What you will need before startingVPN with Indian Server.

New or lapsed existing Spotify account

What you will need before starting Step 1: Cancel your existing premium subscription to Spotify and wait for the current billing period to end, or create a free account if you don't have one

Step 2: Purchase 1 x 12 Month Indian Spotify Premium Gift card and 1 x 6 Month Indian Spotify Premium Gift card. amazon.in/Spotify-Premium-Month-Subscription-Gift/dp/B0C853FHX3?th=1 - People have reported it can take a few hours to be emailed and you need to specify an Indian address on purchase.

Other links -
amazon.in/Spo…1_4

amazon.in/Spo…8-8

Note: Price quoted in title is based on current total price of the two gift cards linked here, however the price may vary depending on where you purchase it.

Step 3: Turn on your VPN and set location to Indian. Note: Many VPN providers do not have an Indian server.

Step 4: While VPN is activated, go to your 'account' here (spotify.com/eg-en/account/overview/)(spotify.com) and click 'Edit Profile', an option to set your country to 'Indian' should appear (this option is greyed out if you have still have an active premium subscription). If it does not appear, check your VPN is activated correctly. Save your changes. This will now let you redeem Indian gift card

Step 5: Click Redeem (spotify.com/eg-en/redeem/)(spotify.com) and paste your gift card codes that you previously purchased in Step 2. You will see that the confirmation message will mention '12 Months Premium' and '6 Months Premium' being redeemed. Once you have redeemed both codes, here (spotify.com/eg-en/account/subscription/receipt/)(spotify.com). If you attempt to redeem more than 18 months, you will get an error stating that you cannot redeem more than 18 months of premium in advance.

Note: Stop here if you wish to keep your account as an Individual account. If you wish to convert your 18 Months Premium to c days of Duo (don't use duo as it's more expensive than two singles) or c150 days of Family, continue to Step 6. If you stop here your account will remain an "Indian" account.

Step 6: Go to "Account Overview" (spotify.com/eg-en/account/overview/)(spotify.com) and click on "Your Plan" (spotify.com/eg-en/account/manage-your-plan/)(spotify.com). Now click "Subscribe" at the bottom. You will now see "Your Plan" with IR119 / month and the next billing date will be 18 months from now. Beneath the summary, you'll see a payment gateway show up with some Indian payment options. Look beneath them and you will see "Change country" in the footer. Click on it and select United Kingdom. You will now see £10.99 per month and the next billing date has been reduced to ~12 months from now. This is due to some sort of conversion rate between countries. Do not proceed yet.

Step 7: At the top, click "Change Plan". On the next page, click on Premium Duo or Premium Family. Confirm that the new billing date is approximately 210 days from now (for duo) or 5 months (150 days) for Family.

Step 8: Choose PayPal as the payment method and follow the prompts to finalise. Your PayPal won't be charged until the date stated in the summary.

Step 9: After confirming, your account will be United Kingdom, so choose your normal United Kingdom address for the Premium Duo/Family as you normally would, and tell your "family" members to enter the same address.
VPN with Indian Server: ExpressVPN, CyberGhost or Surfshark (or another if I am not aware). CyberGhost has a 7-day free trial.New or lapsed existing Spotify account (can be United Kingdom)

    Helpful tip.

I am an Indian born living in the UK. I use a Spotify India account here via UPI(Unified payment interface.. Only available in India for Indians). Just now, I tried to top up using the Amazon gift card, which allowed me to do so. I bought the 12-month individual membership from the AZ IN link above and without VPN, I redeemed the card to my account(No VPN) and the sub-expiry date increased by one year.

So, if you use a solo membership, you can leave it to India and top up using a gift card next time.

Also, you will be recommended lots of Indian music at the start but once you use it for a couple of days, They will all disappear. Spotify AI DJ is not available in India yet. If you need that feature, follow the steps above to convert the account to the UK. (edited)

How good is their indian songs library - movie songs and other independent albums?

