Mine broke within one hour of use.

I contacted Black+Decker and they told me this model is not in warranty with them because it’s a generic product by Amazon with a license to use their logo. The box it comes in does show the real brand.

Amazon had been pretty rough and told me to figure out repackaging it myself (imagine a massive bubble wrap).

Unrelated but the package got lost too so I had to get it on insurance. Very frustrating experience.

I bought 2 of these last year after the heat wave and used them over this summer and they've been faultless.

They are a bit noisy as all portable units are but they get down to the required temperature very quickly.

They were used most days over the summer and I didn't have to empty the water tanks once

I wish people who post or comment on these Air Con deals would inform us as to whether they can be re-gassed. As so many of these cheap air con's are single use items. Use them until the gas goes then scrap them and put them into landfill!
I'm looking for an affordable air con unit that can be re-gassed. So any ideas if this can be?
    Russ555's avatar
They are a closed loop, if the "gas goes" it has a leak and needs reparing anyway. Regassing AC is mostly a con.

I had this and it stopped working just outside of warranty. Black and Decker don’t actually make this item, they just lend the brand name to it. Impossible to fix and had to bin it. Lots of people had the same issue.

ordered. £200 for a 12000 btu. cant go wrong.
    Urzrkymn's avatar
Just round it to the nearest £100 and you can get it for £200 too.

"The large 1.5L water tray is designed to extract up to 40 litres of unwanted moisture per day, with a self-evaporating system to empty collected water"

But if it evaporates itself surely its putting the moisture back?

Guessing it vents it into the exhaust, not back into the room.

Bought this a month ago for £100 more. The weather was starting to turn colder then but my intention was to use it next year and figured now would be a good time to buy one off- peak at a reduced cost. Since I wasn’t going to use it for 6-7 months I decided to try it out, put the Velcro onto the window and put the hose out through the fabric hole. In the space of an hour it had reduced the temperature of the room by 3 degrees - too chilly for me so I turned it off and put it away. You can see the dip in temperature when it was running below.51233886-sf0QL.jpg

Hello , is this ac works only with hose out?

And what kind of thermometer you using?

I don't personally know this model but having been through a few different portable AC units over the years I would say there is a massive difference in noise levels between units and take the manufacturers db figures with a pinch of salt.

I've settled on the AEG AXP26U559HW, it's as quite a unit as I have been able to find in real life but even if shopping around it'll be around £400 (can get it sometimes with offer codes / cashback to around this level)

I have been told that the Delonghi silent range is also good for noise.

I would also say in my experience do not consider refurb AC units, they always seem to be extremely noise, perhaps due to not being able to isolate vibrations having taken the unit apart and put it back together again.

I've had this model for about a year now paid £450 for it, it's quite loud to have on while sleeping unless you can tolerate the noise it does cool my room down well which is a mid sized bedroom however I have lots of electrical equipment in there which is on 24/7 pumping out lots of heat even during the winter months the room is hot so I imagine it could cool larger rooms also.
I feel like I've had my monies worth at £450 it's saved me from the 30+ temperatures of my tropical bedroom many times so this is a great price, heat added! (then removed if you grab one of these)

    Why would you buy it?

If you can't afford proper a/c invest in a good Meaco fan
    SpeedbirdB777's avatar
Because I don’t want to have a permanent retrofit installation that gets used for a couple of weeks per year and doesn’t represent particularly good value for money. A Meaco can just moves air. Trust that answers your question.

Looking to buy a AC unit as people say October is the best time to buy. Anyone with experience Is this a good unit? Had a quick glance at reviews - All Portable AC is noisy so not bothered about that, and I will buy a separate window kit.
    Aznar's avatar
    Consider split AC.
  12. Benji.CC's avatar
Does this work well as a dehumidifier? We need to replace a broken and excellent Meaco and it would kill two birds we with one stone if we can get an okayish AC at the same time for hot summer nights in the kid's room. If it's a bit naff at both though I'll give it a miss
    c135's avatar
it works but not so well; you need to have the hose out of the window. and during winter time you get the cold air outside back in your room with the moisture... you are better of buying a specialised dehumidifier that doesn't need to push the air out of the room

I've had this for a couple of years for the loft room, excellent cools the room down to a fridge. Excellent product thumbs up from me.

I have the 10k model. Works well, just a bit noisy. Paid significantly more than this, though, so this is a major bargain.
  15. Pink100's avatar
We have the 10k model and have zero complaints. Peaceful nights sleeps during the heatwaves for the family are well worth the price to us.

3 in 1 is a bit of a stretch no? Air conditioning and cooling. Why not make it 5 in 1? Temperature lowering and drying too.
    CaptainKremmen's avatar
It doesn't do heating- thats where you get the 5 in 1 . Heating, Cooling, Dehumidification, fan and... noise?
  22. Idntkno's avatar
    Thanks op, ordered

Ordered! Thanks. Was waiting for this exact model to drop in price
  24. Killer_Klient's avatar
Very good price, I bought a 12,000 btu for £300 a few months ago and that was considered cheap then. Only difference is mine has a heat pump too, but I'd much rather have had this deal.
    indigo2004's avatar
    whats a heat pump?
  25. Lloydinio's avatar
I have a black and decker fan which isn’t very good. Is this going to be of similar quality?
    Gushiggins's avatar
Impossible to say, they don't always make their own stuff, a lot of it rebranded. I don't think there is any consistency - I feel like its mostly lower to middle level quality and some rubbish but none of it is amazing. Costco do some weird stuff that is branded B&D. The brand seems more popular in America than here these days. Just my opinion and observations. I may be way off the mark.

If you want something decent buy a Toshiba or Mitsubishi.

I have a 10k BTU Meaco portable air con and a separate Meaco 20l Dehumidifier with a 4.5l tank and 5 years warranty. I am not sure if a all in one device will do the same efficiency to be honest
  32. 777jrg_'s avatar
Funny how all these air-conditioning units photos never show the vent thingie that need to go on a window
