You can get this for £519.80 if you remove the OS and install your own OS (can get for free as well but it will have a watermark) or put a Linux on it etc.

Is it really a deal if this is the price it should be anyway? 13inches, 16gb ram (lol), no discrete gpu and they wanted £1200 for it? lol (edited)

This is a quality machine. If you need to ask - it’s not for you. Do some research. (edited)

What makes this a good deal?

For the RRP its meant to have traded at would have expected dedicated graphics and better hardware surely?

seems like an average price for a barely average laptop?

If it's anything like other Thinkpads I've had, this will still be working perfectly well in a decade's time.

Good luck getting that from a gaming laptop at around the £600 price point. (edited)

There is a 10% discount welcome copoun which does not work for some reason for it

I asked about this and they told me as the laptop is already on 50% discount so the welcome coupon won"t work.

I needed this price and this machine 2 years ago. Mentioning that if only I can add more ram would take this over loads of other laptops. They should be top machines

Unfortunately RAM is soldered and not upgradable

Thinkpad build quality, or the 2.2k screen of the Ideapad pro at a similar price... hmm....

Is this a decent CPU? How does this compare to intels equivalent? (edited)

    Runs cooler than Intel.

Would this be sick for games

If it felt sick it probably wouldn't be very good at anything.

Avoid, soldiered ram, you'll regret it in some years. I do, my 8GB is too low

To be honest while I don't disagree with avoiding soldered RAM, the figure in this machine is about what people should be expecting to do most day to day tasks that a machine like this will be used for, 24/32 for most people will be wasted. For software development use at work I have a machine that has 16GB (not my choice) and while it's not ideal it's workable. I also have the same amount in my gaming PC and personal laptop. For most use cases it's fine, I'll be upgrading all of mine with the crash in prices but I think prices will dip a little more before I do.

The bigger issue is manufacturers who started offering 16GB over 10 years ago when that was the minimum recommended, then around the time of Covid they dropped the standard amount offered on mid range machines to 8GB for 'reasons' and all the sales adverts were how machines had 'huge' amounts of RAM despite it being half of what machines had even a decade ago. It was a cash grab that's generated huge amounts of e-waste and not much else.

Where do you get os from

Try one of the many key sites? (Not sure they'd like me mentioning them by name here?)

You should be able to pick up Windows 11 Pro for less than a tenner (it'll be a corp key but will work fine. This should feel naughtier, but I'm having a hard time feeling bad about Microsoft making slightly less money).

This is how I buy Office etc as well btw. None of that 365 subscription nonsense (unless you absolutely need everything it offers, and then by all means rent away). (edited)

How good is this CPU, what Intel CPU is it comparable too?

Although need a full soze keyboard so probably need something a tad bigger.

Mine has heavy coil whine inside the body. It sounds like an old hard drive even you do nothing and powered by battery/plug in. Is this a common problem or only mine?