Any chance anyone has a list of streaming services which are cheaper in India but can be accessed via UK (as long as the payment can done via Indian accounts)
    vkctata's avatar
Spotify, Mubi, Netflix(Pakistan and Turkey are cheaper), Apple Music, YT Premium, Disney Hotstar(VPN required), Jio Cinema(VPN required), Apple TV+, F1 TV(Cheapest in the world, VPN required). I will add more if I can think of any. With cricket and football, Indian services stream at a far higher bit rate than Now TV and Sky. Saying that watching sports on Indian TV is like watching ads with a bit of sport in between.

Spotify can be far cheaper than what's quoted above if you have a student ID (.ac account, country doesn't matter). It doesn't work with unidays.

To get an Indian VPN, just follow YT tutorials on how to set up OpenVPN with AWS. It's free for 2 connections and 250mbps download. I use my India Apple ID on my Apple TV as a second account, it allows me to install apps from India. There are some paid VPN wrapper apps for OpenVPN connections on ATV and I stream all the sports from Indian services.

P.S. If you are planning to travel to India, Just sign up for all the services while you are there(Take a Jio sim card with all the addon subs, Pay for a year). People are very helpful, So, just ask them for a UPI account for payment and pay them in cash.

This is what I did for 12 months at £11.66 if it helps:

    1. Buy an "Annual standard e-giftcard" from Amazon India: amazon.in/Spo…1_4

It is NOT the gift card in the OP. Thanks to for highlighting this gift card option on page 1 of the thread and to the other user replies who confined it worked for them.

It doesn't need an India address and the code came through by e-mail almost instantly. Don't need VPN on, just login with UK Amazon account.

    2. Turn on VPN. I used Free Hola VPN Extension for Chrome.

    3. Login to Spotify account. Change country to India and then redeem the code, as per OP's instructions.

About an hour later I got a mail from Spotify to say change password due to suspicious activity (as have a few others, see earlier posts).

No issues so far playing music without VPN on - I have Spotify linked to my Amazon Alexa. (edited)

    Followed these steps.. works great..thanks.

Now I'm guessing I can just switch off VPN then amend country back to UK in order to get UK content displayed?

Its telling me that it can't be delivered to the UK??how do I get around this please?

I went online, found an address in Delhi to a post office, entered that and presto. Use your noggin son, it's the 21st century.

Cyberghost. Get the app, agree to subscribe for a year and you get 3 days free trial. Just remember to cancel before you get charged for the year.

    Many Thanks.
Got codes within 15mins last night and have just applied them to my old Spotify account. It does say you won't be able to redeem any more vouchers each time so I put the 12m one in first just to be safe, but both were added. Hopefully this will be be available in September NEXT YEAR when I need to renew.
Used Nord and Revolut virtual card on the Amazon.in site.

    I'm English but..

So how many Indian languages are there? While India has 22 separate official languages , it is home to a total of 121 languages and 270 mother tongues.

Can you change region in Spotify from India to UK once you have purchased thanks

Do you buy gift cards on Amazon India for the steaming services cheers (edited)
    nitro228's avatar
Yes, I've just done that. 18 months of Spotify India turns into 8 months of UK. So it's £18 for 8 months once converted back to a UK account
  11. Penguino10's avatar
Easier to do the Indian Google store / Google pay method with Revolut. £1.14 a month for individual premium.

For anyone having trouble redeeming the gift card (click redeem and nothing happens) - flick the VPN off at that point, reload the page, pick an Indian state from the menu on the redeem page that now appears with the VPN turned off, enter and redeem then press redeem again to confirm.

    Thanks OP.

I think I’ve followed each of the steps as stated and having added the codes I could see the next payt date 18 months, however having followed the guidance and set up my country as UK and amended payment method to Paypal my next payment date is now 21/09/204.

£18 for 9 months Spotify Premium is still a good deal but wonder if I’ve missed a step and messed up the 18mnths?
    barnesy99's avatar
If you change your country back from India to the UK after redeeming the codes, you lose half your subscription length. You would have needed to keep your country as India to have 18 months.
  15. katek's avatar
Worked a treat thank you! Quick question though. If I change my location back to uk will it still be ok?
    PlanetG's avatar
Others have been able to do so. The subscription period will go down though. Think it goes down by 50% or so.

