50729174-e9jdV.jpgI just bought my second one of these about 30 minutes ago at Argos. I paid £82 +£4 delivery. I don't have a Costco near me or an account with them so I'm cool with paying the extra few quid. I'm so glad I can now have one in the living room and the bedroom. Only bought the first one about a month ago and it fits on a window sill nicely. Definitely not as bulky as I thought it would be.

Insane deal. As mentioned, they’re obviously clearing them because of our poor summer however, air circulators are very useful in the winter too! Like our fan ovens and air fryers, convection makes heating more efficient.

I run my Meaco fans all-year round. (edited)

I'm going to use the second one I've ordered for a few things. One is to dry clothes a lot quicker using it with my Meaco dehumidifier. And the other is to shift the warmest air off the ceiling in the winter and hopefully make my flat a little warmer. It will do that on the lowest setting (1), and they're so energy efficient it's practicily free to run them. On setting highest setting (12) it would use less than 1p every 4 hours according to Meaco if you're electricity is £0.34p per kWh. (edited)

Are they better than dyson fans?
    YinYang's avatar
I had a Dyson AM07 and switched to a Meaco 1056P. To me, the Meaco is better in pretty much every way.

The Meaco is much cheaper. It's quieter while shifting more air. It can oscillate up and down as well as left and right (the Dyson only does left and right). It has more functions/modes.

One thing I disliked about the AM07 is that there was no easy way to take it apart to clean it. Air is sucked in through vents at the base, which then gets circulated around the main loop amplifier section, but there's no filter to help prevent dust getting in (there is on some more expensive models), and it's really not designed to be user serviceable. It is very easy to remove the Meaco's fan blades to give them a wipe down, as you only need to remove 2 Philips screws and a locking nut that you undo with your fingers, and the motor is a sealed unit.

The only advantage the Dyson has is that it has no traditional blades (it still has a regular fan in the base), but it's not like you can inadvertently touch the Meaco's blades anyway.

Also, my AM07 started to make a whining noise after a few months of use. It wasn't super loud, but it was enough to be annoying, particularly when using it at night while trying to sleep. It was replaced under warranty, but the replacement started to do the exact same thing and Dyson wouldn't replace it again. I've had my Meaco for around 14 months and have had no issues at all. I picked up a couple of the Pedestal ones today. Initial impressions are very disappointed - it's nowhere near as good as I was expecting especially given the RRP and how people always go on about these online...

It's alot shorter than I was expecting aswell and the build quality is really cheap and nasty for the price. It's super light and feels like a cheap toy. It's very quiet on the lowest setting and also when it oscillates which is a positive I guess (but hardly any air being blown on lowest setting) but for me the biggest disappointment is the amount of air it moves on Max. On Max it's absolutely rubbish IMO. I was expecting it to be super powerful...

I currently use a Rowenta VU5670 Turbo Silence Extreme fan at night in the bedroom (which I ordered from Amazon Italy years ago) and that thing is a million times better than this and way way more powerful which I wasn't expecting. This thing on max is like that on low.

Just checked something to make sure I'm not imagining this and found even on paper it's rubbish. On Max setting this Meaco 'air circulator' moves only 972 cubic feet of air per min. Just saw that Rowenta fan moves 2,436 cubic feet of air per min... (edited)

Had the same response, currently fighting with argos for a refund
  6. SebK's avatar
Does it also heat up the room ?
    Somersett's avatar
All fans HEAT a room. Their engine produces heat energy. A fan only cools a person if that person has surface moisture (sweat). One can apply cold water to the face and neck to get the benefit of a fan.
  7. rash's avatar
80 quid for a fan, seems a bit pricey, screwfix have a pedestal one for 21 quid, not the sturdiest but more than adequate.

Can someone explain why this is 4x the price (other than it's better quality)?
    YinYang's avatar
The Screwfix one only has 3 speeds. It only oscillates horizontally. It has no remote control, nor other features. It has a standard 12 month warranty.

