A word of warning- we don't know where we stand with chiplet RDNA3 gen 1. The so-called tech site 'leakers' are full of BS, and outside of a few genuine slides from industry briefings, have nothing useful to say.

What we do know is that AMD has launched new RDNA3 cards in the pro-segment, with significantly lower power usage at the same specs. This suggests a respin, and a fixing of one of the known problems of gen1 GPU chiplet production. If this is so, the current desktop RDNA3 parts are even less desirable.

There is current debate as to whether the GPU chiplet in the 7900XT desktop card is also going to be used in the 7800XT- this is down to the specs of the pro 7800XT, which people claim has specs that can only be explained if it is using the same chip as the 7900XT. Previously, 'leakers' claimed they had the specs of a NEW chiplet designed for the 7800XT (whose specs were, frankly, too low to make sense, given the existence of the cheaper to make 6800 family with similar performance and better driver support).

Personally I think AMD is now dumping off the cheaper gen1 7900XT- it has proven to be more of a early experiment in GPU chiplet design for AMD, and clearly needs a next gen RDNA4 to overcome all of its short-falls. When people talk of poor VR support (RDNA2 is great at VR- see babeltech), it is a symptom of the 7900xt having so many driver issues, AMD only focuses on making it work with current AAA games, and fixing its power sub-systems. Everything else is not a priority for AMD, who is busy with the next zens, the next RDNA, and the coming console revisions, and console next-gens.

And the ONLY reason this card seems a deal here is because of the absolutely terrible state of Nvidia at this moment- just as Intel's lousy business practices helped make zen1 a big success back in the day.

Harbringer of Doom I see lol. honestly don’t see what the problem is. Power efficiency is better than 6950xt. Idle power draw a bit high but negligible on your energy bills. Stop being negative. Excellent deal been waiting for £750 for a while. Heat added (edited)

4070 in a DLSS title will match the 7900XT and draw less power at the same time. A 4070 for £580 is a better deal IMHO.
    Eptesicus's avatar
    Eptesicus
It's significantly more powerful than a 4070, and will likely last longer too. 12gb is going to likely be a rather limiting in a year or two. (edited)

NO- GPU prices are coming down, and at an increasing rate. Too much stock, too little generational improvement, horrific over-pricing, and a general need to move stock if the retail sector is to maintain an interest in even handling GPUs. These price cycles are very common in popular parts of high-tech - CPUs, RAM, Flash, even MBs (which are at a high at the moment).

Just returned a 4070 Ti with Overclockers for coil whine and got a refund. Saw this for £100 less and have decided to get this instead. Seems like a good price with the free game.

If this is not a deal, then could you post a better deal in a reply? You cant? Right.

This is about £200 over priced, but its as good as it gets for now. Almost matches the 6950xt deal in price performance if you sell the game for a good price. It has advantages over the 6950xt though, like better ray tracing, extra 4gb vram and running slightly cooler. (edited)

Would you upgrade to this from a 3070ti? I mostly play FPSes at 4k 120Hz, but my GPU has pretty severe dips at times e.g. in Apex Legends. This would definitely be more suitable for 4k - the 3070ti's VRAM is stretched to the max most of the time I'm playing games. £750 is what I paid for the 3070ti in the first place and in comparison this is far, far superior. Not sure whether it's worth bearing with my current card and just hoping for cheaper prices next generation, though. Any thoughts?

depends on the games you play tbh anything with dlss and rtx is where nvidia really starts to pull ahead. If it was me I would just waiting for prices on the the 4000 series to drop as they seem pretty efficient with power/fps but prices are out of wack atm.

You can get the nitro+ from ocuk for £799 and if you have complete saving you can get 10% cashback as well, making it cheaper than this reference model on Amazon. The reference is the same price on ocuk too (£749), again with potential 10% cashback. (edited)

The 7900 XT is probably worth the extra. It is 5%-25% faster (depending upon game/resolution), offers significantly better Ray Tracing performance, draws less power, includes dual hardware encoding IC's for H264/H265/AV1 (closing the gap to NVidia's NVENC), and should obtain better resale values.

This is a great price when compared to the hyper-inflated GPU-pricing of the past 3-years.

However, all current-gen cards have an over-supply problem. Almost all retailers have large stocks of 7900 & 4000-series cards. Put simply, these are not being sold as quickly as they are being produced. It is speculated that NVIDIA may soon cut 4070/4070TI/4080 RRP's to $499/$699/$999. This will force further 7900 cuts. something tells me new 5 series nvidia and 8 series AMD are going to be overpriced.

I'm just comparing it with other HUKD electronics on here and it seems that this year (post covid) everything is inflated and normally the time when this stuff is meant to come down it doesnt and instead stays at RRP or higher price.

    Lets hope not eh!

Nvidia's just said its stopping production of the 4070 for a month, "so pricing becomes more stable" which in reality is that people are not buying them at the price Nvidia thinks they're worth.
    _Achilles_'s avatar
    _Achilles_
The problem is, those coin clowns can no longer generate using graphics cards, so the cards are being sold off cheap and Nvidia is taking a big loss right now, so prices are dropping and they're stopping manufacturing of certain cards.

    pcworld.com/article/1431755/amd-radeon-rx-7900-xtx-radeon-rx-7900-xt-review-rdna-3.html

FSR 3.0 still to be released. This is a decent card for the money.

"Bottom line? AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 XT and XTX deliver staggering performance, ample memory, easy compatibility, and software features galore for far less than Nvidia’s latest. They may not unseat the RTX 4090 as the towering raw performance champion, especially if you’re interested in ray tracing, but unlike Nvidia’s price-jacked yet performance-lacking RTX 4080, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX offers stunning value over its predecessor for the same price as before. The 7900 XT, on the other hand, delivers worse value than the flagship and no doubt would’ve been called the 7800 XT (and sold for significantly less) if Nvidia hadn’t already pushed pricing to insane levels with the RTX 4080. Neither the 4080 nor the 7900 XT are particularly appealing at these prices. If you’re already considering spending $899 for the XT, we’d advise saving up some extra pennies and grabbing the $999 XTX instead if you can. It offers a lot more performance in some situations, like Cyberpunk 2077 with ray tracing enabled."
