Third-Gen RT Cores

Up to 2x ray tracing performance

TORX FAN 4.0

TORX FAN 4.0 is built on teamwork, with pairs of fan blades bound together with a linked outer ring design that focuses airflow into the Dual-Fan cooling system.

METAL BACKPLATE

Thermal pads under the sturdy aluminum backplate provide additional cooling while the flow-through ventilation reduces trapped heat.

ZERO FROZR

The fans completely stop when temperatures are relatively low, eliminating all noise when active cooling is not needed. The fans will automatically start spinning again when the heat is on during gaming.

FUSE

Additional fuses built into the custom PCB provide additional safeguards against electrical damage.

A bit closer to the price it should have launched at. Probably worth waiting and seeing how the 7700 XT and 7800 XT reviews pan out tomorrow though at this point. If they're decent then they should force prices down on these.

AMD and NVidia along with Intel and Apple and Google etc are all majority owned by the same group of companies, there will never be an outright winner, they won't allow it.
look up blackrock, state street vanguard etc, they are majority shareholders in pretty much every company worth anything across the entire planet. Between them the market is pushed to maximise profits and relieve us of our money. (edited)

    COLD just for saying 'Ngreedia'.

Assume this card would be functionally bottlenecked by it's generally poor design well before running out of VRAM.

Is there any way, in gaming, to gain an advantage from having surplus VRAM?
    Aretak's avatar
People have a fundemental misunderstanding of how "bottlenecks" work. Of course this card isn't going to hold up for long on Ultra settings across the board (hell, it doesn't even now in many new releases). However, the beauty of PC gaming is that you don't just have to pick a broad preset and stick to it. You can tweak things to the strengths and weaknesses of your hardware. You can turn down effects that are demanding on core or RT resources, yet still keep the textures set to Ultra if you have enough VRAM. Dropping texture quality is often one of the most destructive things you can do when it comes to overall image quality. This card, for all its faults, will be able to keep on using the highest texture settings on everything for the forseeable future. Many games look better with everything on Low and textures on Ultra than they do with everything else on Ultra and textures on Low. Red Dead Redemption 2 is a good example of that.

There are also observable situations even now where the 4060 Ti CAN deliver playable framerates on higher settings presets, but the 8GB version runs out of VRAM and crumples. Meanwhile the 16GB version powers through. Daniel Owen did a good video on that subject with extensive testing:

Taking the Resident Evil 4 remake as an example, the 8GB 4060 Ti delivers a 67fps average at 1440p on max settings, which sounds great and perfectly playable. However, it's also a stutterfest with 1% lows of 31fps due to it running out of VRAM. Meanwhile the 16GB version not only increases the average to 73fps, but more importantly also more than doubles the 1% lows to 66fps. Clearly in such a scenario the 8GB card's performance is ruined by nothing other than its shortage of VRAM, with the core otherwise being able to deliver a smooth and playable experience.

So yes, there are very much advantages to having "surplus" VRAM in many situations. Don't fall for Nvidia's marketing lies about how it makes no difference.

Can't decide whether to upgrade from a 3060ti. Can sell the old card for around £300 so it's around £50 for a 20% performance increase and also gaining a large amount of ram and newer DLSS. Not sure if I can be bothered though and would prefer a good price on a 4070
    Chz's avatar
20% performance increase is the best you can see. More commonly, it's in the 10% range and there are some particularly pathological games that are actually slower. Yes, this 4060Ti has 16GB of RAM, but the bandwidth to the rest of the system is quite a lot lower than it is with the 3060Ti. I really can't see any case at all to "upgrade" 3060Ti to 4060Ti unless it's pretty much free or you really, really need the lower power draw for a silent PC.
  6. DarkyR7's avatar
Honestly £300 seems like a 'fair' price and this still feels too high.

Although if I were building a pc in the current GPU pricing climate, it's relatively good. Heat
    Openttdbeer's avatar
Doesn't seem a bad deal at all.

Around the same performance (without DLSS) as a 6750 XT 12GB, which is £339.84 but it has 33% more VRAM. So 33% more VRAM for 9% more cash. If you're playing NVidia optimised titles with DLSS support then it's a pretty good card.