    Hi guys
When I try and buy the voucher I’m getting asked for an Indian mobile number.
Does anyone have a work around ?
    meer-cha's avatar
I put a random phone number from randomgenerate.io/ran…tor
use just the part after the dash

they won't contact or do anything with it, it would only be used in case of physical delivery of goods

Been doing this for a while, met a chap from India on Clash of Clans, he's been sorting my Spotify (family account) and Apple TV+ from India for me. Legend 💪🏻

Apple TV+ is £11 for whole year. FYI

How did you guys create an Indian amazon account without phone number? Or did you use your uk account?
    taterhash's avatar
You can just use your UK account but add a new delivery address based in India. I used a hospital in Mumbai...
  19. Marcus_72's avatar
Just makes you think that we are getting ripped off in the UK when they offer it for £1 a month!!!
    Tornado_Gale's avatar
As I mentioned in a previous post. This isn't cheap for people in India. The minimum wage in UK is by far more than India

IND INR 178 - Spotify INR 119 monthly cost
UK over 21 from June £11.44 - £9.99 Spotify monthly cost
  20. KingOfSpades's avatar
How can you purchase Spotify on Amazon India with UK card?
    vkctata's avatar
YES! You can also try Audible and Kindle Unlimited. Prime Video also works if you get a 15 GBP/1499 INR per year India Prime sub.

Due to Indian central bank regulations, Most online retailers are changing digital purchases to Indian registered cards and UPI. I used to pay for YouTube premium with my Starling card in India in INR but once the card expired, it did not allow me to add a non-Indian registered card.
  21. m4rts's avatar
Has anyone tried adding 18 months of subscription changing to family plan and then adding another 12 months?
    jaykaykay's avatar
Don't change to Family as it's not reversible step. To change to family you need to change to UK and then change to family. Neither is reversible so you will be stuck on UK family plan and will need to pay full price next time
  22. ht96's avatar
Just redeemed. New UK account. Download free Urban VPN, set to India (had to do this twice, first time it connected to Aus for some reason). Login an incognito window. Change Profile to India. Redeem 12M. Redeem 6m. Turn off VPN. Login everywhere.

    jp3434's avatar
Yes, I had the same after logging in to an existing Spotify account via India VPN
  30. PurpleRain21's avatar
Why does it say dispatching with delivery tomorrow on Amazon if it is email delivery? Or is it just me?
    jp3434's avatar
I had the same dispatch message. Check your junk mail for code delivery message. The code will be sent via Amazon messaging.
  31. PapasMagic's avatar
What if we don't change the country after the purchase?
My Spotify app is showing 18 months and works fine.
    nitro228's avatar
You don't need to change back. It will work fine for 18 months. The only thing you won't get is audiobooks and some of the new AI playlist features.
  32. alexwall21's avatar
Thanks OP and to comments, its worked for me which is perfect! I used Hola VPN extension on chrome for free (to VPN for india) and followed your step by steps, thanks for writing up OP!

Also side note, i had the deliver tomorrow thing on amazon and it was delivered to my junk email around 1 hour after buying. I found a fake indian address / phone number for delivery details. (edited)

Is it simple to change Spotify region? Was on 3rd party purchased indian family before got fed up of the ‘’ local ‘’ recommendations
    dfunked's avatar
It's all in the post. You could in theory carry on to step 6, but not change the plan type. You'd be back on an individual UK account but with approx 12 months instead of 18. (edited)

Since January 2023, I've subscribed to YouTube Premium + Music at 1.99 (using an Indian VPN). It's far superior to Spotify, offers smoother YouTube streaming, and the added benefit of four accounts for sharing with friends and family.

If I cancel my current membership then use this method after it has lapsed, will it keep all my current playlists?
    PlanetG's avatar
Yes it will keep your playlists
  39. adrianooo's avatar
At first my membership was showing as valid until 31.12.2024 and now after changing location to UK it's only showing is valid until 14/06/2024 and at the minute when I click on available plans nothing comes up, any idea how to fix this? Thanks
    NO1FAN's avatar
By changing the location back to the UK you have halved your membership. There is no way to change that now
  40. rich_'s avatar
Could someone please explain how to change my country back to UK instead of India? My app doesn't have an option and all recommendations are Indian music which isn't really my thing.
    Bigwato's avatar
If you change it back to UK, you lose half the membership. The Indian music options will change once you start listening to your music
