I set it up and tested it tonight. In short it works well for me.

Longer version - I live in a Victorian semi with a bit of a weird lay out - lots of stairs and split level floors. A Virgin router probably not set up in the best position in one corner of the house. I got close to advertised speeds 54 mbps in the room of the router, the one next to it and the bedroom directly above. In the kitchen, bathroom, my son's bedroom and the attic room, basically the back of the house, it wasn't great. I've tried a Netgear repeater that creates a 2nd network but it was more hassle than it's worth when your phone couldn't decide which network to use.

Set up of these isn't mega easy, the app won't let you log in as the 1* reviews on the app store say. You link it to your existing router, then disconnect, put the router in modem mode then turn it all off and put it back together and turn on, but it took a bit of digging to figure it out as the supplied instructions aren't great (e.g. community.virginmedia.com/t5/…273).

Once it was set up I used a wifi strength app to find areas closer to the dead spots with 80+% connection and a plug to use. I think I could probably improve the location a bit but it would be in my son's bedroom and he's asleep!

Using the WiFi strength app and a speed test on my phone before and after speeds in selected locations are:

Attic room before 18% signal, 7.6mbps download, 1.6 upload, after 76% signal, 11.3 mbps download, 5 upload

Spare room before 40% signal, 2,4 mbps download, 2.9 upload, after 96% signal, 10.5 mbps download, 4.9 upload

Bathroom before 44% signal, 5 mbps download, 2 upload, after 85% signal, 12.4 mbps download, 4.9 upload

Kitchen before 44% signal, 23mbps download, 4.7 upload, after 98% signal, 53 mbps download, 5 upload. I was surprised by that one as it's as fast as I get next to the main router and is what I pay for.

I would say it's definitely worth £20 in my scenario, I was going to spend £80+ on one until I saw this. I'd have bought another one if it was still in stock in my local store but instead of driving 20 miles I've bought a 2 pack from Mymemory for £18 (sign up and you get a 5% discount which almost pays for the postage). The reason being to try to get some signal in the garden, if it's not working I'll give it to my parents.

For all who want to know about this it uses wifi 5 technology 2 technologys old now as wifi6 cam after it and now the very pricey wifi 6e. Most houses will be fine with this product even though its wifi 5, when you get internet from your supplier its usually wifi 5 and thats been good for ppl for ages. If you are concerned you can always get the wifi 6 version even though more pricier amazon.co.uk/gp/…QH/
If you wanna look at your own products to compare AC is wifi 5 AX is wifi 6 on the codes so this is AC1200 meaning its wifi 5 the number 1200 (1200 megabits) is max theoretical speed but that is both the 2.4ghhz network and the 5ghz speeds combined so max speed usually about 800megabits from the base and going down from there. The faster it is the stronger the signal generally. But if your devices in your home dont even support wifi 6 then this is a bargain. (most mobile phones in past 2-3 years support wifi 6).

Hope this helps somebody as i been researching all this myself lately and went for the ax3000 from strong. Also note if the ax3000 not great for you, you can always return as its amazon.

You should set up a different network or you could call it the same as your current router but in this case turn off the WiFi for your current isp router. You plug the ethernet cable from your current router to one of the nodes. Then place the others accordingly where it overlaps with full strength but that way it will extend the signal out

Do they work with Gateway Eero pro 6?
    gonchong's avatar
I don’t have this brand, but I have a different mesh network running from my Eero WiFi6 router with perfect connection

[EDIT] Picked them up today and installed this evening. I'm only using two of the three and i have full strength signal absolutely everywhere around the house.

The setup was really easy for me (on BT). Just connect one box to the BT router. Then connect the second box by pressing the one and only button on the box's once. They find and connect to each other.

The only part that took a little work was getting the app to connect at all. It simply didn't want to. Then after about 10 minutes i opened it again and everything was connected and working fine. It's a nice app TBH. Lots of features like assigning guest wifi, changing security etc etc.

Before setup my Firestick was only registering 6.02Mbps (this is a 500Mbps connection). Afterwards, it's gone up to 189Mbps.

I highly doubt i'd find anything else near this price that works this well. (edited)

Weak security and very weak signal. There just 2 antennas which makes the system not reliable. Not worth any penny….

Stick a few buzz words on the packaging and people will buy anything, its also not as good of a deal as it seems, they are claiming its £50 off down from £69.99, but It's regularly available for £35 from several retailers.

The build quality looks terrible on them and reviews are low, I'd stick to a better brand like Linksys, Netgear or Ubiquiti for network gear, as I always say buy nice or buy twice.
  8. ytppyv80's avatar
I presume that this is a China brand. Of late I've become careful about buying China tec as opposed to tech made in China ( like an iPhone), especially a router.
  9. Billym's avatar
Tested today and it is amazing at the moment , at least better than use the extender and router provided by ISP. £20 is value for money 💰
  10. Bbqueue's avatar
So far, so good. I'd like to be able to change the channels as I've 2 neighbours both using channel 1. I'd also like to separate the 2.5ghz and 5ghz.