The Meaco has 12 speeds. It oscillates both vertically and horizontally. It has a remote control, 4 different main modes, both on and off timers, a temperature gauge, and a digital display. It has a 2 year warranty.

I've not used that specific Screwfix one, but the reason I ended up buying more expensive fans is because all of the cheap pedestal fans I bought were noisy. Obviously if you crank the Meaco up to its higher levels, it will get fairly noisy too, but at the lower levels it's really quiet, so it's ideal for using at night when you're trying to sleep.

Best price I've ever seen on this. Got 3 in the house, they are brilliant bits of kit.
  9. Robbo77's avatar
These are great fans. Looks like everyone's trying to shift them due to the terrible summer we're having. Could see further price reductions?
    haines1997's avatar
Fingers crossed, although I'm doubtful as this is apparently the lowest ever price since 2018 - but never know if Costco can't clear their stocks (edited)
  10. haines1997's avatar
Has anyone tried this with their dehumidifier? They have a video saying it's good to use the fan with it... Thinking it might be good in the winter months when nothing can dry outside....
    Milky_Joe's avatar
We've got a meaco dehumidifier and we put our washing on an airer close to it and thin sheet over the top of the airer seem to dry it v quickly.

We've not tried the meaco fan on it as its usually away in winter. (edited)
  11. hhhh732's avatar
Anyone know of any retailers that would price match? Ideally with free shipping too.

I'm eyeing the pedestal version but I don't have a Costco membership, and it's OOS in the Argos near me.
    donnyorourke's avatar
You can get a Costco gift card and use that for single time entry.....so works out cheaper if doing a single visit.

Does anyone know if Costco  sell the Meaco 10" Pedestal inside the store ?
    nick666's avatar
Yes they do. Sorry, didn't check the price but there were a lot of them next to these ones in Sheffield.
  13. haines1997's avatar
Tempted to buy and then use Costco's 30 day price adjustment if they do end up lowering it.... Hmmmm.

So very disappointed. I came to laugh at the usual comments you get on these deals (My £10 fan from B&M is every bit as good as this overpriced one). Why are they not here?

Bought one of the pedestal ones from the Argos deal the other day and it’s going back makes a horrible whining noise even when on lowest setting which is meant to be quiet.

Meaco told me to run it for 8 hours on speed 4 or higher and on full oscillation to lubricate the motor but it hasn’t fixed the issue.
    ajavaid92's avatar
Likely a defective unit, I'm afraid. Get a replacement, you won't regret it.

  35. DealBandit1's avatar
Probably worth changing the title because the price doesn’t vary from £64.99 to £77.98. They are posting the pre-VAT price. It’s a £10 discount from what it was about a month ago when it was posted.
  36. cascadde's avatar
Is there much benefit to the pedestal? like £50 more seems a lot for just a pole
    Hitme's avatar
Think it’s just £30 at the minute. We have both fans (and just ordered another), the pedestal version is in the bedroom so the airflow is felt better on the bed. If you had something to stand the standard fan on then you wouldn’t need the pedestal. Just depends where you want to place it really.

Just price matched Currys against Argos so i'm happy now. Hope they are as good as they say!
  39. Somersett's avatar
If you haven't seen them, the new battery powered neck fans are a great personal solution, especially if you are working around the house (like cleaning) on a hot day. Your natural continual sweat, when continually evaporated by the worn fan, keeps you cool where you feel it the most.
  40. sirmusclealot's avatar
Seems quite a lot for a fan? Why wouldn't you just get something cheaper and spend the rest on ice cream, beer or a day out?

    amazon.co.uk/Hon…T6/
    Newbold's avatar
Maybe because there are plenty of people in here who are quite happy to buy a better quality, longer lasting and therefore less environmentally damaging, more effective, quieter fan like this extremely well reviewed by Which? one. And who can still manage all those other things too.