Even if Nvidia feels threaten by the new AMD, there hardly going to knock 20% off, let alone the 15% this code gives, so if nvidia do reduce it will be higher then this, and the only way for it be lower then this cost if that then double stacks, i.e Nvidia reduces and then there is another code like this ebuyer ebay code, problem is ebuyer isnt always on the codes every month, 10% was august, 15% early sept, before that it was march/april.

so lets hope to aspects: they do feel threaten, and then we gotta wait for that code again.

The £430 price is already Nvidia dropping the price to match the rx7700xt:
    extremetech.com/gam…pus

This week the rx7700xt and rx7800xt are released. RRP probably about £430 and £480 with a free copy of Starfield premium. Leaked benchmarks put the rx7700xt 15% faster than this and the rx7800xt about an rtx4070. (edited)

Please, please stop saying 'Ngreedia'. It sounds so childish.

Anyways, this will be the first and probably only time I'll support a 40 series deal. At least for the near future. This is 'ok', though still not good. Wouldn't expect to see a deal like this again for a while, so I guess take advantage if you really need a new part.

Just remember, the 4060Ti in terms of raw performance is barely better than 3060Ti, and because of the low bandwidth, actually gets worse at higher resolutions. It's a terrible product for something with this name and typical price. The efficiency benefits, DLSS3 and extra RAM are really the only draw here. (edited)

So an RTX 4060 Ti has 16GB RAM but the RTX 4070 and 4070Ti have 12GB. Amazing Nvidia well done. Just like RTX 3060 12GB and RTX 3070 8GB.
    Czubaka's avatar
That's because the 16gb is the afterthought. They crammed the extra memory in the clamshell design keeping the same bandwidth. At the end of the day, it's not a bad product - just the pricing a bit inadequate.
  11. mikesunboxing's avatar
damn just bought a rx6800 for the same money, this might have been a better option for me with Premiere Pro
    fishmaster's avatar
Aye Nvidia is better for productivity tasks they have the clear lead in that respect.
  12. Hayley94x's avatar
just went on youtube, this card is slightly worse than a 3070.

good price still, but didnt expect the performance to be so poor.
    NoSocks's avatar
the issue is the memory bus bandwidth - the 3070 has 256bit but the 4060ti has only 128bit - as a result, from the benchmarks I have seen, the performance of the two cards are virtually identical. I wouldn't bother updating from a 3070 to a 4060ti

£20 more, but won't post as I feel its not an amazing deal, but in case anyone missed this and wants a 16gb card for work, with a code ~£390:

Hmm this could be worth the extra 50 quid over the 6750 xt roughly similar performance but massive power usage difference.

    I need triple fans card.
    Gkains's avatar
Don't be such a big fan!

Don't think this is the case here but on some models, the triple fan version don't always perform better. Two big fan better than three mediums, perhaps?

How is this compared to rtx 3060 12gb?
    Smoggy1970's avatar
    Better.

Thanks - have ordered the RTX4070 as the price is slightly more sane with the 15% discount (and I should get another 12% off with Complete Savings

As NVIDIA struggles to keep up demand for the H100, there are questions on whether they should spread themselves thin in the gaming sector for small margins. Their CEO did say they’ll not abandon gaming. I guess he’ll keep his promise and also appease shareholders by restricting NVIDIA to a few flagship gaming cards, i.e x80 and x90. The mid to low end of the market will be catered by Intel and the company which Always Makes Duds.
    ollyprice87's avatar
Why on earth would they leave a market where they have at least a 50% market share ?
  20. Gkains's avatar
Now if only Nvidia offered decent VRAM on cards with a bit more grunt. This is a bit like the new version of the 12GB 3060 while the like of the 3070 or the true 3060 Ti successor are limited in VRAM.

Planned obsolescence? Nah, the knights in green armour would never do that!

I know right, imagine what attention a 4070 with 12 GB would get!

Is this worth the extra over the 3060 12GB for learning about AI (SDXL, LLMs etc)?
    Mystogan's avatar
Yes it is, the more VRAM the better. Plus, the 4000-series is more energy efficient so you're saving money there as well.

At £500 it definitely was not worth the price for the 16GB version, but nearing £350 it is an acceptable price for AI learning, and for gaming it is okay as well because you get DLSS3.
