sorted byBut I just did a quick calculation to see how much of a saving I would get choosing a 20w DC fan vs thus 40w fan.
Assuming 34p/kwh and my usage of 10 hours every day, so 280 hours per month
40w would cost me £3.80/m and £45.60/y
20w would cost me £1.90/m - £22.80/y
The meaco 20w dc fan from costco is £90, this one is £13.
so with a £77 difference in price. To break even, it means 77/22.80 = 3.4 years of usage.
With my usage in a dusty environment the fans normally die every year after I have repaired them a few times. If a fan lasted 3.4 years I could be pretty impressive. I'm not sure that the savings would really pay for itself within a meaningful timeframe which is a shame as it does feel wrong to throw one of these out every year
If anything it seems slightly high for a small fan
