Building a PC, what CPU should I be looking at?

Looking to build my first PC in about 20 years so would appreciate any advice on what CPU I should be looking at.

The pc will be used for video capture and editing so needs to have two pcie slots -one for the GPU and one for my Blackmagic video capture card. Gaming is a nice to have though I imagine a mid range PC will probably be able to play some games with reasonable performance.

My budget is modest, circa 500-600 but I already have a GPU. I assume I could put a sufficient cooler on the CPU and maybe add additional fans somewhere down the line to bring down the initial outlay? There seems to be a good level of PC knowledge on here so if anyone could help me out and steer me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it

this is a brilliant website, people post their builds and other people comment on it/rate it etc, its a great way to get an idea of builds and budget

I guess it depends on what GPU you have - will the CPU be the bottle neck regardless of which one you choose?

Are some CPUs better for video editing rather than gaming or are they generally all good all-rounders?

It depends on the OS & software - some applications benefit from multi-threaded CPUs.
The latest i9 CPU is considered the best for video editing.

    Assume no OC
For video editing, you generally looking at Ryzen 7 or i7, but the budget not allow...

Hi, you seem to know a lot about pc parts. I have a pc that I bought 2nd hand, and I have upgraded most part of it, but the CPU. I'm not sure whether my motherboard (Gigabyte Z87x-SLI) will be compatible with latest Intel cpu or amd.

I'm trying to find out from the Internet but I can't find the answer, probably the mobo it's too old, or I don't know the right question to search.

My gpu is rtx 4070, current processor i7-4770k Haswell. It doesn't even support window 11 . Can you please help on finding the right cpu to optimise my build? Or tell me how to search this on Google?

    Many thanks
