Check hotel prices before you book.....

We did a New England Fall road trip in 2018 in early October. That is pretty much peak time.

Fancied doing the same this year and accomodation prices are in the region of 5 times higher.

    That is not a typo!

A nice B&B we stopped at in New Hampshire is one example. We paid $99+tax for a superior room, The price on the same day for a basic room is now $549+tax.

Definitely recommend checking hotel prices before you book, but also worth mentioning that if you can be flexible with your route or travel dates, you can still do a fall foliage tour for a reasonable cost.

We were shocked at some of the inital prices we found when planning a tour last year (compared to the cost a few years earlier), but when we reversed our route it ended up being substantially cheaper! Worth playing around with a few options as sometimes staying somewhere in the same place even a day or two earlier/later can make a big difference to the prices quoted.

Meh reviews for all airlines on trustpilot are to be taken with a pinch of salt. I'm sure Ryanair reviews are terrible but they still carry thousands upon thousands of customers a day safely.

If you do fly with Norse and want the premium seats, check and compare their 3 premium options because sometimes it's cheaper to get the cheapest premium which excludes hold luggage but can be added for £60 whereas the 'better' premium option that includes hold luggage is about £80 more and doesn't have anything extra over the more basic premium.

Seat reservation is not cheap either so factor that in, if it matters (£28 for middle aisle, £40 for others, £78 for the most roomy seats...per flight. (edited)

Decent price but a big believer in "you get what you pay for". Paid similar a few years ago to fly LHR to EWR with Primera. Got out there ok, coming back was an absolute nightmare. Delayed, went up and something was wrong with the plane so we circled for a about a couple of hours before landing again (realised this was to burn off the fuel in case we had a bad landing), spent 24 hours in the airport, no offer of hotel - and the flight was a night flight. I was awake over 2 days, rescheduled flight kept getting bumped so I got an uber to JFK and a virgin flight home for £1400. Primera said they'd cover up to €1500 compensation. Applied when I got back, lots of back and forth and then they went bust. CAA didn't care either.

Don't fly budget long haul, lesson well and truly learned 😁 (edited)

wow bad indeed.... I had an issue with Norwegian when they did the flights to USA before they went bankrupt.... with only 1 flight a day (and some days no flights) - my flight from Boston got delayed and after 4 hours they said plane fixed but crew out of hours, so they did get all 300 of us into hotels and paid for (except the breakfast) - and flew out 24 hours later... I claimed for costs under the EU rules and after they initially refused, they did pay out for the flight... then went bankrupt not long after.

I should mention that Norse are owned by Norwegian, the same Norwegian that ran those transatlantic flights and went broke.

I'm willing to risk it - my LGW to Boston in premium is £580 round trip - for economy from LHR to Boston with BA or Virgin is around £1000... double price, economy, £100 taxi to Heathrow....so it's all about risk vs reward for me/ (edited)

Never had a problem flying with them, on board service is as you'd expect. I'd rate a cheap flight with them over some of the other ones that regularly popup as a hot deal with a 3 hour changeover from 1-4am - now that is awful.

Not a bad price but adding checked luggage you may as well go with AL direct and with 23kg included.....and from Manny as an alternative too, Norse dont have brill reviews either...

    Sorry, what is AL?

New York has gone back to being a crime ridden cess pit.

The price shoots up if you want to reserve a seat as well (looked for NYC in September)

It's disgraceful that husband and wife can't be certain of adjacent seats.

How do I make sure my wife is seated elsewhere?

Annoyed we booked our flights last week.

    Could have saved £100pp.
    spannerzone's avatar
Damn that's annoying... I booked mine 3 weeks ago when they had a sale...a week later the prices doubled...now they're back being half price again. You can't win sometimes!

Is there a supplement if I want to go from LHR?
    t0mm's avatar
Yes, the national express to Gatwick

Does this airline provide food and IFE?? Or is it like Ryanair??

    Anything for LAx
    spannerzone's avatar
Yes, Gatwick to LAX are available. Cheapest is £356 but excludes food, luggage, carry on... yes even a carry on is extra. If you want food, luggage and carry included it's £498 if flying out 11th Sept and return 18th other dates are dearer. (edited)
