Can someone please tell me how does this compare in performance with the previous basic model at £299 when it was discontinued? I can only see USB-C as an advantage...

I switched from the previous 9th gen to this.

In terms of performance/speed I didn’t really notice much difference. The 9th gen is still fast enough for most people.

The advantages of this one for me are
    - usb c.
    - a bigger and better screen (although the 9th gen is still ok)
    - the front facing camera is much better quality and sits in the middle of the iPad so when you are on Zoom calls you don’t look like you are looking off camera
    - no more large bezels
    - Touch ID is better in my opinion

Still think the iPad 9th gen is great for most people but I don’t regret getting the 10th gen.

Juts make sure 64gb is enough for you. Personally I went for the 128gb.

    Hope this helps. (edited)

The lack of 120Hz refresh will be jarring on a screen this large to anyone that is used to it (edited)

i switch from a 60Hz huawei mate 20x to a 120Hz nubia z60 ultra constantly, and never experience any jarring

Remember these are $450 in US and £499 in UK. They launched when the £ was much weaker than now.
Thus when the new ones launch in a few months, prices for the new ones and therefore the old ones should be better.
    Not certain but likely.

Thanks op, Ordered … I bought 9th Gen last week for £319 as a gift but we haven’t opened it yet. That will be going back so that I can keep this one.

The only thing striking about the display is the visible air gap between the display and the glass. You can feel the glass bend when you press it.
