I had insurance already - just upgraded my cover. Calls are recorded, and they said I'd be covered, so just hoping for the best. Cautiously concerned still, but think it'll be alright.

Did you get an ATOL certificate when booking ? That's will cover your losses without any excess. I got all my money back when monarch folded a couple of years ago.

yozzman1234

I love Aruba . But it's not hugely popular compared to Barbados, St Lucia and Antigua so you can grab some decent offers. November to March is high season in the Caribbean. That's when hotels cost more . I prefer cruising the Caribbean as it's the best of both worlds . Seeing around 10 islands , and having different beaches each day and unreal food on the ship .

katecramb42bff

Not necessarily, few years ago I booked seperately to Aruba, was on the same TUI flight as the people at the hotel but saved a couple of hundred quid a person, just had to hop in a taxi from the airport rather than the Thomson transport.

yozzman1234

The problem with these cheap flights to the popular Caribbean destinations are that bog standard 2-3 star accommodation costs of fortune and then trying to book a top hotel like sandals or similar is astronomical. That's why it always works out better getting a package holiday to the Caribbean.

i've just booked to go to vegas for the NFL draft, paid £380 in April. this is a very good price, never seen it this low. Just dont forget to factor your resort tax into your stay budget (mine was $35 a night) as it can make a significant difference to your budget! try harrahs/ excalibur for a relatively budget hotel on the strip in a fairly decent location :-)

JCP11

We can't use this deal, this is bat country!

att_666

I booked it......£265. 82, the tax was 232,50, so BA gets 33.30ish.....It has to be so wrong that it is mostly tax, this is just not right. I have business to do, so it was convenient for me and I don`t like Vegas, it is crass.....Thankfully I shall be going to Moab the day after and not returning until the Tuesday for the Weds flight back, so two nights in hell ;)

Would love to pay.the fine to take kids out of school just another slight problem the wife is a teacher 😪😪😪😪

Mary_Mary

I work in a primary school. They can't fine you until a child has 10 unauthorised absent registration periods (2 periods counts as 1 day). Sick days and medical appointments are not included within this and unauthorised is where the head has either rejected a request or a parent/ guardian has failed to explain an absence within a reasonable timeframe. Also, you are correct, it is per child and per session missed. Like you said, the school use their discretion as to how quickly they bring in the fines and I am sure schools with lower attendance figures will look to do it sooner. Also, from experience, if a child has a good attendance record and they miss a day or two when younger, schools are generally accepting on a one off however if their attendance is not great then it is likely they will reject and list as unauthorised. I personally have seen a letter where a parent wrote they were taking their child away and parts of the holiday would be educational, plus in addition they offered to cover any missed work / homework there so it was approved for a few days. As others have said, accepting a fine still works out cheaper than going during term time for some people.

Azwipe

Wrong, the fine (or more correctly Tax) is per unauthorised absence, per child, per parent. Doesn't matter if the absence is one day or one month. Of course schools have a little discretion but not much, you certainly won't avoid it by saying a holiday is educational. The real purpose of the charge is to raise revenue that is why they don't care as long as you pay the money on time.

rimalpatel007

Can you pay the fine so we can enjoy this holiday? XD

maxmax

Its cheaper to pay the school fine than book on school holidays :|
