How much does an MOT cost? The maximum amount car owners can be charged for their MOT is £54.85, while for motorcycles, the limit is £29.65. That’s because in the UK, the cost of MOTs is regulated by the government.
The amount an MOT costs generally increases depending on the number of passengers transported by the vehicle. MOTs for buses with more than 16 seats that need every seatbelt checking can cost up to £124.50, for instance.

What is an MOT?An MOT is a mandatory test that makes sure your car meets environmental, safety and roadworthiness standards. They ensure all cars on the road are passing standards designed to protect people, infrastructure and the wider environment.
An MOT is required three years after your car was first registered and then every year afterwards, on or up to the anniversary of the first MOT test. MOTs have been a legal requirement since 1960.
Do you need an MOT?Every vehicle that’s three years old or over needs an MOT test certificate and you must renew this once a year. If you have a car, it is your responsibility to make sure it is re-examined annually.
In addition to the obvious safety and performance issues, if you don’t have a valid MOT certificate you cannot legally drive your car on the road and you won’t be able to renew your road tax. You also face the risk of being fined up to £1,000 for driving a car that doesn’t have a valid certificate.
If your car is involved in any kind of accident, you could be asked to show your MOT certificate. If you don’t have one, your insurance claim may be affected, especially if an injury is involved.
The DVSA has also computerised the MOT test system. This means mobile camera units and police patrols can check remotely to determine whether there is a valid MOT certificate associated with your car. All of this means it’s highly likely you need an MOT.

Had mine done in Guildford (edited)
Then you need to consider how much a genuine repair will cost, its ok having a cheaper test but to get a free re test the centre need to carry out repairs, so changing brake pads, discs, wiper blades can all be costing alot more than at a local garage wheen you pay £50 for the test and then alot less for labour to rectify any problems.
This is just general comment that I have seen with promotions at Kwik Fit, ATS, halfords etc.. Not aimed at Protyre as never used them (edited)

IM also in for a wheel alignment
And places that sell cars that do their own MOTs are the opposite! (edited)
If I could get a time machine for about £10, I'd be quids in.
Only trouble is they're very popular so getting in can be difficult at times.
What I'm saying is - don't just go off the name - it's the garage that owns the franchise that matter. If they're shisters then they will be bad. If they're good, they will be good anyway.
HUKD can be very useful when the comments are specific and from people that have used the service on offer. (edited)
They don't try and sell me anything extra, in fact last time they charged me half the price for alignment as they only had to adjust one side. Almost every other garage would have charged full whack regardless.
I know it all depends on the actual centre local to you, but get on good terms with them and use them regularly and you should be good.
Oh just seen - I was also trying to book Bushey!
Sailed through for £17.90 at tyremark caterham