Does anyone know if there's a way to get deeper into the settings than the basic UI shows? Or could you suggest a suitable forum to look through or post on?
    Billym's avatar
You login to webpages one, then go to WiFI in left hand side, 5G WLAN or 2.4 G Wlan

The question is, how strong is strong enough to qualify as a strong WiFi signal :/
    cibarious's avatar
Totally agree, it is a bit like how hot does a Chilli have to be to be rated as hot??

I expect these to be anything but strong. As somebody that used to install commercial systems there was a reason you didn’t use cheap equipment.
    YoYoMountain's avatar
For £20, if it provides a more stable connection throughout my parents' house compared to their Sky broadband router (and if Tommeke's review is anything to go by then it likely will) then it's a win-win situation from their POV.

That aside, as a networking professional, what do you recommend to minimise blackspots and slow speeds at home?
  14. Whirly's avatar
Just picked this up in store - 3 pack for £19.99. I was about to post it before I saw this thread.

It's a Christmas present for a relative so it won't be opened until then but I'd love to hear about setup & reliability from anyone who gets one.

Poor reviews on Amazon - and they even failed to shill it with Vine "reviews": amazon.co.uk/240…h=1

From real lived experience, if you want cheap (but really good/rock solid) AND remotely manageable in the app - for when you install it at your parents place (and then instantly become 24/7 technical support) look at Mercursys. Currently (see other sellers) you can have these for £34.99: amazon.co.uk/Mer…h=1 or £49.99 for a three pack: amazon.co.uk/Mer…F4P

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have internet faster than 100mbs, get Mesh extenders that have 1Gb ethernet ports - these (Model H30) have that .
    RoosterUK's avatar
Mercursys H30 have 10/100 ethernet ports.
It's the H30G & H50 models that have Gigabit ports which aren't available at the prices you mention.

These devices deliver a STRONG signal across all the upper 27 rooms in our home. Are you able to add more than 3 to reach the mid and ground floors?
    pw5pw5's avatar
You are indeed. They comfortably cover all 28 of our attic rooms so should be adequate for your humble abode.

Likely a mis-price, even if AC wifi is a bit old-hat now.

£25 for 2 on Amazon... or was until they put it up to £35 for the sales apparently. 🤷‍♀️

But yeah it's WiFi 5 and a random brand, no investment.

    Hmm, supposedly 69.99 before sale.
  23. MARK2000's avatar
Silly question maybe but do these work with any WiFi network provider? I ask because I have BT version on BT network but I'm considering changing to Virgin
    Zaksdeals's avatar
    Author
Yeah these will work fine as they are not internet provider specific, just plug into any router you have.
  24. Zaksdeals's avatar
    Author
As long as the Gateway Eero pro 6 has a network port, these can then be plugged into it and configured via the APP.
  25. jimmyt11's avatar
If these are three units can I use one at home and one at my parents house? Or does they need to be used all together?
    Zaksdeals's avatar
    Author
All units are the same no specific master/client so assume these would work fine for both you and your parents.
  26. Deal_searcher's avatar
Heat added as it is a mesh system for a bargain price. Even if range is not good you can put them closer together and it will be enough for small to medium sized houses
    j0sentina's avatar
they lost connection frequently and also while connected wont respond

If you get a chance, could you post with how they seem to be working? Especially, if you've checked the speeds before you connect and then after

Purchased this before from Amazon was really bad quality.. signal kept dropping or not link at all. Returned.

..to collect your order, we'll need the last four digits of your payment/gift card or your flexible credit reference number.
We'll also need your car registration number.

I was a bit puzzled by this request when I ordered a TV from Currys. I collected it yesterday but I never had to provide this to them after all.

If I had to, I probably would have made one up. NA14...

I placed another order for home delivery (£3.99 delivery), this seems to have went through as further confirmation email received.

I have a weak WiFi signal that struggles to reach outside to the garage and a stick up Ring cam. I was thinking about just getting a TP Link booster for the kitchen that's the closest room but would this be a better option? Don't know much about mesh systems.
    Searching4deals1234's avatar
No this won’t be better and no don’t use a WiFi booster ether. Invest in a proper mesh system that ain’t £20. Outside is always tricky due to conditions at the time but you’ve more chance with a more effective system then this will ever be. The fact this is 600+ degrees sums up the way this site works.

Do all these 3 have ethernet ports too? Thanks
    Zaksdeals's avatar

Yeah they do, on the master the wan/lan is used to connect to your main router so 2 free ethernet ports on that unit. 3 x ethernet ports on the other 2 units.
