say once you have used an EliteBook you will never want to go back to anything less - they are the benchmark of business laptop quality.
If there's an alternative of a similar spec and price would someone mine posting it? Cheers. (edited)
Otherwise they have the Ryzen 5 version in stock at £161 but it’s not worth the extra £42, though given this is out of stock, in its own right, it is still decent:

Just read the authors description... Now I wish I was here 5hrs ago and bought this laptop. I'm happy with the T280 though but this is cheaper and sounds as good or better (edited)
The Lenovo ThinkPad X280 is fine, I’ve had them before, they are smaller and lighter but fixed RAM, the touchpads aren’t as good (plastic and a bit scratchy) and they can have basic TN HD displays, good keyboards though. Whereas almost the entire HP EliteBook range has full HD IPS panels by default, a metal body that looks and feels like an ultra high-end machine and a beautifully smooth etched glass touchpad (it’s about on par with a MacBook).
So nothing wrong with the X280 but I would have this if I had a limited budget and had to pick. If the X280 wasn’t available, I’d look for another EliteBook, the ThinkPad T480 or Dell Latitude 7390/7490 or 7300/7400.
I didn’t need another laptop but this is one of my favourite designs to come from HP and it really is a nice machine to use (comfortable keyboard and touchpad, solid chassis, decent display). I hope it lives up to everyone else’s expectations too.
Has anyone else received the same message from the seller?
I suggest doing a fresh install of Windows 11. I was able to do this - after a bit of BIOS wrangling to disable secure boot DON'T RESET SECURE BOOT KEYS!! - and upon reaching the OOBE setup, there was no corporation lock. It behaved entirely as a standard Windows install.
I suggest downloading and installing the latest AMD chipset and RADEON Adrenaline drivers.
Interestingly, despite not being on the official Windows 11 compatibility list with this CPU, Win 11 installs from a standard ISO with no issues.
I can also report that Ubuntu 22.04 LTS dual boots with Win 11 beautifully. (edited)
Spund settings then speakers and then shows this blue screen everything and restarts.
Anyone else getting this?
Any fixes?
Don't want to send it back cause I'm in love with it!

Didn't think much of the support, they took these back but as in the other thread, blacklisted future purchases...
